I'm back to coaching since pre-pandemic and I have been struggling to get my players to understand this concept. This just kicked my basketball brain back into alignment. Thanks.

Any tips for practicing this

@@sheldonbeiler1028 Since 8 rules is a lot to focus on, I'd focus on a group of them at a time then gradually add them together. It is important they understand the concepts of cut after screen and following the ball.

Always helpful to teach youngsters to jump towards ball on defense .run a 4 0n 4 shell 2 guard front 2 wings freethrow extended. Rotate ball around horn. Teach pistol positions. Every pass, jump towards ball.weakside help ALL THE WAY into paint. From there teach dribble penetration and help recovery..I found this drill quickest for kids to pick up

Yo I’m right there. I go from being THE COACH to being just a coach. I’ve been out of touch. But I’m here searching for it at all aspects of the game again
Love the quick insight
Brilliant and simple, you must be a teacher, lol.... Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Peace
This was very helpful, thank you
This is great perspective
Much needed! Thank u..
Great breakdown
Thanks coach
Very helpful 👍
I like everything except the drive left move left. I would say drive left move right and look for 5 coming backside. Then if nothing is there, 3 can continue to the left corner and 5 pop back to the right corner. Drive left move left is a lot of extra running for 3 to go back to the right corner and also 1 position coming all the way around to the top wing to fill in and also running into 3 when they're both cutting to the same block!?
waht software do you use to make the videos plays , also thank you for the video help me teach my team alot
What are some drills for this motion 5 out?
Weve put in ball screens but the Coach designates who can ball screen, usually the big so no or 1 ball screener only
Is there a video about options off this 5 out motion? What about 4 out?
Can provide a link to the individual drills? Or provide an email where you can be contacted?

Quick question. With the drive left move left vice versa. Does the cutter and the driver ever get in a situation where they run into eachother, where the cutter impedes the driving lane of the driver?
@anthonyfoster4015

That can happen if the cutter doesn't clear the driving lane in time. If the cutter was originally in the corner but can't move left fast enough, they can A.) take a step forward to the short corner, or B.) wait until the driver goes by & run behind the driver.
What’s the rebounding principals behind that since everyone is out do you have 2 crash and 2 get back?

Don’t know bout your team but my coach has 4 players crash and a fullback that runs in transition no and doesn’t get the rebound
Isn’t there a rule that if you’re overplayed and one pass away it’s an automatic backdoor cut?
@paulleclaire2141

Yes, easiest way to teach it is, if defense steps over 3 pt line, backcut. Overplayed leaves room for player interpretation
A great coach can turn an average team to a playoff team. A great coach with great players can turn a playoff team to a finals team
Only think I don't like about the 5 out is it takes my bigger guys away from the basket for post play and rebounds. How do you remedy that with the 5 out principle??

I work a lot in-season on Defensive Transition. We drill Sending 4 on every shot and having a "Get Back" to Halfcourt.

@@danhill150 I'm not following where the taller kid will go. Are you saying the drill sends 4 to the boards and one goes to the backcourt to guard the fast break/get a kick-out from the offensive rebound?
@danhill150

@@reachdaapex I send one back to defend transition. It's worked for us (haven't needed the traditional 2 yet). In the past we've ran a lot of 2-3, so one of my guards was always my "get back," this year we can do more man, so we've been working on one of the top spots getting back regardless who it is.

When your bigs are in the action cutting to the basket you can just turn it into a post up. If it's not there they pass back out and go fill.
Here after Bellarmine beat Louisville. They seem to have this mastered.

They have mastered it, yes, and I don't believe there is anyone even close. If you haven't seen this video, it's a fantastic introduction to these concepts at a very advanced stage. Fun basketball for sure! kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmaIlsSDmJScZco.html
Why is it called MOTION?
@BrennonBruhhh
2 жыл бұрын
It’s called motion because the play is called during the game
@jasonroane2059

because the everyone in the offense is in constant motion when its done correctly
The problem I have is none of my players can shoot from the perimeter

Motion Offense is great for teams that can't hit perimeter shots because so much of the play design is heading towards the rim.

while helping to build shooting form and confidence from close, and mid-range, and further. Focus on them making layups. including how to get offensive rebounds for short range putbacks. Make sure they at least know how to pass and catch, and do simple jumpstops and pivoting.

If no threat from perimeter shots, a tighter zone defense easily clogs cuts and traps those trying to penerate. If can shoot, need 2+ pass ball movement to spread defense.
