Yes!!! Love that, a way I learn search terms for listing an item is just simply “sell similar” on an item the exact same that has sold! I’ve learned the real names of products that way! Rather than “jacket” like a “chore coat” and ect. Big differences! 👊🏼

So I happen to live very close to the post office. This makes things very easy for me. Have you ever or do you live far, say 15+ minutes, from a post office?
@TheChaChingKing

I haven't. I've lived in a small town for about 30 years. Not only have I always been close to the post office, but I usually have the place to myself when I do go in.
Thanks again for the great info. I’m learning a lot. You said that flat rate shipping is what you use. I would like to simplify my shipping. What exactly does that mean? Thank you!
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
Since I have shipped some of my items many, many time, I know about what they will cost. For example, baseball caps. I have shipped SO many that I know they will cost me around $5. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. But close enough to $5 that I know I won't take a beating. So, I charge $4.99 shipping. If the hat cost a dollar and sells for $25 and I miss on the shipping by another dollar, it won't crush my financial empire. On items over a pound that fit in a USPS padded flat rate envelope, I know that's going to cost me $8.30. So, I charge $8.99. Does that help?

I do 30 days with the buyer paying returns. I tried free returns, briefly, and I had many more returns. It could have just been the luck of the draw. I didn't run the experiment long enough to see if free returns did bring in more sales and no more returns. For now, I'm 30 days, buyer pays returns. Offering NO returns doesn't work. Simply because all a buyer has to do is say that it wasn't as described and they can return it anyway. So, no returns only hurts honest buyers. My return rate is normally under 1%, so it hasn't been a big deal for us.
Hi Scott - Great starter video for new resellers. But when I look at other sellers' listings Ebay shows me the shipping cost to my zip code. I am always logged in. If buyers are logged in don't they see actual shipping costs too?
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. If you are logged in and always ship to the same address, it just shows up. Mel and I do all of her parent's orders, and they live in a different city. I was also thinking about people who are on shared computers. But, no doubt, that step wouldn't exist for anyone who's logged in and uses one primary shipping address. I could have been more clear in the video.
I'm watching your videos and absorbing as much as possible. Thank goodness I can go back to them when I'm lost and need clarification on something. I do have a question now that I'm not sure if you've addressed yet or not. I understand you can sell without having a store and assume that the feedback for buying or selling from your personal account is the same as you mentioned in this video with no differentiation. When you open a store does your feedback carryover from your personal account to your store?
@TheChaChingKing

Melody and I have always defined "vintage" as an item over 20 years old. We define "antique" as something over 100 years old. There's some variation on those definitions in certain categories, but that rough rule serves us pretty well. Thank you for the kind comments!

I think I am ahead of myself when tou sell an item you ask a certain price plus shipping how do you know what to charge that person for shippingThe box weighs 2lb5.0
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
No one can tell you for sure because there are too many variables. If it fits in a USPS medium flat box, you could charge $15 or $16 and be pretty close. You could also look and see what other people are charging for the same item. But, I recommend you use calculated shipping, let the buyer pay for shipping and let eBay calculate it once it sells.
Any advice on getting better shipping ratings on feedback? my shipping feedback went down to 4.7
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
Cost of shipping? Free shipping is the solution. I don't do shipping, but you get a perfect rating on shipping if it's free. Other than that, make sure it ships on time every time.
I want to learn what to do After packing and weighing it how do I figure out t h e price
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
eBay doesn't really have a preview for pricing. In part because you have to know where the item is going. You could use a website called Pirate Ship and enter your address, the shipping weight and package size and then put in a zip code of a potential destination. If I eliminated Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, I could put Maine and see what that would cost since I'm in Texas.
Just curious what your average net profit margins are when you include all fees with ebay and paypal? Do you add a fee to the listing to compensate? Do you use a general rule when searching for materials to list such as minimum profit potential? Thank you. I am enjoying your videos.
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
My cost of goods is generally really low because we buy in bulk a lot. So, after shipping and eBay fees, we normally "make" around 65%. Now, keep in mind any time someone on the internet (like me) tells you how much they make, there's a lot not included in those figures. That 65% doesn't include mileage, storage, cleaning...just SOOO many other ancillary costs. We make enough to do all the things we want to do, have enough to give away and still save some for tomorrow. That's probably the most transparent answer I can give.
I have had an EBay account for a very long time as a BUYER. I’m not sure if I ever left feedback for what I purchased (until now, I didn’t know how important it is to the seller). Can I use that same account with a different ID and email just for selling?
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely use the old account, and that is usually preferable. You can change the email and ID. You can't assign two IDs to the same account that I'm aware of.
Can you pull the calculated number and use it as fixed price?
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
No, because the calculated shipping price isn't given until there's already a buyer. It can't calculate the cost without their shipping address.
So what you are saying at the end is when you have a new account, you should buy certain things on ebay to rank up your reviews just so your account looks much better and safer to purchase items on once you start selling?
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. Ebay makes no distinction between feedback as a buyer and feedback as a seller. Having some history of positive feedback will run off some of the scammers that target new accounts.

You won't know the exact cost until it sells. Because, depending on where it is going, it can cost different amounts. So, if it ships someplace close to you, it would cost less than if it shipped some where far away. So, if you enter a fixed price, enter a higher amount. Calculated shipping will charge the customer based on where they are at. You have less risk. but you won't know how much they get charged until the item sells. eBay takes care of charging them the right amount.

The only response I'm getting are from scammers,is this just part of the business or would you happen to have a remedy for this problem, just asking...
@TheChaChingKing
Жыл бұрын
Man, I'm sorry. I hate that. The solution truly is feedback and time. I can't even remember the last time a scammer tried me. It really will get better. They will fade into the background. Don't let someone intent on doing wrong discourage you.
A question please. I am relatively new but it seems even happy customers fail to leave positive (or any) feedback. Should I bother to solicit it? I have had no problem with scammers and eBay seems OK with my performance.

Click through rate. Think of it like this. 100 people are walking down the street and see my dress in a store window. 7 go into the store to look at it. 7% were interested enough to go in and get a closer look.
