When I was growing up in Brooklyn in the 1960s, my mother would bring home "appetizing" (a term, BTW, that a lot of people who didn't grow up with it aren't familiar with) from a store called Fred and Murray's on Ralph Avenue, which was where we lived, and bring back bagels, bialys, belly lox (!), smoked whitefish, and, of course, pickled herring, every Saturday night. Maybe not the food we ever had, but so delicious! Thank you so much for taking me back.

For all of us that love travel and food, Anthony Bourdain was an inspiration to all of us. One of the very few times I cried when a celebrity passed away, a person I didn’t know or ever meet, but he simply meant so much to me and the things I love to do in life. Thanks for this video Jon this was great. Adding more of these things to my list of places to visit. I mean realistically all the food travel shows and the travel food YT channels in some way owe are because of Anthony Bourdain. Loved this

I usually sit where Bourdain sat, a little more crowded, but you really get a taste of the place. Something important to know is that Greengrass is cash-only. It's pricey, so hit the ATM before you come in. Also, get a plate of latkes, they are wonderful! Bourdain also loved DiFara in Brooklyn, he helped put them on the map, and Papaya King on the Upper East Side, NOT the West 72nd Street location, the one on 3rd near 86th.

Ate everything in all kinds of places, like a kid in a candy store and the places I miss the most are the Jewish delis/appetizing joints with the bulging smoked/preserved fish cases, pickles, baked goods (bagels and bialys of course) and coffee, hot tea and pastries. Your videos have helped me build a perfect itinerary to NYC but I think there’s so much more tourist would to like to know when travelling to NYC that no one on KZread has covered and I think you’d get great response from a few of my suggestions, such as: 1) Best Airport to land 2) Famous movie locations in NYC from the Lotte palace(Gossip girl) to the ghost busters station to home alone scenes to Breakfast at Tiffany’s to the friend’s apartment 3) Wollman ice rink during winter and summer 4) Famous celebrity’s restaurant and bakeries like Carlos Bakery from Cake boss 5)Fun activities to do like go karts or mini golf 6)For some reason no one speak about Woodbury commons yet everyone I speak to back in South Africa tells me it’s one of the best shopping places to get good deal(Would be nice to see a guide on it) 7) Best hotels to stay ranging for different budgets 8) Simple trick in NYC, like how to get a SIM card and how to book a Broadway show etc I would love to see a video with some of these suggestions, keep up the great work

I miss the old booths at Rudy’s. The legend was they were originally a red “leatherette” and one day one of them got ripped so they put a piece of red tape over the rip. Eventually, over time and other tears the entire booth was just covered in the tape. That’s what I was told in my first time in the bar in the summer of 1984.

Oh how I loved Anthony Bourdain this video makes me sad 😢 I was fortunate enough to meet Bourdain at a book tour in Orlando where he autographed one of his books and shook my hand. That was a happy day!

I will never believe that he topped himself. I bought all of his books. He said that if he ever were to do that, it would be an overdose of H, an addiction he recovered from. He would have had no trouble getting some, even in rural France. And he was crazy about his daughter. I do hope, for her sake, that the truth comes out eventually. Nice tribute to him to visit some of his favourite spots in NYC. He also liked "dirty water" hotdogs, which always made me laugh because those were the first hotdogs I ever knew.

I used to go to the Burger Joint in the early 2000s. It really has changed since I was last there. Big Nick's was the greatest burger place in New York ever. Unfortunately, it closed some years ago.

I scrolled back and smashed that "Like" button. Hey, I understand NYC is expensive but actually a burger at that place is about the same prices (but with fries) that you can get at most burger joints even in the suburbs these days. But WHAT IS THE DEAL with a diet Coke at $4.59 ?????? Then there's the 9% restaurant meals tax on top of that? Plus you leave some sort of a tip to someone, right, the server, the house, whatever? I think Cokes at $4.59 each is outrageous !! A draft beer used to be that price in some fancy joints, less in an actual bar that serves burgers. And as for the sturgeon and lox with the bagel. You DID note that the lox were from Gaspe Canada, (part of Quebec Province) and NOT from Nova Scotia, right? Thanks for the video. I need to get back to NYC and go to a couple shows, stay in a couple of moderately-priced hotels for a few nights, and eat and drink and take some great ferry rides the rest of my time there. You inspire me to visit after 30-40 years away.
