Easy visco firework fuse machine

www.makingfireworkfuse.blogspot.com
**Plans now available!**
Following the success of the first visco fuse machine eBook featured on my site, I wanted to go back to the fundamentals and create a design that truly everyone can make!
No drills, saws, or fancy hardware needed! This design takes the most basic of household materials and tools and allows you to create a fully functioning visco fuse machine!
One of the best pieces of feedback I received about the first design was how simple and encouraging it was for beginners. I wanted to build on this strength and create a design that someone without so much as a tool set, let alone a workshop, would be able to replicate. You can make the whole thing using only the equipment listed below, most of which can be found in a pencil case!
Equipment list
PVA glue
Craft knife (+cutting matt if possible)
Ruler
Pen/pencil
Scissors
Paper clip
Candle
Cocktail sticks
Lighter/candle
Compass
Materials list
Small apple boxes x2
Cardboard tube (from cling film/aluminium foil etc.) x1
Cereal boxes x2
500ml plastic Dr Pepper bottles x2
A4 paper x1
Foam pizza base x4
Wooden BBQ skewers x6
Large rubber bands x2 (16cm, 3mm in width)
This eBook contains over 5000 words and 69 pictures across 25 pages, which may sound like a lot for a simple project, but that’s because every step is broken down and explained thoroughly to make the build as easy as possible. The whole model could easily be made in a day and with materials you probably already have and without the need for specialised tools.

+mark janzen Hi, thanks for the kind comment, much appreciated! As it happens I’ve been thinking about doing a ball mill project, I’ll be sure to post a video when I do. Would be good to see a video of your machine if you have one? All the best.

Hi Jozsef. I see that you purchased the plans a little over half an hour ago, I’m amazed you made the model so quickly! In order to help you I need a little more information please. Do you mean that the powder falls out during the weaving process, or when you cut the fuse off of the model? Have you coated the fuse in a nitrocellulose lacquer?

  • @PYROGENT

    @PYROGENT

Hi Jozsef, oh I understand now! Powder falling out during the weaving process is the most common problem when making visco fuse. To stop the powder falling out you must have many factors set up correctly - the rotation speed of the dies (the platforms holding the threads), the draw rate of the threads through the model, the speed and amount of powder that is fed into the threads and all of this must remain consistent. If not, then the thread weave too loosely, dropping powder, or too tightly, squeezing the powder out between the threads. Thank you for the link you provided, it shows that the weaving process is not even and consistent in that design, as can be seen by the second set of (grey) threads, which are not uniformly wrapped around the first set of black looking threads. This causes gaps where powder can fall out, and this is likely to be happening with the first set of threads also. The size of the powder holes in my design are stated in the eBook. I hope this helps.

Sad news here in the world of fireworks: I received info from a pyrowebsite that China put out a ban not to export some specialty items like Flying Fish Fuse! And there's those like me who use it in home made aerial shells. I hope that someone here on KZread would see what I posted here and set up a machine shop for making Flying fish fuse !!!!!! Any takers?

Thanks for your comment Robert. This is a shame, but with the right composition you could make your own quite easily as the fuse weaving process is the same. I've made basic flying fish fuse using my simple fuse weaving machines (I made a quick video about them on my channel). The legality of making and shipping fuse for sale is far more comlicated than learning to make your own... and you'll never run out again! Best wishes.

+KmanMeteor Hello, thank you for your interest. The old plans are for a machine which is more robust and this latest model is intended to give people the option for an easy build - it doesn't replace the old design but instead it gives people different options, so I won't be giving away the original plans I'm afraid.

@@PYROGENT Another problem is that I have imitated one according to the shape of the machine you made. The upper and lower turntables made of half-cut plastic bottles are not installed on a vertical plane. They are a little biased. That will not affect it.
