Echo CS 590 chainsaw review

Echo rep was nice enough to leave me with a demo for a bit, took the opportunity to go over it and put it through some wood.

*Coming up on having had this saw for a year....am a casual user and bought it to cut up sections for bowl blanks. Easy to start, **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend even after storage for a couple of months. Simple chain tension adjustment. Just cut up some 20" Osage Orange, including ripping bolts in half (at an angle). Like butter!*

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzread.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I have owned my CS-590 for over 5 years. It's a great saw. It starts easy, idles real well, and cuts fast! I have run mine harder, than any, I have owned before. I do keep it up, clean, well oiled, and stored right when put up for months! But, that's what it takes for them to be ready when you need it to run hard again. A fine saw. It's getting heavier as I turn 68, but it eats everything you put in front of it. You have to allow some things! The compression release is nice, it makes pulling the rope easy, for the bigger engine in this saw. If you have big trees to work over...this is the saw. I have spent lots more money for a lot less (name brand) saw in my time. ECHO makes a great bunch of two-stroke powered equipment. I have owned a full spread of them for 20 years, and still going strong.

I have this saw and would add that the choke issue you mentioned is actually a benefit in my experience. Number one it's not really in the way and number two if it was more flush with the case it would be much harder to manipulate when wearing thick/heavy gloves. So for me I like the fact there is that much material to get ahold of when wearing a pair of heavy gloves or with dirty oily etc. hands where grip is limited.

Absolutely love my Echo Timberwolf. Cut with guys who have the other big brands and all are always impressed with the work the 590 does. I'm pretty much asked to cut all the big stuff since I'm faster that guys with saws that cost hundreds more. Now I have a Husky 372xp as my other saw, and its slightly faster (should be as it's 10 cc more and $400 higher MSRP) but if I was a homeowner or weekend firewood warrior, I wouldn't hesitate at all about buying this saw.

I've owned one of these for a little over 2 years, and use it almost weekly . Great saw, but a few observations; If I flush cut stumps, and it spends extended time on its side, and I stop it o take a break, that thing will not re-start at all ---sometimes for the rest of the day. If she stays upright, no worries, even in 90 percent humidity and above. The chain adjustment pin just snapped off and was replaced under warranty by the dealer, but the replacement looks different . It does have tons of power and destroys all the hardwood we have here, including an 80 year old black walnut, most recently . Anti-vibe is good, but no quite up to Husq or Stihl. That's nitpicky, I know! Overall, the best 400 dollar saw out there, in my humble opinion.

Happens with mine. Two things: Never choke if its warm. (I'm guessing you are not) But that will definitely flood it. Second is if mine is hot and been run on its side, I'll start it by running with throttle wide open. Feel like most saws don't need this these days but its helped with refiring my saws after "those" kinda cuts. PS...I usually make those guys with the whimpy little saws do the stump cutting while the big boy bucks the rest...

I am German American I drive Japanese cars not German cars. My first 2002 Subaru Outback gave me 409,000 miles. My second 2002 Subaru Outback has 189,000 miles and is alive and VERY well. After all, a car is just a machine and it is only as good, as far as it goes and as much as it costs. I run Japanese chainsaws too. The Echo CS 590 Timberwolf is a machine and it is the best deal in chainsaws on the market. Period bar none. I got mine for $320 out the door brand spanking new from a Echo dealer. If you are arguing otherwise you are stuck in a ethnocentric world. Unless you have extra cash to throw away, then get out of your ethnocentric world and you will be a lot happier. This pretty much says it like it should be said.

If you watch my 35 second vid you'll see what I'm dealing with...the 400 is slowly getting it done but I'm now leaning towards binding a chain or two around the bottom 7ft or so of the tree and dropping it whole (minus the one big limb and one individual trunk I've already removed).

I have two great Stihls and the Echo 620PW, which is similar in every way to this one except the wrap-around handle. However, I come across the same problem as Alex Matthews had below with chain tensioning until I did two things: (1) locked down the nuts tighter than they should be, and (2) switch to Stihl chains, which for some reason don't seem to stretch as much under the heat of a long cut. However, I still can't figure out how to safely remove the top cover to access other parts. I removed every screw I could find and it still wouldn't let go! ha.

Not sure about the top cover, and don't have it available any longer to find out for you. On the chains though, the stihl chains are pre-stretched, so they do hold shape better than others that aren't. Though of those, I've only run the oregon, but the difference was noticeable, I was having to tighten up the chain way to damn much.

Hello Human Me again. Re CS-590 I know it comes standard with either an 18" or a 20" bar and a 20" I do want I think plus a small length bar - so could you also put a 16" or enen a 14" bar on this saw? For a two bar option. if no - why not? I understand why you can't go too big but what is the problem in going smaller if any?

Calibir1 Check with Echo but my CS 400 will take a 16 to 20. Personally I think 20" is too much for it but I'm happy with the 18 It came with. 4 years of fairly hard use and still fires on the 2ed pul and starts on the 3rd. Every frickin time!

I just sold my 271 Farm Boss that I bought last October and it's a very good saw. Started good and had a lot of torque, I loved using it. It cut pretty good. Think my next new saw will be the Echo CS590 though, it cuts faster from the comparison videos I've watched and costs $40 less with the 5yr warranty where Stihl has 1 or 2 yr extended warranty. For the price of $400 it beats both the Farm Boss & the Rancher in price, horse power, and warranty too. Can't beat it I don't think

I know this is an old vid but if anyone finds this while looking for saw options the choke is not an issue. WHat is annoying though is the on off switch when you are wearing bigger gloves. You can easily accidentally turn this saw off when operating. That is annoying, however, this is a great saw, easy to start, very fast cutter and if you are a landowner you will most likely find yourself just forgoing all other saws and running this one even for little stuff.

Have a 14" homelite (yes, garbage). Buying either Stihl farm boss or Echo CS 590. My garage is full of echo products. 75% leaning towards echo saw. What do you think. From my extensive research, they are comparable in reliability. Echo has longer warranty. Stihl is very temperamental - especially if you mix and match elevations when using saw (home versus camp). Comparable in price. Echo stock chain is more aggressive. Echo easier to adjust/maintain. Echo comparable motor CC greater than Stihl as it relates to price.

After running both, I'd say it's one of those things that comes down to a color preference. They're both great saws, each one has something that the other doesn't, but nothing that is a deal breaker on either end. I'm personally a bit more fond of stihl than echo, but that's due to reasons that aren't significant enough for me to recommend one over the other. Honestly, either way you go, I think you'll be pleased, both great saws.

Yes they look well made besides the few points I mentioned. I treat my saws like my hunting rifles, I know where all the important things are, safety, bolt release etc and I trust them. I clean my saws before I shower myself or eat at the end of a day. I just leave my saws dirty enough on the outside so they do not call me a lazy fuck, hahaha. Husqvarna or Stihl users etc will not buy a good machine if it has sloppy features. But I admire the quality and for the price, it looks like one that may last a long time. If they clean up the switch and the choke lever they will fly off the shelves. The look and feel of a saw is almost as important as the power market wise.

Only things I don't like about these saws (I have a 620P which is an upgraded version of this) are one the filtration system likes to pull in water if your like me where in tree service some days rain is unavoidable, soaks filter, instantly runs like shit! Second which is my bigger gripe because it cant be avoided is the chain tensioner will not allow for use of the complete chain, at about 30% teeth length your chain will be slack and dangling and your forced to buy new chain. Other than that, its about perfect seriously!
