Easy Scratch Built Miniature Fire escape and Ladders for Wargaming Terrain Buildings.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This wargaming terrain tutorial today covers how to add some quick and easy scratch built fire escapes and ladders to miniature buildings. For this project I found some great new materials at the hardware store that should be easily available, and will come in handy for lots of future projects for the gaming tabletop. This build is an optional extra to the Abandoned Building we crafted this week • Abandoned Building for... , and can also be adapted for lots of different ideas going forward.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to check out the final update on the abandoned building tutorial. You can view the main build here kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2Sjp7yGoJzZn5c.html for the building itself. This was a really fun build and I'm stoked with the result. If you have any questions about the build, just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Cheers.

I must remember to pick up some of that gutter guard, next time I'm at the hardware store. Seems very useful!

It has some uses for sure, this one for the guard rails was surprisingly effective :) . Thanks for watching mate.

Oh, nice build. The only thing I would add would be a couple of ladder width strips of matchstick on the wall, so the ladder could be glued to that as a support rather than being flush against the brickwork.Minimal extra work, just a bit of extra 3 dimensionality. That plasterer's tape is a good find, cheaper and more versatile than the car body repair mesh sheets.

Thanks mate. I might actually add the matchsticks as you suggest, these still annoy me a bit as they are, and that sounds like a perfect solution.

The rails and fire escape add a lot of realism to the model. The techniques are great and I learned quite a bit from this tutorial. Thanks for sharing this.

I really like that there is someone else that looks for different uses for everyday things at the hardware store. Nice go, man.

Thanks mate. There's lots of great stuff out there to be repurposed, I'm always looking for new bits and pieces that will work as scale building materials. Glad you liked it and thanks for the comment.

You should see if you can make a Tommy Wiseau mini on Heroforge to stand by the stairway on the roof. "I did not hit her! I did naaht! Oh hai Mark!"

hardware stores here have a metal wire like your gutter guard here as well, used for small cages for rabbits etc.

Yeah I looked for a wire version of this locally and couldn't find it. A thin wire would probably even work better than this plastic stuff, but this gets you out of a jam I suppose. Thanks for watching.

Great stuff! This is basically the plastic version of hardware cloth, I must go and find some. There are times when this would be much easier to work with.

Man! You are killing it with these builds. That fire escape is awesome! I have to admit...I'm not sure i'm a fan of the fake bricks, lol. I think I would take the time to hand carve them up. Or, like many crazy people nowadays, actually lay them tiny bricks against cardboard/foam core! (seriously, those people are crazy people, lol!). Looking forward to more!

  • @RFDHobby

Thanks mate. Yeah, the printed bricks is a definite trade off, and I'm not completely sold on it either, except when comes to getting the scale just right. Looking at a realistic scale house brick for 28mm, they honestly would need to be in the 2-3mm size range, which is just crazy to think about doing individually. I do agree oversizing them and doing them individually gives a much more detailed and 3 dimensional look though, this is just an option for fast tracking some brick walls for builds I guess. Someone suggested printing them on matte 'textured' paper gives a much more realistic finish, rather than this semi gloss look going on here. Might have to try that and see. Thanks so much for the comment!
