Eating at Torrisi NYC. Amazing Italian Food from the Restaurant Group that Opened Carbone

I eat at and review Torrisi Bar & Restaurant in the Nolita neighborhood of New York City. The establishment is currently one of the most popular in the city and comes from the Major Food Group, which is the same restaurant group that started Carbone. I compare the two restaurants and judge which is the better of the two. Torrisi is an Italian restaurant from chef Rich Torrisi but has a number of NYC influences across the menu.

    I’m Greek and I would never pay that much for a Gyro sandwich. Let alone a minuscule version of one. I also have never seen it that small in all of Greece either. But I appreciate your reviews. If you fly down to Greece, Cyprus (Or any other Greek island). I can recommend some great affordable places for you.

    Yeah, that was an insane price even for NYC. I really should've asked how much it was before I got it. I've been to Greece before and really enjoyed it! I'll let you know if I get over there again.

    James, as always your reviews and delivery style are dead on. I used to live in the West Village and would frequent many of the areas that you have gone to (Nolita, SoHo, East Village, West Village, etc.). One that was always a standout and excellent value was Piccolo Angolo on Hudson and Jane in the West Village. The owner, Renato, was a real character and added a great deal of entertainment during each dining experience. He has passed away but believe his son Peter and daughter Maria now run this establishment. Very small (seats around 40), but food was always excellent. Dont know if they make it anymore, but the lobster and crab cannelloni (I think I got that right) were excellent. Keep up the great work James.

I also would love a video on a waterfront/boat restaurant in NY!

    Thank you! That's an awesome gift and I hope you enjoy NYC! That would be a difficult video to make since I feel that I'm not qualified to make it. I would have to eat at so many more NYC restaurants just to get a decent grasp on what to recommend. It's overwhelming the amount of food options in the city. As far as waterfront restaurants, The River Cafe is definitely the best. It's got a great Lower Manhattan skyline view and the food even earned the establishment a Michelin Star.

    👞 Sometimes a restaurant gets so popular that I begin to hate it. Hahajaja! I wouldn’t be happy at a loud and expensive restaurant. And by the way, I don’t believe that Clooney story for a second. No way is any restaurant rejecting an A- list star, unless the A-list Star was willing to work in cahoots with them. By seemingly “rejecting” an a-list star, a restaurant can give the impression that it’s THAT exclusive. Your average joe will then take it as a major accomplishment when he scores a table.. . thinking that he “beat out” A-ist star, George Clooney. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but it could have.

  • @Jamesnu

    @Jamesnu

    Жыл бұрын

    Funny enough, the bar area of this restaurant is actually quieter than it's dining room. Yeah, there's no confirmation that the story is true, but I can't imagine why George Clooney would want to give the impression that he was rejected from the restaurant. If he was working with them, he certainly doesn't need the money and it's not exactly a plus for his image. But no doubt about it, it certainly bolster's the restaurant's image and creates a sense of exclusivity.
