Easy Shoe Making: How to Make Leather Shoes With SneakerKit

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Shoe making has been on my mind for many years now. After finding out that making shoes with the Goodyear construction of Blake stitch method is too difficult for a beginner I Googled around to look for an easy way to make shoes. On Kickstarter I found a kit to make sneakers from leather: SneakerKit. After thinking about buying this for 1 minute, I ordered one of these shoe making kits online. In this video I will be reviewing the sneaker making process and show you how to make shoes using this wonderful kit. I even got myself a nice new brown dyed veg tan leather hide. Have fun watching this leather working and shoe making video!
You can find SneakerKit on www.sneakerkit.eu/
And the template on

    I really enjoyed the video Tony thanks for posting I am handicapped due to a Traumatic Brain Injury and I wear a leg brace on oonly one leg to walk using a cane as well the shoe on that leg would be nice to have in a larger size to go over the brace but still match the other shoe style that’s why I’m interested in this process also the styles you had in the thumbnail struck me as a good looking shoe or Sneaker and it seams like I could easily adapt the included patterns to meet my needs for the shoe IMO the company should Sposor you due to your good explanations and video abilities

    Hi Craig, thanks for watching and the elaborate comment. So sorry to hear you are handicapped as a result of brain injury. I guess if you explain your story to SneakerKit, they might be able to provide you with two shoes of different sizes, who knows... Glad you liked the video! SneakerKit actually provided me with another kit free of charge. I've made another video of that one quite recently. Cheers!

    Get project! Looks great. I'd suggest e6000 industrial glue for crafts. You can get nozzles that should allow you to get in between the upper, lower, and the stitching. It's similar, if not stronger to shoe goo, which is a glue people use in shoe repair

    Hi! awesome video! what is the difference between shoes made with lasts and shoes made like this? is there a reason these are made without lasts?

  • @TonyNeedsHobbies

    @TonyNeedsHobbies

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, Olivia! One of the differences is that a lasted shoe holds it's shape because it's formed to the shape of the last. These shoes only "hold" their shape because the flexible leather is stitched to the sole. Lasting a shoe is much more difficult but gives a more durable result. On the flip side, shoes like these can literally be made by anyone, as you can see in the video 😃 Cheers!

    Hi Ahmed, Thanks for the nice feedback! To answer your question: yes, the instructions in the kit mention to print it on A4 at 100% scaling so that's what I did. There is a small scale on the patterns to confirm with a ruler that you've printed it in the correct size. Good luck with it!

    @@TonyNeedsHobbies Leather boots in Florida sell for $200 to $300. This is a step up from gardening. Mr. Rodriguez in Honduras sold shoes & clothes on the streets of Honduras when my grandpa met him. Then he sold saddles for horses, boots, leather hats, and machete covers, at his store. His wife was a seamstress. They sold school uniforms & shoes. They bought a farm and bought and sold cows. In the 1980s they planted African Palm trees. The cow farmers laughed at them because cows are sold yearly and the African Palm had to wait 7 years to grow. 5 years later the Rodriguez were like kings in Honduras. Now everyone that owns a farm plants African Palms. The Rodriguez own a gas station. They have a restaurant in the airport. The son that's a chemist has a bean factory. The cow doctor son bought Caterpillar machines and paves the streets for the cities in Honduras. I could build barn door hurricane shutters, but here in Florida I am surrounded by "employee mentality" people. Nobody has a vision. I need a helper to build the barn door shutters. I have to pay my helper $20 per hour and they put in only the minimum effort. As a shoemaker I can make shoes on my own and sell them. Then I'll have the money to pay my helper to help me build barn door shutters. As a gardener I do earn money cutting grass, but it's so hot here that I have to take a helper with me because I'm too old to cut grass by myself. In Honduras nobody likes canned food. The chemist put the beans and juices into ziplock type of bags. They are sealed. One has to cut them open. LOL! The chemist told me that he uses NASA Technology and that the astronauts could take his products to the moon. I was a boy in Chicago, Illinois when he stayed 2 days at my mom's house. Years later his oldest sister introduced me to my girlfriend. I have 2 kids with my girlfriend. :) Have you read Tolstoy's 2 stories about shoemakers? One is called Martin The Shoemaker. The videos are on KZread. They are excellent short stories & adapted for kids. Keep being a leader, Tony. Thank you. Also my poor internet friends in Africa, Vietnam, Honduras, etc can get rich. I'll eventually just send them a shoemaking kit.

    Hi Sarah, I have some new thoughts on the process which I will publish in one of my future videos. Don't think gluing is necessary and it will be difficult without lasting the shoes. If you stitch well, the thread will properly hold the shoe made with this kit together and you don't run the risk of messing up the leather. Have fun making your pair!

    That is interesting. I'm preparing a new pair and want to make some improvements. You're telling me that trying to glue the sole to the upper isn't worth it since it doesn't improve the strength. Do I understand that correctly? Gluing without spilling and ruining the leather will be a hastle since this process doesn't utilize lasts - so it would be benificial if it doesn't add any benefit, then I can just forget about it. Also many thanks for pointing me tp Trenton and Heath - I will check them out! Cheers!

    @@TonyNeedsHobbies for this kit not really. If you were doing traditional shoe making with a last and everything glue is needed for certain parts of the process, but the type of stitch they have you doing which is a modified version of a Saddler's stitch, is pretty much one of the strongest stiches you can use. The benefit of the glue on this kit would he like an extra set of hands, it would hold the leather in place along the stitch line, but you'd have to make sure you lined up all the holes properly before hand. The kits were thought up so you wouldn't need glue seeing as they give you marks to line up your stitches. You did a great job with the shoes BTW they look cool No problem.
