For an in-universe answer as to why the hammers are different, either Fisk didn't care that the hammer wasn't the same as the one he killed his dad with because Maya wouldn't know either way, or he didn't want the evidence lying around so it had to be a different hammer, or he wanted it to symbolize what he said but wanted it to be a different hammer for her symbolism of breaking away from him. With the last one I think that could work as an audence metaphore that doesn't have to have the in-universe reason attatched to it.

I see a lot of people getting pissy over changes to characters race and or gender. I have absolutely no problem with them changing these things so long as the character stays fundamentally the same. I think a great recent example is the Percy Jackson show. Annabeth and Grover both had changes to their race but it isn’t an issue. These characters are the same if not better than their book counterparts. Where I start to have issues is when they use the representation as an integral part of their identities. As much as race and gender are important things in today’s society, we should be focusing on more universal and relatable struggles like family, death, and the crumbling of friendships rather than race relations and gender acceptance. These more particular themes alienate a large majority of the audience and lead to lower sales. There is a time and a place for these issues and I don’t think superhero films is the right outlet to express these problems.

This is pretty much the only channel I watch when it comes to MCU stuff anymore. Too many other channels have turned toxic. The MCU is meant to be fun, there's no need to be negative. 24:02 Maya says in one of the episodes that she only started getting the powers when she came back to Tamaha. The powers likely only activate in the native lands where the Choctaw people first arrived. Her father died in New York, so she couldn't get help from her ancestors there. And for her mother, it was probably an issue of timing (Maya couldn't get the healing powers to heal her mom because then she wouldn't be dead, meaning that the healing powers couldn't have been passed on in the first place). 33:30 I saw an interview today where one of the people who worked on the show stated that Maya tried to heal Kingpin but he was unable to let go of his rage, and so she couldn't actually heal him because he refused to give in.

it was such a good show, and very refreshing for the MCU that it wasn't the entire earth or universe at stake for the hundredth time. felt so nice to see a more grounded story with personal stakes, definitely looking forward to more of the street-level MCU! this was also the first mcu thing in a while that i watched before seeing any slightest bit of review or feedback anyone who had seen it, and oh my days it is so much better this way. while it wasn't perfect, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as some reviewers make it out to be just because saying "MCU thing bad" has become a trend of sorts to get views.

"Why didn't her powers activate when her father died?" She wasn't in the land of her ancestors. "Why is the hammer different?" Kingpin is too smart to hold onto evidence of a murder he commited. He had someone buy that hammer to use as a prop to control her, imho.

Just imagine, with her powers amplified, how she enters Kang‘s mind and sees all his rage, all his suffering; and maybe it should also be that she can go through his mind to the very first variant of Kang. I didn’t think Maya knew that the interpreter died because Kingpin spoke aloud facing away from Maya when he ordered her death. She also couldn’t hear the gunshot or them wrapping her up and carrying her away. She likely has no idea he had this done.

  • @AbitofEverything4U

    @AbitofEverything4U

Good feedback! So, my thought on the interpreter is that we saw three of them in the course of those 2021 flashbacks, so I bet he had each one killed and thus Maya was possibly aware. But you could be right that she didn't know.

  • @Celebok

Yeah, I was about to point this out too. They shot the interpreter around the corner and down the hallway, so Maya couldn't see what was happening and wouldn't hear the gunshot. As for the fact that Kingpin seemed to cycle through interpreters on a regular basis, perhaps he intentionally had them stand or sit in the shadows so that Maya wouldn't notice or care that she never saw the same interpreter more than once.

I just checked out the Disney+ timeline on my end, and they've actually placed the Netflix shows there now as well. Daredevil & Jessica Jones are placed between I Am Groot (right after GOTG2) and Age of Ultron, Luke Cage, Iron Fist & Defenders are placed between Ant-Man and Civil War and Punisher is put between Black Panther and Doctor Strange. Of course this doesn't account for later seasons but it's something

But that said there were other differences as well...I think Kingpin wasn't in a different room like that when it happened originally...I think he was in the same room as his father and mother. But we all have different memories in our head of what actually happened, so I wondered if that was the case. Perhaps we were seeing how Kingpin remembers it vs. how it really occurred?

My interpretation of the Kingpin dream sequence from the last episode is that Maya tried to help him release his trauma, release his pain, fear and anger, but that he was too stubborn, to emotionally damaged, to let that happen. So i think, when he says "What did you do to me?" he doesn't mean that Maya changed him in any way but that she forced him to think about something he repressed for so many years. I think the scene exists to show that at this point in his life Kingpin is nothing but the pure irredeemable evil which would be a great setup for the Daredevil show.

I'd like to start out by saying I like Maya's arc for this season, starting out as a violent apathetic loner assassin and ending with finding a non-violent emotional collaborative way to defeat Kingpin. Definitely shows her growth as a character. I like how they did her powers too, it was an awesome way to change up her character in a way that's specific to her and her culture and I'd like to see more of it, see which other of her ancestors we can meet and what their skills are. As far as the spiral is concerned, I was watching the New Rockstars recaps of Echo that Jessica Clemons is doing and I believe she says something to the effect of spirals are an important symbol in Choctaw belief and that with the spiral going counterclockwise in the show its like humanity humbling themselves to their gods or something like that. I didn't even pick up on the hammer being different until people started talking about it. I'm pretty much in agreement with you that its more of a symbolic thing and that he got rid of the original hammer and such like you say in the video and thats why it's different. To bring up New Rockstars again, on their Breakroom show Hector Navarro brought up that the hammer is symbolic as well, but in a different way, that the normal hammer is used for construction and Fisk used it to dismantle his dad or whatever while the hammer in the Echo show is used more in forging and tempering metals and such symbolizing Maya being forged in her grief and anger and whatever or something to that effect. I also agree that we'll likely see some of the more street level stuff start crossing over in the MCU. Like I'd suspect we'll see Fisk in Spider-Man 4 and Echo in Born Again and stuff like that. I definitely agree that Mayor Fisk and President Ross will be working together and stuff too. A lot of the internet seems to be thinking that too. I assumed the device on his eye was more meant to heal it, like Maya probably did shoot him in or close to the eye and it was really messy and such and that device is being used to heal the damage as much as it can, and what we see in the show is like 5 months worth of it healing. Speaking of eyes, I too think the ASL contact thing was cool, while I agree Fisk should have learned ASL if he truly did care about Maya it was still a cool way to try and better communicate with her nonetheless.

I think that the portrayal of the Choctaw city in Alabama is also to show that Oklahoma was not their original ancestorial land. Andrew Jackson had them and the other tribes moved to Oklahoma during his administration. On the hammer, Fisk's mother would not keep the murder weapon around and Fisk just had one of his goons pick up a hammer to use as a prop to temp Maya to complete her journey to the dark side.

  • @AbitofEverything4U

Oh wow...that's a cool point about them showing Alabama as the location of the original Choctaw city. Very subtle but important point the series made. Thanks for pointing that out. Regarding the hammer, we do learn in Daredevil S3 E6 that his mom kept the hammer. But I suspect Fisk did have it destroyed soon after that. Here is the dialogue from that episode. Fisk on phone: When I was in prison, my mother passed away. Among her effects was a shoebox with my name on it. A keepsake box of sorts. It was full of happy relics from my life. The gifts that I made her when I was young. The odd news clipping. And the hammer. The instrument of my father's death. I thought that she had thrown it away. But she was proud of what I had done, of who I was. She accepted me, without shame.

I enjoyed Echo, I can really only think of one scene that I didn't really like and that was when Bonnie and her mother were held hostage and they seemingly broke away after getting Echo's powers... but on reflection, while I think this specifically was a little bit lazy, it made some sense because they were all from the same bloodline. I also have a bit of headcanon about Bonnie considering the actress who plays her also voiced Kahhori, I like to believe she was related to Kahhori in the MCU as well and that's where the power came from lol Pretty sure the tribes are different and that would not hold up in MCU canon court though. The fight with You Know Who was one of the best-grounded fight scenes I've seen in the MCU in a while and Echo's introduction as a henchman for King Pin was a great scene, the way she went from scared and confused to kicking ass was **chef's kiss**

Iirc they auctioned off some set props of the defenders shows, so Marvel studios may not have access to the original hammer and just got a new one without making sure it matched. Also when Echo healed Kingpin I thought for a minute it would heal his scar, putting him back to the more traditional looking kingpin for his appearances in daredevil and Spider-Man 4 (if that is the plan for that film).

To be fair, they kinda did begin playing with the idea of the political/international and street level sides of the MCU intermingling and bouncing off each other with Black Widow and the Hawkeye series. But I would love it if they embraced it more going forward. There's a few characters that can easily walk between those two worlds (Widow, Elektra, Punisher, Wolverine when he's introduced, Shang-Chi, etc.) Street level MCU connects to Political/International MCU and Political/International MCU connects to Cosmic/Mystical MCU

I was actually thinking about the Echo timeline placement earlier today, and the fact that the show established that it takes place five months after that scene in Hawkeye, so I was wondering if Disney+ would put it in their timeline accordingly. I meant to look myself, but I ended up watching this video first. That's really cool that they placed it exactly in the right spot! I kind of wish MCU scenes that take place during the blip would actually mention the blip in some form, but I guess maybe Marvel is trying to avoid that in their street-level stories. I agree with your theory that Kingpin probably didn't keep the actual hammer, as it would've been evidence that he'd want to ditch right away. But even if it's meant to be the actual hammer, I doubt it's meant to suggest that the Daredevil series wasn't 100% canon, because adding all the Defenders shows to the official timeline was a pretty big deal. If they do later tell us it's the same hammer, then I guess think of it like, they've recast the hammer like they recast Bruce Banner or James Rhodes. Funny that you compared the mixing chemicals to the bomb from Die Hard with a Vengeance. Graham Greene was in that movie!

Wow...thanks so much for the kind words and positive feedback on the channel. Really do appreciate that. As for my take Echo and whether you should watch it or not...it is definitely more of a character driven story and the pacing is therefore slower. However, the story is interesting and well crafted and some of the fight scenes (esp. Ep 1 and 3) are very good. And the train scene in Ep 2 is also great. Ofc, Kingpin is menacing as always. The finale is probably my least favorite episode (similar to some of the other D+ shows), but it does a nice job of setting up the excitement for DD: Born Again. So my breakdown vid probably told you all you need to know to enjoy DD: BA and thus you could skip watching Echo But if you do get a chance to watch the series, I think you'll find it to be entertaining and I'd give it a 7/10 overall.

Speaking of the connection to Kahhori and her people, I have a wild theory (or at the very least a very wild guess). It probably doesn't mean much, but the people that the Choctaw were playing against in that game in the Episode 2 flashback had blue markings on their skin. Most likely it was just a visual way to differentiate the two teams, much like wearing a jersey in modern sport, but still, it reminded me of the What If episode. Plus, from the way they talked about that game, it seemed like the stakes were very high: whoever lost had to leave that land for good. So it seems to me that they were not from the same people, but rather two different peoples/tribes sorting out a border dispute (in a very healthy way, I must add haha!). Besides, the Mohawk river is not THAT far from Alabama (at least by modern day standards of transportation haha!), and if the "blue people" lost that game, they might have had to migrate to the Mohawk valley and settled there. I don't know, it's probably nothing, but it reminded me of that! Also, about the "hammergate", if you want to call it like that, I think that Marvel is achnowledging the events of the Netflix show, but not necessarily the visual details. So, yes, Kingpin did kill his dad with a hammer when he was a kid, but it doesn't have to be that specific hammer. I'm not sure why they would do that for the hammer in particular (probably they couldn't find that specific hammer prop anymore in their vaults lol!), but I think that this could become important in the future in case they want some of the old characters to show up but aren't able to necessarily recast the same actors. We already know, for example, that in Daredavil Born Again the character of Vanessa Fisk will be played by Sandrine Holt instead of Ayelet Zurer. So maybe this is Marvel's way of saying "Hey, the story and the events of the Defenders' shows are canon, but don't get too hung up on the visuals because they might change in the future, and probably will". And finally, about Kingpin's weird eyepatch, I assumed it was some kind of healing technology. If you think about it, if we really have to believe that between the Hawkeye show, where he was shot, and this show, where he comes back, there's only 5 months, then it's really hard to believe that that kind of injury would have healed that fast. Sure, his face is still a bit rough with those scars, and that's why he's still wearing this device from time to time, but it surely doesn't take just 5 months to heal from being shot straight to the face.

It's of my opinion that Kingpin's eye was most likely reconstructed. I can't believe that Maya grazed him or missed without confirmation and leaving him in a state that she believed he was dead. As she stated she thought he was dead which means I'm sure she confirmed her shot. I believe the bullet certainly entered his eye and he appeared to die. But the bullet didn't penetrate his skull allowing him to live. And then he probably had it reconstructed which would be very possible on the world of the MCU. I mean had EXTREMIS regrowing limbs in IM3 and so on so perhaps EXTREMIS was perfectly at some point off screen and was used to reconstruct Kingpin's eye. Just my idea!

Ross has to be Ritson’s vice president otherwise Brave New World would have to be set in 2029 for it to take place after the next time a new president would be sworn in after the election after Ritson’s last appearance in 2026 in secret invasion. This likely means that Ritson will not complete his first term, unless the MCU decides to switch which years are presidential election years and which are midterm years, therefore a presidential election in the MCU would be in 2026 rather than 2028 like it would be in the real world, as the show West Wing did a similar thing about switching presidential election years.

Great theories! So, I'm wondering if something happens to Ritson...I wouldn't be surprised if he might be either killed in office or impeached for his edict about killing aliens. That's likely how Ross gets into office so soon. We'll have to wait and see!

This show started very strong and overall it was pretty entertaining, BUT the ending was so anticlimactic imo. The fact that Fisk just leaves them was so weird for me. I understand Maya did SOMETHING to him but I still don't really get it. Great video btw!

They never gave us the year for that opening scene with young Maya, but based on the Maya's age in that scene, it seems she's the same age as the flashbacks in Hawkeye for Maya and those were in 2007.

Armor Wars is apart of the Street-Level Saga, so that means most likely maybe the villain of Avengers 5 will be Kingpin, and then they will bring back Kang the Conqueror for Avengers Secret Wars, which would make sense about what the Release Dates looks like! The Multiverse Saga February 2024: What If...? Season 3 May 2024: Eyes of Wakanda Season 1 July 26, 2024: Deadpool 3 September 19, 2024: Agatha Darkhold Diaries Season 1 November 2, 2024: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 January 2025: Daredevil Born Again Season 1 February 14, 2025: Captain America Brave New World May 2, 2025: Fantastic Four July 25, 2025: Thunderbolts September 3, 2025: Ironheart Season 1 November 7, 2025: Blade February 13, 2026: Armor Wars May 1, 2026: Avengers 5 May 7, 2027: Avengers Secret Wars This would give Marvel Studios enough time to figure out the Jonathan Majors situation, but also give us the fans the best of both worlds. The only dates that we don't know about are July 24, 2026 but we obviously know that will most likely be Spider-Man 4 & then November 6, 2024 which could be anything, my best bet would most likely be World War Hulk! Also Jonathan Majors could stay as Kang the Conqueror, kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKKq3MGeYZuWgbA.html We only have to wait until D23 on August 9, 10, 11.

I was really torn on what to do with Armor Wars, but I agree, that is likely part of the street-level storyline and perhaps Iron Heart will be as well, assuming it ties into Armor Wars. Lots of great street-level content coming our way before we dive head first into the final lap of the multiverse saga. So cool!

I honestly think this show could’ve really benefited from not having powers. Maybe keep all of the visions and the ancestry stuff bc I think it works for the culture and the family stuff. But I think if the moral of the story involves “relying on your family” then they could’ve used the ancestors as a way to show “your heritage matters, and your family, past and present will be there to help you”

That's a great point! I really loved the ties to her ancestors but wasn't as pleased about the powers. So your solution would allow for keeping the first and ditching the latter. Maybe they could go that direction for the future...perhaps she can't tap into the powers going forward, but can still tap into the knowledge and experience of her ancestors. I really like that idea!

Just a note on Daredevil: Born Again. The show was announced to have an 18 episode season, but when it was reworked and became the first Marvel Studios series to be given a showrunner, I believe it change from 18 to 12 (which I like much more because it means we won't get a dragged out season). I don't know if this has been confirmed or not, but that was the report. And along with that, came news that a season 2, also 12 episodes, was ordered alongside it, meaning they're REALLY betting on Daredevil to knock it out of the park. And I hope it does, because even though I've been enjoying a lot of what Marvel has been putting out since the start of Phase 4, something like Daredevil would really help to bring back some of the people who have fallen off. Because it they who have fallen off, not Marvel. Edit: Hector Navarro appearded on the channel The Breakdown (one of New Rockstar's three channels) for a discussion about the final two episodes, and in it, he provides a wonderful theory as to why the two different hammers are not a contradiction, which I love. Go check it out.

Dunno how I missed this upload but it's one I was really looking forward to. I love this series so much, I love the attention and love to native indians in the same way that Ms Marvel really did the same for Muslim culture. I had no idea about the altering of the flashback scene or even deleted scenes. Also is it just me or is the grave scene using the same setting as when Yelena was at Nat's grave? I will say I loved that the way the interpreter was taken care of is similar to the way Kingpin had another character taken care of in Daredevil, was a nice touch. I was also gonna mention that Kingpin MIGHT still have been blind in one eye, we know he had tech developed which may or may not have helped with his sight BEYOND the signing. Also I had no idea the ringtone was connected to Kingpin. Also when did we learn Val and Kingpin were working together?

  • @AbitofEverything4U

Yeah, I'm really curious about Kingpin's eye. I suspect we'll learn more in DD: Born Again. As for Kingpin and Val, my assumption was that Elanor called Kingpin, who then called Val, who then contracted Yelena to put the hit on Hawkeye. But I could be wrong about that. Thoughts?

Man such a great series, this is probably the biggest surprise I’ve had in the entire mcu. This along with Agatha I felt were absolutely unnecessary and didn’t even want in the slightest, I got kinda excited to see more daredevil and kingpin but watching it was a whole other thing. This is now probably my third favorite Disney plus series right behind Loki and moon knight and I can’t wait for more stuff like it. I especially really appreciated how they did the Native American culture. While I didn’t really dislike it kahorri in her own episode was really overshadowed by all the Native American culture and worldbuilding in my opinion. She didn’t feel like she had much depth or character traits in general, it was just here’s Native American culture which is cool, but I don’t wanna be watching a documentary in my superhero show. I feel like echo did this far better, not only are the characters far more vastly different but the mythology plays into the themes of the show and literally explore the character traits of echo rather than overshadow them. I know it’s a lot easier to do over what like 4-5 hours then a 30 minute episode but I still feel like this was far better. Between this and Ms marvel I’m learning so much about culture while getting great stories, not just documentaries about their cultures. I’m curious if we’re gonna get a defenders 2.0 with daredevil, echo, maybe hawkeye or kate bishop, maybe punisher if he really comes back, and Spider-Man hopefully. That would be so cool to see.

Excellent feedback on the show...Similar to you, I also liken it to Ms. Marvel in that both shows really did a great job of letting me learn about a different culture but not feel like it's being "taught" to me. I also never felt like the cultural elements were forced or shoehorned it. It was just a natural part of the overall story. Kudos to Marvel for giving us these types of character driven stories that also teach us about things that a large number of the viewers had never heard or seen before. And yeah really looking forward to a Defenders 2.0!

The show overall was very good. The fight sequences were cool. I really loved the first four episodes. The representation of native cultures was very cool. But the last episode was a little weird. I guess they wanted to pull off a final battle like other Disney+ shows, but for me, it did not fit very well with the overall story. One more thing is that I did not like Echo having supernatural powers. The thing we love about Daredevil and Kingpin is their hand-to-hand fighting skills and not that they have some powers. That's why Iron Fist and Jessica Jones are not as popular as Daredevil. But I hope they don't make Echo use her power too much in fights, but only in certain situations.

Well said. I think you did a great job of summarizing the things I liked and the things I didn't like about the series. The first for episodes had alot to love and the finale fell abit flat for me. I think her supernatural powers are interesting, but I don't know that I understand where she will go from here with them. I do hope they find a way to bring her into the street-level storyline, but you are right that I find Daredevil alot more interesting due to his hand-to-hand fighting skills and it seems Echo has moved away from that. Regardless, I enjoyed the series and I can't wait for DD: Born Again to arrive!
