Easy FJ Cruiser LED Headlight Upgrade

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

While the FJ Cruiser is an epic and iconic off-roader it's factory headlights offer dismal light quality. In this video I upgrade the stock bulbs to a set of LED bulbs from Lasfit for an exceptional improvement in visibility. This video includes installation instructions and a side by side comparison driving with factory bulbs and LED.

Bought these lights based on your recommendation. I will let you know how they work out. However, you do not have to modify the rubber dust cover. The front plate of the light comes off. Take that off and snap that into the cars housing. Then slide the cap onto the light. The light can be installed just like you would install a halogen.

I wish I would have read your post an hour ago! I couldn't get that clip to snap in place because of the fan housing on the bulb, I monkeyed with it FOREVER, got frustrated and found this. I owe you a beer!!

Also, I suggest to everyone talking about on-coming traffic glare to adjust your headlights downward with a 12" extended Phillips. There is a hole just above the light kit where you can manually adjust the pitch of the beam. Hope that helps. (Overall, yes...I agree, these lights are super bright, but this trick may help)

You probably didn’t need to cut the rubber. The three prong tab removes and allows you to lock in, then put the rubber on, then twist the bulbs into place. At least mine did.

So, give those LED's a week or two of driving in the dark... let me know how often passersby flash their high beams at you... I have the LED's... they are not popular with oncoming traffic, but they do illuminate the night so much!

Thanks for the video - are you able to share an update? Do they blind oncoming cars? Did they last and are they still going strong? Love the videos, but sadly without an update and an odd extra step comments tell me aren't necessary, I'm not sure how to take this recommendation.

Hi Mike, Love your FJ videos! What are your thoughts now that you've had the Led headlights installed? Do the lights have a good cut-off?, or do you seem to blind oncoming traffic like a lot of the led`s on the market. Keep the FJ videos coming.

They make a plug and play option now that is an exact replacement for the OEM bulb (no wire). Any thought on those?

As much as I want to do this as well the problem is the stock headlights aren't designed for led's and will blind oncoming traffic. There's no "cut off" to the beam pattern. I'd say 1/3 of the cars that pass me are using led's with poor headlight design and I'm constantly being blinded, especially if there's an uneven grade between me and them.

  • @LonelyRavenProductio

That looks like monster glare for oncoming traffic...I notice no video or photos of "cut-off".

Anyone who puts LED bulbs in an improper housing can get bent. You can see better but everyone in the oncoming lane is screwed.

Nothing wrong with the leds themselves. The problem is that most lights aren't aimed correctly and it's not noticeable with traditional bulbs but down right dangerous with leds. Anyone that puts in the leds need to aim them.

You wasted money on these expensive LED lights. LED light bulbs in a light housing that was designed for a standard bulb will not work as well. LEDs do not emit light in a full 360 degree area like the stock bulbs do. Sure the LED bulbs themselves are a little bit more bright, but without the full 360 degree of light the reflector inside the light assembly does not work as well. Sure your headlights might seem brighter, but in reality they are brighter in just one direction. And lets not forget that LEDs with their blue or super white light is dangerous to oncoming traffic.

It’s his money. It’s worth money spend on Lasfit. Putting right type of led bulbs like Lasfit does retains the same beam pattern as oem halogen. And they are specifically designed for this headlight with automotive oem grade led chips. We rather have them upgrade with Lasfit led on our cars. Projector or reflector. And u do’t blind others, if u get the right ones.

@@toyotabrony Nope you be wrong here. "automotive grade LED chips" those do not exist, they scammed you out of your money. There are just LED chips. LEDs most definitely blind oncoming traffic, and now there is legislation happening to make super bright headlights illegal. If you need super bright LEDs to see at night, you should not be driving. You really need to go and research how light is emitted from LEDs. Then you will understand how much of a waste these are. And how OEM bulbs will produce more usable driving light. But hey, it is easy to separate a fool from his money.

@@aaroneaton4849 actually ur wrong. U gotta do a lot of research and see others do more testing. Trust me I do a lot of research. It’s more than just led chips. Some led bulbs with specific led chips make better tight control beam pattern. That’s a fact. The best beam pattern usually is ZES led chips, then we have CSP led chips, SMD, LMP, and Osram led chips. Those type of led chips that’s two sided, and thin center piece helps to retain the same beam pattern. And it truly is an automotive grade led chips. Look up the video on Headlight revolution, even Philips explains about the difference of which led chips work a lot better in projector and reflector headlights. Precision and alignment is the key. Look those up. I’ll prove u wrong. Me and my family are running with Lasfit led on our projector and reflector headlights. And we see much better and safer. Without blinding others. It’s been over a year and we have not experienced getting flashed by others at all. Get the right type of led bulbs, adjustable the beam pattern height, and adjust the orientation. And ur good. Led headlight bulbs are more than just glare and looks.
