She wasn't any better in the show either, she always looked bored and super pissed off. I understand the actress is deaf and there is only so much she can do, but just look at the actress who played Makkari in Eternals (Lauren Ridloff), she lights up the scene whenever she is present. If they wanted to make a show about a deaf character, they should have picked her.

Did anybody noticed that they did with Echo the same thing they did with Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi? Completely change their powers to tie-in with some magical extradimensional ancestors that also happen to have ties with their culture

Well, Ms. Marvel change was acceptable, she was part of a superhero family without having nothing to do with them or even sharing their powers, being a mix of everything without sense, like being an inhuman somehow. All of the members of the Captain Marvel family use cosmic energy, and if i remember right the OG Mar Vell used the negabands to materialized things with energy. So changing the dumb mr fantastic copy powers to an actual related ability sound like an improvement to me, but i never liked the original muslim Ms. Marvel, i prefered the OG Carol Danvers Miss Marvel, so that´s probably my bias.

@@mytotim8978 For understanding that you have to read the Infinity and Inhumanity storylines, it was revealed that there were many ordinary humans descendants of inhumans with dormant inhuman cells, but they didn't know because they were never exposed to the terrigen mists and in Infinity these got released all over the world and those who were inhumans without knowing got exposed and developed their powers. This story was adapted more or less in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, the Avengers game and the animated show, because it was a time when Marvel was trying to make the Inhumans the new mutants because they didn't have the cinematic rights (yeah I know, very stupid) But yeah, her powers in the comics do look stupid, I just think that origin is a lot better, because those actually have decent writing unlike the show

The comic version of her looks so awesome. Why does she look so plain in the show?

In their quest to make her a beacon of unmatchable strength, they actually neutered her and stripped her of everything that makes her appealing. They could have copypasted her directly from the comic and gotten paid. Instead, they made her a joke. Disney will never understand that not only are they as racially insensitive as they have always been the last century, they have managed to become even worse.

We were really spoiled with the Netflix run of these shows.

Except for Jessica Jones, can't remember any other superheros f'ing each other's brains out in scenes. Woke fantasy/narrative being pushed, them being a thing I have no problem with just pushing an uncomfortable sex scene to sit through.

It's not even that Echo got powers, it's about how her sister and her grandmother suddenly get powers as well. So what, Maya and her family have an Avatar State to call on their past lives? It's so cringe that it's laughable. Not every character needs to have powers. The ONLY redeeming quality of this show is that end credits scene of Kingpin getting the idea to run for mayor of New York. Devil's Reign is such an amazing arc in the comics, and if they do it right, we could get a street-level Infinity War/Endgame event that would be amazing. But considering it's the MCU... I feel like they're going to screw it up.

The thing that really pisses me off is that Marvel comics is full of interesting characters with interesting powers and backstories that have incredible things like magic, mutant powers, cyborgs, primordial beings and crazy science fiction technology. They have boundless levels of imagination to make a character, but instead of looking at the amazing fictional elements, but what does the director of Echo do? Throws away her fictional powers and tries to make powers based on "traditional" historical origins. It's so stupid that it's embarrassing. And of course the director would twist Grace Randolph's question, which was probably based on the nonexistent importance of either character in a narrative sense, to blunting it and making it a race issue. Does Echo have anything to atone for? Does she stand up for the little guy? Does she put herself in harms way to protect those that can't protect themselves? Nope, it's just a Kumbaya session of embracing your heritage. Great. Who's going to stop Kingpin or any of the mafia in the MCU from pushing drugs to kids or saving people from horrible corrupt cops or landlords? Who is standing up for the people and not just her people. Daredevil. I am legitimately sorry that you had to endure this show and hope you get to play some Yakuza to dull the pain.

Anyone capable of physically imitating an opponent's moves would be devastating. In real life, but even more so in the comic book world. These writers have no imagination.

After episode 1 I was like “oh so this will actually be good” then it drove straight off a cliff into Native American, bipoc, handicapable pandering.

You always heard of Devery and Alaqua. You hear their voices in your sleep at night; hard to resist temptation! Now all these strange thoughts come over you... and now you can't get over them! No, you just can't get over theeem, ooooh!

I remember seeing Kingpin in Daredevil for the first time, hammering someones head between the car doors. He was a force to be reckoned with and they kept that up that entire season. He was scary and calculating. I'm so sad they neutered him ...

They actually took one of Black Panthers’ abilities and gave it to her. They never used it in the MCU but in the comics he can call upon the abilities or wisdom of previous Panthers

I hear most people blaming the fact that Echo's facial expression hardly changes on Alaqua Cox's lack of acting experience, but I think it was deliberate. I believe the show runners chose to perpetuate the stereotype of the stoic Native American because they segregate people according to group labels and see people as the stereotypes that fit those labels.

I enjoyed WandaVision, Spider-Man No Way Home and Loki quite a lot but it’s hard to recommend anything MCU when we know it’s not going anywhere interesting. Phase 4 is longer than 1-3 combined and it only has a couple legit bangers. You did the right thing checking out and I will be until Deadpool 3 with my fingers crossed.

@@jasonmaclean719 I completely agree about Multiverse of Madness that movie was absolutely trash. I think No Way Home is a pretty solid movie in general though. It’s not perfect, Ned’s role is very “convenient” to the plot but it’s easy for me to look past it with everything the movie does right. The reason I say it’s a good movie and not just nostalgic reasons, is that the movie has a very strong character arc. They managed to strike the perfect balance between giving long term Spider-Man fans fan service, and wrapping up the MCU Spider-Man trilogy. It also ends in a way that’s very exciting for people who don’t like MCU Spider-Man because it seems he finally gets to be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

It's actually impressive how inept Disney is. They are insanely out of touch and don't know what they're doing. Feige is an idiot, and hiring practices have filled their ranks with talentless hacks who don't respect the source material. They took a character with a very powerful ability and made it into a hokey trope dealing with her native ancestors. And they're also continuing with the girl power angle which was groan-worthy back in Endgame and hasn't gotten any better in the years since. Disney needs a hard intervention. Nelson Peltz, Ike Perlmutter, Elon Musk, I don't care. All of them should collaborate to get smart people on the board. It would at least be a good start.

Pleading with everyone in the comments to ONLY let reviewtubers watch garbage that Disney puts out! We need Disney to go bankrupt as quick as possible and sell off those properties we need back

I’d never heard of Echo before- so for new people like me, it would have been epic to not even realise fully that she was deaf until one final scene of an episode. Like in The Book of Eli. I have no problem with having a show with an actor that doesn’t have any experience in acting, take Jimm Carrey, Johnny Deep, Tom Cruise, and Cameron Diaz for example. They didn’t have acting school or any special course, but have that talent and motivation to inspire emotions in all of us. Here, there's only a girl incapable of any emotions that acts like she's the boss of everything.

Wait how is she a Mary sue ? She trained her whole life and had struggles. While the show is horrible I wouldn’t call her a marry sue.

This series was an anti binge, instead of wanting to see the next episode at the end of the one i'm watching, every single one felt like an eternity.

I remember RDJ saying, back in the good times of the MCU, that the movies worked because they respected the characters original background and personnalities. This is over for years now, they changed so much so many characters, that they don't even look like in the comics. I knew nothing about Echo but indeed, this could have been just as good as Daredevil or Jessica Jones, no wonder says that it's crap. Thanks for your video, subscribed, keep up the good work 😉

Even in the prequel novel to the insomniac Spiderman games, Fisk knows Echo, and when her and Spiderman meet, she can’t read his lips. So she TELLS HIM she can’t. Not with ASL, she literally speaks to Spiderman saying she can’t hear him. That seems much better than what they did in this show.

I am Native and find this portrayal of Native life to be sad and the worst form of cultural mockery. This is the t.v. version of black face for the Native cultures.

I find it interesting that in Iron Man three they completely changed the character of the Mandarin because they felt the canon version was too much of a stereotype but for Echo her only traits were stereotypes@@nameless1n677

Oh, Disney already ruined King Pin in Hawkeye. I had absolutely no faith of them adapting any of the Netflix lore & tone of the Daredevil franchise.

So, she basically has one-for-all.

There was this CW (or like ABC maybe?) show from back in the day about kids that were mixed up in the hospital the day they were born... One of those kids was deaf and there was a big focus on ASL in that show (the show definitely had a sort of "The More You Know" PSA vibe), but it made sense because it was more of a "slice of life" drama and not a superhero action show.

In the comic she was Blackfeet but they changed it for some reason. They were scared of the word Black, Blackfeet are more ''stereotypical'' natives, and they just want a new lore. Sorry, Blackfeet, you're too boring. On the other hand who would want to be represented by that? They changed her powers to be the ''power of the native''. Every time they end up being more racist!

You’d think after the disaster that was The Marvels they would’ve learned that poorly defined BS powers that do whatever the plot needs them to are a bad idea. But I guess not. This sounds like bad fan fiction. The fact that it’s actually a show people paid money to make is just sad. The only thing keeping Disney+ afloat at this point are all the parents whose kids love watching old school Mickey Mouse shows (which they are smart enough to keep free of wokeness).

I think they were already wrapping up filming by the time The Marvels came out. I think there is a point of "no return" in productions. Probably a deadline before a company can shelve a project for a tax write-off. I might have been down for Echo if they kepted it gritty and street level but nope. They just HAD to go full generic goddess mode.

I watched it. The first few episodes were pretty good. Now I get the direction they want to go into. Diversity and female leads. I'm not sure if it working because they are bypassing the main male fan base and want us to like these characters. Hence, the M.SHE.U.

I just came back from my local comic shop getting my books for the week and I ran into two people telling everyone how incredible the show is. And that it is Daredevil all over again. I couldn't believe the s*** these people were saying. If someone likes something that's fine but I asked them to give me a few examples of the things they thought were incredible they had nothing to say other than it's dark and gritty. They said the fights are incredible so what I did was I brought up the Daredevil fight scene and we broke it down frame by frame. In the end I was called a hater and that I hate everything just to hate. The shop owner which is a buddy of mine was laughing so hard he despises girl boss she he ciuldnt belive it

imagine an Echo series where she almost has spider sense. Spending so much time in boxing gyms makes her freakishly good at fighting, better than even Daredevil. But Daredevil can still hold his own because he does not fight like anyone else but during the fight Echo learns his style and counters. "Strong power, Cool fight, Female hero, FANS WOULD LOVE IT!" That would also explain why she thought she stood a chance against Kin Pin's organization. Her weakness is being blinded and bullets.

I'm dumb. I'd have just made Mystique shows. She's been a fighter, a lover, a criminal, a peacekeeper, a terrorist, a freedom fighter. She can be blue or white or black or brown or yellow or red or anything in between and more. Sh/e can be a her or a he or anything in-between or both. It is honestly insulting how incompetent these modern Hollywood writers are, instead of establishing rules to the world that they’re writing in, and establishing powers and limitations for their characters. They just make shit up on the spot without explaining things, and expect people to be OK with that, it’s incredibly unprofessional.

Have to give you serious kudos for suffering through this for us. I didn’t have faith in this series and I was right, unbelievable. Thank you Endymion love your stuff.

I'd like to actually hear from them how someone who's deaf is uninteresting, or how her "power" is lame? I'm sorry if someone who's design and skill set was built for street combat isn't enough for you. I don't go touting that I'm native or something like that to get worth. I go to work, I have regulars, I try to enjoy my day where I can. That's what Echo was. Now she somehow is only powered by her ancestors? What is this, Mulan? Echo wasn't meant to go toe to toe with Thanos or some other cosmic entity

This video and your commentary is spot on. Very few people could express my concerns and anger towards Disney better than this. It’s 100% accurate to say that Disney will completely destroy any IP they can get their pedo paws on. They don’t hide it and they’re laughing all the way to the bank while the majority of their fans dump hard earned money into this trash. Most of the time the don’t even wait until a show’s first season is finished before veering straight into a dumpster.

The fact that Disney was comparing King Pin to Thanos, even though a Side-Kick character that hasn't had ANY military training what-so-ever.. other than a creepy love interest in Hawk Eye (whom does have military training), somehow takes down King Pin. That above should show exactly how cheesy this entire show is going to be, before you even start watching it. Sure the blind lawyer from Queens also beat King Pin, but "Dare Devil" is an altered human/mutant.. 90% of Dare Devils opponents lose to him because they under estimate him because he's blind.

Boycott Disney.

I could of written something way better. Echo, A young woman, Maya Lopez, is born with the lack of eyesight and missing one left. Let as an orphan, she learned to fend for herself with the help of ravens and crows who found her laying under a bridge at a homeless shelter. Upon [insert magical item] she was able to bond her mind with the raven and crows who became her guardians. From using their visions, similar to the Crow famous hero Eric Draven, she can pop crimes wherever they take place and get there to help solve cases and defeat the enemy. However, using this ability too much gradually erode at Lopez's mental capabilities as well as put stress on any singular bird, but is prefer to be used across several birds. Upon the death of one bird, Lopez cannot bond with a new bird making her connections with the ones she has more important. See, I can write a better plot and character than woke Disney ever could in 5 mins or less. -Black man.

His power laid dormant until he was 11, until at school when his bullies went too far, stealing his special silver key necklace. In an instant, his hair grew into a luxurious greyish silver, and he grew taller, a uniform adorning him. He raised his hand to the air, his silver blade coming from the portal above. With a threatening slash, the bullies ran, along with everyone in the school. He turned to normal after the threat was gone, but unconscious due to the strain that was put on his body. He was taken home by his mother, who asked him what happened. Saphero didn't remember, but he remembers getting very angry and everything going black. Want me to continue?
