My roommates pomsky picked this up on his own without any training, pretty incredible honestly. He will jump into your arms when you ask for a hug. We never had to train with toys or treats, he just knew somehow from us opening our arms.

@@DoggyU I tried a little bit today with my 51 pound dog. She was eager to jump up but I need to work on my catching skills lol I have a 6 month old aussie who might be easier to catch... so I think I'll try with him instead or at least until I can get better at catching a larger dog... 😅

Something that might help you if your dog is a bit intimidated by the wall sit level of jumping like mine was. I told her to sit next to me and then before telling her to "jump up" I pushed her around a tiny bit. That's one of the ways we play and it got her energy up so when I gave the command she bounded right up on my legs 😂

for smaller dogs, can they launch from whatever size "podium" they can manage ? ( thinking cavalier....she might find it challenging to jump ALL the way up).....maybe I'll be surprised later.....we haven't tried yet....

@@indigofremont haha totally get that! Not all tricks are for all dogs. My other dog is a little over 50 lbs. I tend to do rebounds with him and back-stalls but not this trick because he doesn't like being picked up. But there's plenty of other tricks a 50 lb dog can do for sure! @@DoggyU Nope, but I'll definitely put that on the list! My dog hasn't had a lot of proper training in the past, but I'm trying to teach him new tricks because I've read that it helps stave off mental decline. I'm afraid I'm not the best teacher, we are kind of learning at the same time. But he's learned to roll over (except that, since he always started from "down", he now rolls over any time I tell him down, so I have to work on that....) Thanks for your replies. :D

Gayle Furlong, a lot of dog sport people teach this. Now that I've got a dog that is a 'catchable' size, I going to train it. My dog jumps on people, but often by teaching things like this, they will learn NOT to jump because they are waiting for the correct cue. Teaching a dog to bark on command will actually help them not to bark when you don't want them too.
