Eat Like a Local in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca

Eat Like a Local in Puerto Escondido
In this video we take you to eat local food in Puerto Escondido. We know what you are thinking, "Another food vlog in Puerto Escondido?" YES! but this time we show you where to eat like a local in Puerto Escondido. We are Jenny and Kevin two Mexican-Americans from Chicago traveling in Mexico in search of home.
Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca has easily been one of our favorite places in all Mexico. We have traveled here three times in one year and it keeps drawing us back. The gastronomy of Oaxaca is among the best in all Mexico and Puerto Escondido is no exception! Aside from enjoying from delicious home cooked meals with this video we want help to support local family owned businesses.
One of the challenges of this vlog is that Kevin is on a keto diet for now and we will show you some of our favorite spots and show you the challenges of not being able to eat carbs in places where tortillas are an essential part of our diet. If you are interested in learning more about how we manage keto in Mexico or traveling on keto make sure to leave a comment below.
We consider Puerto Escondido one of Mexico’s best beach destinations, DON’T MISS OUT on our guide to Mexico’s paradise.

Que rico- I am here on my first day and found your video while I couldn't sleep at night. A relief from the tourist videos. Your video and the video about how plastics are moving into the ocean from Puerto Escondido - and the lives of the garbage pickers - were the most real and important videos about this piece of paradise. Warmest regards Jennie

I just recently found your channel and I'm a new subscriber who was born to a Mexican father and an American mother. I'm a middle child who has a half older sister who the same as me and a young bio sister the same as me. Born and raised in Charlotte, NC and is a freshman in high school. But I think being Mexican-American is great but I don't speak or understand Spanish that well, and I love Mexican and American food.

Thank you subscribing! If you don't mind, how did you run into our channel? We are curious because want to find more subscribers like you. Being mexican-american can mean very different things to people but what's most important is that you feel happy and prideful with both! The language is not an issue because we have all different upbringings and circumstances. Plus it's never too late to learn a language for example us we learned Portuguese and now want to learn Italian just because we like it. So don't feel bad about the language and isn't so delicious to indulge in Mexican and American food! Saludos!

Yes 1,000 times to what you're saying about local economies, and that's one fo the reasons we love you guys. And we completely agree with what you're saying about Tulum. All of the hype in recent years has actually made us NOT want to visit, even though we know it's beautiful. Hopefully the hype dies down and the locals can have their Tulum back. That cocoa looks amazing - I've always wanted to try! That's cool that the steam whistle is how you know the guy's outside w/the goods - Armulfo's gonna be famous now. Teresa's super cute, too, it's great that you feature them in your vids. I was gonna say, that looks like the same dog from the barbacoa video! 🤣 You guys can food tour us to death, we don't mind!

Hi friends! Sorry for the delayed response we left to mountains and had no signal nor electricity from 9am-6pm daily so we just decided to disconnect lol We have not been to Tulum but unfortunately most has been sold to foreigners who are money hungry and people say that even a bottle of water can cost 5-6 dollars! Arnulfo is going to be so happy to see this. We recorded his part of the video a while back and we kept running into him and he'd ask about the video lol We really want to collab with you guys and do a food vlog! That would be awesome! Looking forward to your cruise vlogs! Saludos

Great video as always! Last year I booked a trip to Tulum but changed my mind after seeing your Sayulita video! I went to Tulum in 2014 and I can't even begun to imagine how much more develiped and gentrified it is now. It is a beautiful place but the mass commodification of it is a huge turn off for me. I completely agree w you about supporting the local microeconomy. I try my best not to patron foreign owned properties or restaursnts when I travel. I would rather leave my money in the hands of the locals.

Great video! Many thanks! One suggestion - it would be great if you could add English subtitles to your Spanish conversations. I am trying to improve my Spanish - but sometimes I need help. We stay closer to Playa Coral and have walked past a few of the locations you featured (on our way to Centro). I will take a closer look when we return. I had no idea that Coco Frio also had mezcal - I am in! We have patronized the sweet potato man. I have to admit to being a bit nervous about patronizing what I will all "pop up" restaurants (in vacant lots, etc). However, I completely agree with the idea of supporting local businesses. So how to know if a particular comedor is going to lead to stomach problems?

Hi Dan! Writing back a quick response to the first suggestion. When you watch on KZread select English subtitles in settings and we always translate all the conversations through the KZread settings

@@EatBailaTravel OK thanks. It works on the computer. We have been watching on the tv - I guess I will have to see if I can adjust the settings on our dreaded fire stick. Cheers!

Ironically every time we come to Puerto we lose weight. As much as we eat, we are so much more active around here so maybe it's the other way around 😉😉

@@EatBailaTravel it was 2nd hand ptsd (My reaction) lol a fellow musician once in the lovely green tortoise hostel in San Francisco had his stolen from a locked locker under his bunk. so - tossing em down and running out - triggered me. I am sure there are many wonderful hostels where you can let your guard down and I am glad you found one.
