Eating at Luigi’s Pizza. Brooklyn. An Iconic NYC Pizza Restaurant

I eat and review the pizza at Luigi’s Pizza in South Slope, Brooklyn of New York City. South Slope is located right below Park Slope and some say that Luigi’s is actually located in Park Slope or South Park Slope. Since 1973, Luigi’s has remained a neighborhood institution by offering traditional pizza at affordable prices in a classic old school restaurant that seems to have remained the same over the years. I eat a fresh mozzarella slice, Sicilian slice, grandma slice and a pepperoni slice.

    I've never been, but now I have to! I lived in Dyker Heights for a bit, and Bay Ridge has its share of good spots. I'm back in Flushing now, and there's great spots here, too. The one place I'll always miss is Sal's on Northern Blvd from my childhood.... The owner used to smoke behind the counter while making pizza, perhaps that's why it was so good 😂😂😂 (imagine that now?!) I 💯💯 agree about the old school neighborhood spots. Thanks for the review, excellent as always!

    Cool vid! Who knows what the future will bring, but I’m hoping to road-trip from northern Iowa to Luigi’s this summer. The place is an institution and what a fun experience it would be to drive 17 hours to indulge in some real New York style pizza. Will bring my 16 year old daughter so she can see that there’s more to the world than cornfields!

    Mark Iacano from Lucali Pizza gave the highest remarks and said that Luigi's pizza is the top. That's an unusually thick Grandma slice. Grandma slices tend to be the priciest slices in the $4.00+ range at most places. I know a place that makes a great grandma pie when I drive through Lakehurst, NJ, known for the Hindenburg disaster. The owner explained that it uses Sicilian pizza dough and is pressed hard into a rectangular pan. Their grandma slice is very thin, so cracker-crispy, and the outer crust edge is like a crostini bread stick. They also decoratively pipe pesto on it. Their Margherita slice is great too and so flavorful, but their standard pizza has no flavor at all. 🤔

  • @Jamesnu

    @Jamesnu

    I can see why Mark would give the place such praise, it's delicious! Grandma slices can be excellent and I really enjoyed that one at Luigi's. Having spent most of my life living in Chicago, it's a type of slice that I haven't even heard about until I moved to NYC.

  • @jordangroff8978

    Wow, $18.75 for a large pie in New York? I feel like that's dirt cheap! He could probably easily charge $28-$32 if he wanted to.

    Let's be honest. you could've made "Do The Right Thing" about Luigi's in South Slope but just pointing a camera at the front door. He's probably a nice guy. But you know he's seen, said, and done some off chit in his day. No doubt the pizza's a good quintessential slice and cheap. You gotta respect that. But I feel like it's gotten a ton of social media hype when it's not *that* uncommon to find family owner-operated slice joints/pizzerias from the 70s. They're all over the tristate.

  • @Jamesnu

    @Jamesnu

    2 ай бұрын

    Indeed, there's a ton of classic family owned pizzerias, but I've never seen one as affordable and at the same time, delicious as Luigi's with such a charismatic owner inside a restaurant space that really hasn't changed.
