I love how you take the "worry" out of art!
I look forward to every one of your videos and paintings. Why? Because of your unique talent, funny personality and all the background noises of the farm animals, birds, cats, dogs, weather, and inane bantering. You are very entertaining and even though you don’t teach, I learn from you! Thanks for being so genuine.

Agree to everything you wrote. My favs are arleebean mind of watercolour but Diane is my top top top fav. Talented, inspirational humorous with farmyard noises and general rambling which are always useful information!
You’re thoughts about transparency in watercolours versus Kuratake opaque paints are so apt; I had the misfortune (?) to spend several residential watercolour holidays having transparent paint dinned into me. The tutor actually removed any opaque colours from the attendees. It honestly caused me so many doubts about carrying on. Listening to you is a complete breath of fresh air. Thank you so much!

That almost sounds like the residential course I went on! The one where the tutor was so awful I complained to the management and demanded a refund! That man should have been locked in a darkened room, not allowed to torture innocent women!
I listen to YOU every night. I love listening to what you talk about, your voice , and beautiful accent. I’ve learned so much before I go to sleep, and wake up excited about painting! You’re so down to earth, and have a delightful sense of humor!

We’ve had the wettest and most depressing winter here in France that I can ever remember. Looking forward to the summer as never before!
Diane, you really have the kind of voice a podcast would die for! I love your stories!!
First, thank you for the tutorial, it was fun. And I enjoy your chatting and your humor. I live in Maine (east coast of USA) and thought I’d let you know that since the pandemic we have seen a very different product supply situation than we are used to. There were times when large grocery stores had no toilet paper, until a fellow starting up a new paper mill decided to manufacture toilet paper to help us out. It often felt like what I imagine life to be like in Russia - waiting in lines to buy toilet paper was just so weird. The pandemic has given us quite a reveal of greed and hoarding, theft of ppp stimulus money, and the fragility of our supply line. For a very long time most of us had no US source for face masks, so we made our own. Businesses such as appliance retailers, and car dealerships are beginning to get more product. I’ve been waiting almost three years to buy a new stove/oven unit. A friend had to wait about six months for a car. For about three years the greater area car dealership lots have been virtually empty. It is getting better, but it seems like we’ll never get back to “normal”. Now that product is becoming more available the prices make it unaffordable for many of us 98 percenters. I can’t speak for other parts of the US but I doubt it was very different. Amazon was slated to layoff about 10,000 workers recently, so its delivery might still be a bit compromised. And all those employees have to find new jobs. Also, thanks for mentioning the Japanese brushes. I’m going to look into them, possibly buy a few. I don’t mind waiting, in fact, having to wait can make the purchase more exciting.

Wow, that’s very interesting. Strange things have been happening here these last three years too, complicated also by Brexit, which has made our links between France and England much weaker. Prices have gone up a lot and Amazon.fr has some extraordinary prices - thousands of euros for things that ought to cost a few euros - makes me think there is cocaine in the package! Glad you are interested in the Drawell brushes. They are really good!

Hi Carol and thanks so much for your lovely comments. I’m so glad you are finding the tutorials helpful. Believe me, we all need to look at other people’s work in order to create our own, so don’t feel you aren’t a natural artist! I’m not either, I just have been working at it for longer perhaps! Have fun, that’s the main thing, and please don’t hesitate to sell or give away anything you create from a tutorial of mine. Copyright free!!
I can't wait to give these adorable trees a try! ❤
I understand! I don’t want to be cold anymore either!
I believe it is important for people to know that all of Canada, as implied, is not freezing cold all of the time and we do have seasons here…..lovely seasons with steaming hot days, cool, breezy days, colourful Autumns and, yes, cold ones too. We are currently plagued by wildfires…the worst in Nova Scotia’s history. To group an entire country is not very informative, Diane. Still, I love your channel and your tutorials. You are very talented and I love that you have animals in your life.
I adore your dry British humor 🫠

The garden of trees are lovely. Such a variety of leaf/branch structure. All art builds on past art, doodle, zentangle, mark making, neurographic, so many names for variations of the same themes. Love how you mix them in your own unique way. Definitely working on trees today. The peaceful colors go well with the lacey branches and muted circles and lines of the deconstructed scene. Thank you.

I love your ramblings Diane. Watching your videos is like having a neighbor come over for tea. I think the paper makes all the difference. It will determine how much water you can use. If you use less water say for guoche, you can a paper with more pulp. Cotton paper holds much more water for watercolors. It doesn't dry as fast. I have out of desperation, washed out a 'bad' painting. I figured its 100% cotton, I should be able to rinse it out very carefully. It worked. I have also been looking into making my own cotton paper.
I am only 8 minutes into the video and I had to stop and comment. I feel I have so much in common , I am 68, hubs has birthday Tuesday, get surprised every time I look at my hands, love dogs and cats, would adopt everything if able, love the country and love watching your videos! Diane, I love this! It's so unique and each tree adorned so creatively. I love them all, and love that you added in the birds. This painting can work for so many things just by changing up the themes. You've inspired me to create one for all the seasons. They would look so pretty sitting on the fireplace mantel or framed on the wall. I love hearing your stories, many are so relatable, like the husband snore :) As far as a recommendation on a calming KZread channel to relax and unwind with, you're the star and best story teller I know. Hi Carolyn and thanks for your as always lovely comments! Great idea to use the design for all the seasons. Just changing the colors and increasing the leaves and adding floral elements would make a big difference, and maybe I’ll take that on and revisit it in Spring, Summer and Winter! I absolutely never listen to my own videos, and I’m often surprised when people tell me what I’ve said, as the whole thing is done completely off the cuff (as you can no doubt tell!) and almost like in a hypnotic state! You’re probably right, it would almost certainly put me to sleep to listen to myself!

This is quite nice. I am inspired to it create one of my own. I was born and lived up North most of my life. When I retired, I moved to Florida. Every day I wake up to beautiful weather. It has been a number of years and don't miss the bitter cold weather at all. As it turned out, my move was in early fall, so my body had time to acclimate to the warmer weather by to time the summer came around. Although it does take 2 to 3 years to fully acclimate to the climate. The only thing I do miss is watching the leaves turn in the fall. Every fall I paint leaves.

Oh Gosh Diane.I listen to you! I love your voice and chatter and you are so interesting! And you're funny and very wise. ;-)
Dear, dear, Diane, It’s okay to complain about the weather!! I’m a California girl (72 year old for a few more days!) transplanted into Colorado! This year is the weirdest in terms of weather here! Usually it snows and then, since we are at a high altitude near Denver, the snow simply evaporates and the skies are blue. BUT THIS SEASON, it’s been so cold that the snow came and is just staying and more cold and snow is coming! Yikes! The snow removal man has just given up and no one can find him!! And yes, I have heard the same thing about recycling here, and also about the mountains of clothing in Africa! At least our international news agree! I’m in love with the idea of living on a small ranch/farm especially if I had a daughter to help! My son, very sweet, wouldn’t know the front from the back of a goat!! Still I dream! Now mostly about moving back to a warmer climate! So if you want to paint anything that reminds us of sunshine and warmth, then, good on you!! You are such a sweetheart, no wonder your doctor strokes your hand! My doctor moved to New Zealand!! Help! Our loss is their gain as she was awesome!! See what happens near age 73, you start rambling!!😉

Hi Donna and thanks so much for your lovely little ramble! I really appreciate your kind comments and your taste of Colorado! What crazy weather we are all having! So glad you enjoy the channel and the videos, sending hugs!
I soo enjoyed your comments and narrative today-- was so interesting and educational- hearing what was happening in your life. It fascinates me to learn vicariously about others' life experiences. Today your narrative was quite a bonus of getting to know you too. A rich life of experiences, and your perspective was so relaxed and casual. Enjoyed 'getting to know' one of my favorite role model artists! Today's tree exercise was another helpful instruction in creative spontaneity. Very helpful for the new and not-very confident water color artist. I've learned so much from your very easy going approach to painting, and your wealth of practical knowledge and experience. Thanks for sharing your talents, and your wonderful insightful philosophy. And your dry and sly sense of humor is often a highlight. " A brush without a point is pointless". Haha! 😉

Thanks so much Chris, I just re listened to that one myself and had no idea I’d been rambling so much! I go into a kind of trance when I’m painting sometimes! Thanks again xxx
Thank you for such a soothing tutorial. You make painting look so easy.❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much 😀
For me it’s like cake decorating. I loved to embellish my cakes with dots, dashes, splashes from a brush….. so many of the things you do to your paintings are similar to what I did piping on my cakes. Similar and so different. So fun for me. Thank you.

You’re so welcome Sherry, and that’s what I’m here for, so glad you are enjoying the channel and the painting - it’s just such a relief when you have a brush in your hand !!
I love listening to you!! I have been under the weather with a migraine these last few days and your voice is so soothing….better than music which is what I tend to listen to. I have learned so much from you! You have inspired me…I have even thought of moving to France 😍 The rooster crowing to be heard by everyone, and the pitter patter of your dogs feet as he scurries across the studio floor. You have my dream studio!! Don’t ever let anyone tell you you are doing it wrong because they will be wrong!!

I am your age. The older way of taking blood pressure is more correct. While in the hospital for hip replacement recently, one nurse checked on both type of machines. The wrist and newer ones was 10-20 points higher.
The weather in eastern Canada has been an absolute roller coaster this winter. Monday, we had a lovely snowstorm that wasn’t too heavy but left us with just the right amount of snow to play in. I had a beautiful afternoon of snowshoeing in the woods on Wednesday. It was gorgeous and sunny and just below freezing and there was loads of pretty snow on the trees. Yesterday, the temperature shot up to 9C and we had pouring rain for hours. We got 30-40mm of rain in about 6hrs. Last night the temperature dropped to-10C and now everything is frozen.
