EASY Watermark & Copyright symbol on photos & metadata: Online or Photoshop CS5
Ғылым және технология
www.langellphotography.com
Every person who shares their photographs electronically or via print should watermark their images and include a copyright © symbol. There are MANY methods of doing so using photo editing software (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom, Elements, Gimp, PaintShop, etc.) and sometimes it can get overwhelming--especially for the beginner photographer.
I have put together easy steps for adding your name and a watermark, including copyright symbol, to your images--as well as how to scale them for web display. I will also show you one method for adding your copyright information to the metadata of the image file.
Watermarking and including a copyright symbol on your images may not dissuade every person from collecting or using your images without your permission, but it will notify them that they have an owner (you) and reduce the likelihood of image theft.

Hello Lisa, Thank you so much, it very clear tutorial and your narration is very neat and voice clarity is great. I tried so many videos now but the narration and voice clarity were very bad though which I couldn't understand. And your video is fifth video I am trying. Now I am going to try with my image.

Thanks Lisa, Great tutorial !
Thank you so much, I was able to add copy right on my photos....
Nice instructions. How about doing one using Actions? That's how I put my watermark on them. This saves time in post production.
Great video! This really helped. Thanks a lot!
You made my day! Thank you SO much! :) :)
Yes, Actions are great---but I was trying to keep this as simple "getting started" video for now. I'll look at doing actions in a future one!
Lisa. Excellent video. Thank You. Is there a way of making a copyright template in PS CC to add to every image that is processed?
Joe, though that (may) prevent someone from using it for large enlargements, it will not prevent them from stealing the image you took---or using it for small prints or online marketing, etc. When you don't include metadata AND watermarking across your image, you could easily have that image copied, used elsewhere, and no one can trace it back to you. Read the newly acted, "Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act" in Britain, for example. Don't chance not watermarking and adding metadata!
Hi Alfie, You can always type (c) on a Word document---and it will auto-convert to the Copyright symbol. Then, copy/paste that into your Photoshop/editing app!
Thank you!!
Hi there Lisa, thanks very much. We tried it on a keypad and it works perfectly, but how do we do it on a laptop - Dell? I agree with the others your video is very easy to follow.
helpful, thank you
Thank you........
Kalaoy, Thank you very much!!!
hi, good video, good explanation. I was wondering maybe can you do a video explaining about copyright. When at the end filling out details about copyright status is there any true legality on copyrighting pictures and videos or music or do you need to register somewhere properly. thanks
Hi, I would like to know how do you add an image/logo to go with a text watermark ?. What I mean by this is, I have seen photogs have a text watermark but beside that or around it they may have like a silhouette or a bird or a bird done in tribal, that kind of thing. That way you have your name in text but also have an image, so how or where do you get or do those ?.
Hi Lisa thanks for this tutorial. just a quick question, is it ok, if i want to water mark my pictures that i havent really copy righted with the copyright companies. but i know they r taken by me.
you're welcome
Hmm, Hello, im 16, im trying to make a Logo thing for my photo's. you know how yours is with the bird looking thing? I can't think of a thing to do. I was wondering if you could suggest something. :) and thank you for this video.
Hi Sempei58, I am not qualified to give Copyright advice, as there are many legal implications and it varies by country. That said, the symbol notifies that (in the USA) the image rights are owned by someone else (i.e., you.) Registering your images with the US Copyright Office is a separate process that gives you greater protections and standing should you have a claim with someone who used your images illegally. Regardless, you still hold the copyright unless you waive it.
Cassie, I hope you got my email response many months ago.....but let me know if you didn't and I'll resend!

langellphotography thank you for your reply .. I would like to share my photos with you . I am a street photographer from India . :-) !
Hi Nomusa, I am not a lawyer, but I see no reason why you shouldn't watermark your images and clearly indicate that they are yours.
for me not working alt+0169 why?

Hello Arturs, I can't speak to why it wouldn't work on your computer, but a backup plan if you can't troubleshoot why it's not working is to open a Word document, and type (C) exactly as you see it (a C in parenthesis). It will turn into the copyright symbol when you hit the space bar. Copy the symbol and then paste it into your text box in Photoshop. That will work! You can change the color and font sizes as needed.)
