EASY Stashbusting Quilt! Use Up Those Leftover Jelly Roll Strips! | BONUS Setting on Point Tips!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here’s how to do it:
Start with a 5 1/2” square, add a 2 1/2” strip to each side, then another 2 1/2” strip to the remaining 2 sides. Voilà! An instant 9 1/2” block! Set them side by side with or without sashing or set on point like I did. If you do want to set it on point, the Border squares will be 14 3/4” and later cut into triangles from corner to corner. Then the Corner squares will be 7 5/8” and later cut into halves. In this video I show you how it’s done. Enjoy!

I really liked the quilt top you made. Yes, I see what you’re saying about needing more contrast to make the block stand out, but I liked what you did. A lot! More than the first option you offered. Guess the bright bright stuff is not my vibe. You did a great job and whether a table topper or a baby quilt, someone will love it!!!

I like this idea of using squares and 2 1/2" strips from my stash. Even if I need to buy 3 yards of background fabric, I can at least use up strips. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you Sheri! You just gave me an idea of how I can use the flannel strips taking up space in one of my stash bins! Adding it to the “agenda.” 😁

I love the softness of colors in the first quilt, it reminds me of a garden path. The bright solid colors look great with that colorful “bird of paradise” fabric.
Very nice use of quick jelly roll quilt!

I didn’t think I would like your background fabric with your chosen strips at first, but when I saw it hanging up, I really liked it! I think a pieced border of your leftover strips would really be pretty! What about a small inner border of white first? I don’t know! I am just thinking and imagining! I enjoyed your video!

Bonjour Madame. Pour ma part je trouve très bien votre assortiment de couleurs, c’est paisible. Et merci pour ce rappel de bloc simple, rapide et qui fait de l’effet ! Régine 🇫🇷🍂🍁
I actually like the fabric and strips you put in the quilt :) yes, it might be a little muted, but it looks really nice. Elegant, even. Super cute and easy pattern idea.
I like it set on point and it truly isn't hard to do. It's simply sewing it together differently. Thanks for sharing this. I have a lot of strips that I can use with this pattern!

Not yet!
I love this quilt. I had a bit of a hard time following once you got to the end and started adding pieces. I am wondering if there is a pattern with instructions, I could get. I just barely found your channel. I find myself watching everyone sew on You tube, and I don't get as much sewing done. I am a beginner quilter. I have only made a few small 45X39 quilts for toddlers. They are just squares with a border around them. NOthing fancy. I would like to move up a notch and try something a little more challenging. Thanks for the tutorial.

It’s briefly stated in the description box of that video. I don’t have a full on pattern with illustrations. To get to the description box, touch where it says “more…” the first paragraph or so has the measurements for the side pieces. If you follow that along with the video, you should be able to get the same result. I hope that helps!
I need to finish a quilt top started by my grandma who has passed. What is the formula for calculating the size of the triangles?
@lessonslearnt5966
8 ай бұрын
For the border triangles, you take your block size (this one was 9 1/2”) and multiply by 1.414, then round up to the nearest inch (13.433 = 14) then add 3/4” (14.75).That will be the size of the squares you will cut into fourths. For the four corners, take your block size and multiply by .707, round up to the nearest inch (6.7165 = 7) then add 3/4” (7.75). These 2 squares will be cut in half for the 4 corners. This gives plenty of extra. When in doubt, just make the squares extra big.

@@lessonslearnt5966can you add that to a community post for your channel to make it easier to find. Many will appreciate your help
Yeah, not enough contrast, would have gone better with the large dark strips. Oh well. Done is better. You could do a potato chip block, or 4 1/2", rail fence variant with 2 strips each, frame 4- patch centres, or do 16 patch, or 36 patch with squares. You could do log cabin with the full width. Use the same narrow widths on a narrower border, just on one side. Cut hst's without one rabbit ear, in pairs to end up 2 1/2" square, Right sides together, and ready to sew. You could use strip sets, you just have to decide? You could cut lengths, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12, with a half inch on each, and sew leaders and enders? A bonus block here and there all adds up. Not all blocks need to be the same layout, mix 'em all up, just end up the same size, so they all fit together. Try out a variety. Do you want a sampler quilt to preserve memories of special quilts you have made, for great folk? Could be a good quilt to snuggle under, read a book, plan new quilts, and think of the folk, who have made your life so great. I sometimes do an extra block at the time, to put in one of those. Are there any blocks you haven't done, that you want to try? I haven't done a card trick yet. Get out all those hard blocks you decided one was enough of, will a frame get them to your set size? A scrappy sew along? Do you have a beautiful big print to use as a centre? Sounds like you are in for a lot of fun.
Just wondering what thread are you using.

You have to get that separate from a company called Sew Steady. They ask what table and machine you have and make it for you.
Do you set your seams before pressing to the side or open?
@lessonslearnt5966

I do not. I also don’t use any precision glues on my seams. I find that those extra steps are not worth it in the end. I do use clappers though, but even that, not consistently.
