eBay Reseller Shows How She Cleans Plush

Here's the video I promised on how I clean plush.
Here's the detergent recipe I use:
In a 5 gallon bucket, mix hot water with 1 cup Borax, 1 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup Oxy Clean, and 1/2 cup citric acid. The citric acid will cause initial foaming when mixing, so add it before the bucket has a lot of water in it. I use 1 cup with a load of laundry.

    There are a pair of ladies on the show “the repair shop” who restore dolls and stuffed animals. They mix up soapy water but only use the foamy part of the soapy water to clean with. No water itself

    Hi, 2 years ago I went into a dry cleaners with some really expensive stuffed animals that I found they were Looney Tunes in nature and very old. I knew I'd be able to sell them but getting them clean was another story all together. So I had the bright idea to take them to the dry cleaners hoping that they would clean them for me. The gentleman in question looked at me like I was nuts. About a week ago I went in there to take some coats and saw a new sign that says they not only clean stuffed animals now but they also clean pillows and rejuvenate ugg boots. The problem was that they wanted between 10 and $20 per stuffed animal. It was my turn to look at them like they were crazy. Your way is a lot cheaper my friend and makes a lot more sense thank you for the info.

    Thank you for your tips on cleaning plush! I am just getting ready to start reselling on Poshmark and am very, very anxious that I will mess things up! I am 60years old. My husband will also help behind the scenes. We will not be doing KZread in the beginning but are definitely not opposed to it in the future". Oh my…. Lol😅😂 I really do enjoy your and Roberts content, we would enjoy seeing more of him also! We enjoy the playful bickering between you! I find your voice, Rebel, tone very calming and authoritative. Oh, and I am excited to try your laundry soap. My youngest daughter that’s married and I both have sensitive skin!l thanks again Rebel!

    Hi Rebel! I've been trying to catch up with my audio books this week, so I'm still not quite caught up to date with all of your videos. This cleaning video was great. I had watched it a few weeks ago. I watched it again this morning with new eyes, since I now have some plush to sell. I told my husband that we should get a steamer and he looked at me then reached under the bathroom cabinet and pulled out a hand-held one that he had bought a few months ago for some project. I laughed and said, "Oh, is that what that is?" LOL! 🤭 I had seen it under the sink and had no idea what it was. Ha!

    Recently discovered your channel and you've come a long way...400 subscribers a year ago to 5.4k! Congrats!! I think it's great the lengths you go thru to clean your plush! I don't resell but I love plush and will often rescue them from thrift stores, esp the bins. I put them in a pillow case in our front loader washer regular cycle, warm water. Once I even pulled out a plush to discover it had an electronic voice box in it ... And it still worked! I also put most in the dryer (still in the pillow case) medium heat for 10-20 minutes, then let them air dry the rest of the way. If they have longer hair/fur they might not go in the dryer, but I use a dog comb to brush out and fluff their hair/fur.... It works wonders! I've cleaned and saved many a Sully (from Disney's Monsters Inc) that way 😉

    Hi Rebel I'm new here and your the first person I've seen a how to on washing plush. Loved the video! Thank you very kindly for sharing. You really know your plush and your cleaning! Not to be nibby or pushy but please take this as me trying to be most helpful. I use to many years ago be a show dog breeder and laundry was a 4 loads a day just about every day in my 3 human home. We used towels for so much!!! And I would go to yard sales and buy tiny plush toys to send home with each puppy and used receiving blankets. Nothing knit or anything that had holes because a toe could get trapped and well it was my baby's! With buying used and even new I always washed with the best stuff that would disinfectant the items as much as I could do. The steaming I understand and I too bought a gun to clean corners in the dog room and window sills ect.. well for about the last 25 or so years I have been adding a hospital grade disinfectant to all my laundry toys included. It's not cheap until you start to use it. It last a long time really because you use so little really. And you can load it in a spray bottle and spray about any surface. I've always bought it at revivalhealth.com it's called Health Guard Laundry Additive & Disinfectant If you put it in a spray bottle and sprayed your plush and let air dry it disinfects and keeps it from molding and will work for I believe it's 6 or 8 months sitting on a shelf. It kills so many things and a mold growth inhibitor. I can't tell you all the good it has done for us. Parvo was running wild everywhere at one time back when I was showing and breeding and I truly feel this stuff kept my family safe. Once it dries your good to go. You can call or look the stuff up and they may have the list of all the things it kills it's a huge list and really just Penny's per use really. Great to use all through the house. If you order it ask for a print out of all the uses and mix for each use. I have alot of issues with perfume and smells myself and it's never given me any issues. Also just because I had minimum 3 bags of dog plush a week to wash with little down time for my big dogs what will speed up the drying time without using a dryer is to lay out on the sofa on a sheet and turn a floor fan blowing over them for few hours then turn over. I have doggy blowers so it helped a lot faster but also adds to the electric bill. I just wanted to be helpful. I hope you give it a try. I think they use to offer a money back guarantee you could ask it's been so long since I needed all those answers. But 6 to 8 months disinfected just sitting on a shelf still amazes me. Being hospital grade means a lot in my book. I hope you try it and please give me a heads up if you do and let me know what you think. Thanks again for the video I was afraid I would do it wrong and I sure would have. Big difference between a dog toy and collectables. Have a great day.

    Usually, I let them sit for a long time to try to decrease the smell. Others have said placing in the sun may help, sealed in a container with kitty litter, or using an ozone air purifier (I've not tried any of them though). I've also read to spray with vodka and let sit. Not tried that one either, lol. Those plush are tough though. I have listed them before and just stated that it had a musty smell and leaving to buyer to clean.

    So very helpful, Rebel! Thank you. Does EBay and other platforms require sanitizing before selling? I know it’s the right thing to do but is it required ? Also, how do you keep your water bills in check? Seems like you’d be doing a lot of washes! Thanks again!!!!!

    Excellent video! For plushies with a low-pile fur, I use a clean ultra-soft toothbrush to fluff the fur up after washing. Works great for small areas such as around the face etc. Also for low-pile fur, a (manual) cashmere sweater defuzzer comb is amazing. I stopped using an electric defuzzer after accidentally making a hole in a very high-value cabbage patch kid dress 😖 I was being super careful at the time, and going really slowly. So I don’t use an electric defuzzer anymore, not worth the risk. I like using Arm and Hammer baby detergent to clean toys and clothes. It has enzymes in it that eat away most stains, but leave the fabric in great condition and it’s safe on colors. I think they make a fragrance-free version. The one I use has a very light fresh fragrance that doesn’t linger. I like this detergent because it’s very effective at cleaning, but safe for babies and children.

    Hi Rebel. I love your channel❣️ I found you through The Hustle Couple. Its nice to see someone who loves toys 🧸 and plush as much as I do. I have quite a few plush that still have the paper tags 🏷 so I have been wondering how I was going to get them clean. So you were saying that the plush with the nut shells inside can’t go in the washer? And besides that and felt, and electronics, what else do you not machine wash? Also, I have a front loader, is that OK?

  • @TheRebelReseller

    @TheRebelReseller

    2 жыл бұрын

    Sometimes, plush with tags just can't be cleaned without running them through the washer. I just state that paper tags are loose in the listing. Of course, you won't be able to list as new but I seldom ever list as new anyway. Some vintage plush is stuffed with foam, foam pellets, or paper so be careful with them. I think front load would be about the same as mine - top load but no agitator. The newer aroma therapy plush shouldn't be washed as the pellets are not removable. I also try not to wash vintage plush with clothes on as it seems the clothes don't do well in the wash and look awful when I get them out to dry.

    Front loaders are gentle on your clothes and toys but I always do the towel setting so that more water is added. And you have to manually program it for an extra rinse. Without extra rinse you'll probably notice your whites tend to yellow because they are not rinsed completely of detergent. In Europe they wash, then rinse twice for every load. Could laundry soap be carcinogenic? idk. Don't want that on our linens and clothes. Dreft laundry spotter. great at removing baby stains. LA awesome from dollar tree. the yellow one. has removed stains for me. Her recipe 1 c Washing Soda 1 c Borax 1/2 c Oxiclean 1/2 c citric acid mix in 5 gal bucket. I also purchased a brass cleaning tool/brush (harbor freight or where ever) to clean out my velcro, my vacuum roller, etc. when the bristles fill up with lint your carpets are not getting as clean.

    Anytime you're trying to remove sharpie marks on a hard or solid surface, one of the best and easiest is taking a new sharpie and coloring directly over the stain, then immediately wiping it off with alcohol. There's something in the ink that causes it to react when it't hit with fresh wet ink.
