Did you feel confident that they didn't heat up the bagel on the same surface as the gluten ones? Heading there this June! Thanks for this

Just curious about traveling and eating out in europe. When foods at restaurants are listed as gluten free are they always celiac safe? Sadly that isnt the case here in the US. Many restaurants have gluten free menus that are more for people who are gluten free out of choice rather than necessity. It sucks!

I think it really depends on the place! Some places are completely gluten free and therefore celiac safe. For example an entirely gluten free café in my Edinburgh video last summer. In other cases where they provide gluten free options but still serve non gf, I always ask if its celiac safe. I have also seen restaurant GF menus that state the food is unsuitable for celiacs, so I understand how frustrating this can be. I make sure they realise that I am celiac and not able to eat gluten and it will make me very sick. One thing to watch out for is contamination in the deep fryer and to ask if there is a separate gf fryer if ordering something fried. A lot of places in Ireland actually do have separate GF fryers as we have a high celiac rate here. I often read up online/Instagram to see if other coeliacs have visited a place before and have been okay eating there!
