    My old mentor used to tell me that perfection is the enemy of good. It's more productive to get the job done and then tweak the process. Folks really need to look at the schedules of their lives and then determine their expectations of their lawn. Excellent message my friend!

    Thanks brother. Amen, solid advice you were given. Couldn’t agree more. Too many bigger “influencers” online making it look easy but perhaps don’t have other responsibilities that the average homeowner does, namely with a family and kids. The day my lawn takes precedence over my kids is the day I ultimately lose. Thanks again man. Always appreciate ya!

    Good info! You are right that location will dictate the schedule. In South FL I start in March waking it up with a lower N. Higher N during the summer. Taper off with a lower N in the fall Oct-Nov. Put down total 4lb N per year on SA. We mow and water year round.

    Sorry in advance for the long comment! I see a lot of videos about filling in bare spots in the lawn: how to prepare the ground, how to germinate seed, etc. But it seems like everyone making these videos assumes you already know which type of grass you have in your lawn and, therefor, which type of grass seed to buy. I'm in Michigan and purchased a home last summer and am going to need to seed a bunch of bare spots (above ground pool removal, two trees fell over, wife wanted some shrubs gone) this fall. I know the types of grass that will grow well in my lawn but I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS ALREADY HERE and I want it to match! How can I figure this out without spending a bunch of money? Thanks for your channel and dedication to quality lawn care that doesn't break my wallet!

    Totally agree with you. Appreciate you supporting the channel. I hope you're finding value here. Have you tried a plant ID app or plant ID on IPhone? Sometimes those can help but aren't always reliable. Here's a video I did a couple years ago to help folks figure out what grass type they have: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eGiAxcFwlJbAYrQ.htmlsi=wmxzpbAl1k2zxPEZ See if that helps. You can also take a sample to an extension office nearby and they will usually help out with that. Thanks so much for watching.

  • @BudgetLawns

    @BudgetLawns

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching and the feedback. I don't think knowing their PH will help them near as much as encouraging them to mow more, water properly, and apply some N. Anything more than what they were doing will help significantly. If that doesn't work, then perhaps a soil test could help. I got into lawn care 7 years ago. Still haven't taken a soil test and my lawn is beautiful year in and year out just doing the things I mentioned. I respect your opinion though. Thanks again.

    I'm a Navy veteran, who has gone through the big "D" and I don't mean Dallas. My lawn went to hell in a handbasket during this time I because I didn't care about myself let alone my lawn so now I have a lot of weeds and stay in HOA jail. Since I can no longer afford a pro lawn treatment service I have to wing it. So in March I put down Scott's weed and feed & Spectracide cinch bug treatment, then in April I put down Milorganite. The lawn is nice and green but there are still "a lot" of weeds!! My question is, "Should I still follow your treatment calendar for St Augustine grass starting Memorial Weekend and if so should I use a weed & feed again or fertilizer only? Help a gal get out of HOA jail, any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Great video. I agree with everything you said ….but I have to question the recommendation to use the big box store to buy fertilizer. The 20-0-0 cited only has 8 lb N in the 40 lb bag which will be ~$2.80 per lb N at my Lowe’s, while a 32-0-8 50 lb bag at Site One has 16 lb N in it. Add in any sort of discount and the price per lb N is a buck cheaper even with a little iron and N stabilization (which are both questionable). At 40,000 sq ft mowable, it’s far better for my Budget Lawn to stay out of the big box store IMO.
