Easy Mini Clay Dragons | Polymer Clay Tutorial

Hi guys, Clara here, and due to popular vote, today I’ll be showing you how to make your own easy mini clay dragons. I decided to create three variations using three colours of clay: green, blue, and pink.
If you want to see more polymer clay dragons, then good news! I plan on making my own mini army of dragons, so any suggestions on different dragon designs you want to see are always welcome!
For now, you can check out my previous polymer clay dragon tutorial. This dragon is larger and more detailed for crafters who want to test their abilities.

The type of clay used in this video is Sculpey, Craft, and Fimo. I use what’s available as most brands are similar to each other. Always follow your clay’s baking instructions on the package when making clay creations. I baked mine at 225 degrees in a preheated oven for 5-20 minutes. 5 minutes for pre-bakes and another 20 minutes for the final bake. Leave to cool the clay before handling them as they are still soft and handling them may leave dents.
Tip: When shaping the clay, if you find that you are leaving a lot of fingerprints, you can use a q-tip and acetone to wipe the surface of the clay clean.

I love all of them but my favorite parts are the curved tail and the triangular spikes but I think it would've been really cut as a chubby dragon. I would love to see more of this!

Your a natural!! Very clear, concise steps and timing were spot on!! I liked the 3rd one, but the second one gave me alligator vibes, and i like alligators so i was inspired that i could use yourtechnique for the belly with the faux scales. The wing tech ique was also great! Bring on the army!!😁😁😁😁

I love these so much! It instantly reminded me of Moriah Elizabeth and her characters Pickle and Derp. 😅 I think you should make a whole family of dragons. What type of clay did you use? I know of a brand of oven bake clay called Fimo and I've been eyeing up their unicorn kit for a while (I love unicorns). I'd like to do it just for fun. I hope you found making your dragons fun as well. ❤

I bought my nephew a box of polymer clay from Amazon. The box came with items to make jewelry and sets of earrings. it hsd 32 colors of clay, I just saw your video my nephew is 9 years old and loves Dinosaurs. there all cute and he will love doing this with me when he gets home. those round shape tools, I use different sizes to make designs on my finger nails. 😊that I brought at a beauty store.

Did you know that having an army of mini clay dragons to guard your treasures would be an apotropaic device? It’s defined as a device used to ward off evil spirits. I learned that in my art history class this semester!

I love this tutorial and want to make my own dragon army! the only problem is I dont have liquid Sculpey I'd there anything I can use instead?

You can skip liquid sculpey if you blend the clay around the added pieces and support the clay with tin foil while it bakes.

I'm not too familiar with ceramic clay but if you follow the instructions for the specific clay you have I think this sculpture is possible.

What’s all the tools name?

You can search silicone clay blending tool or ball pointed clay sculpting tool and should find the tools I use. Any craft store or even walmart/amazon has these types of tools.
What kind and brand of clay do you use??

I mostly use Scupley and Fimo. I tend to mix them depending on the colour I need.

@Milano Kahlil If Amazon is your only option then sure. I get mine at Michaels. They have coupons on their website/app that you can use to get the clay a little cheaper.

Could you try to make models out of blu tack? I made some Transformer models on my channel and I'd like to see somebody else do something like that too, just so I'm not the only one, maybe you could try to popularise it somehow? Asking for a friend

Blu tack like the sticky wall stuff? That'd be interesting. I could see myself making a video sculpting with unusual/alternative supplies like play dough, blu tack, homemade clay, etc. I'll mention you if/when I post that :)

Don't feel bad! I struggled with these dragons too. The only reason I was able to finish them was because I continually placed them in the freezer so the clay could harden and I wouldn't mess up the work I already did. Keep trying and I promise it'll get better :)
