I'm kind of astounded at how many people use coffee and acidic glues in their artwork. I really hate to see people's beautiful work ruined by acid or mold. People work so hard on their beautiful art journals. Some of them are stunning. It's just best to use PVA neutral glue instead of other glues. You can make your own home made Modge Podge by getting a PVA neutral glue and watering it down. Acidic glues like Elmer's will turn dark brown in a few years. I use PVA neutral non acidic glue because it will stay clear forever and won't oxidize. As for food, coffee can mold. Never, ever use a food product in your artwork or you can get mold into all your supplies. Then they will have to be thrown out and replaced or you will never get rid of the mold in your artwork. The only people I know who understand this have learned it in art school or university. I wish so much that there was more knowledge about acidic glues and food products molding artwork and art supplies. There needs to be a channel dedicated to nothing by art supplies and how to use them.

Thank you Tweety 💙 Can we just use Modge Podge or PVA based glue and Fogo the coffee or tea bags over my one ply napkin? The napkin already has structure, I don't know why I'd put tea bags over the top as I've seen on other channels 🤔 I appreciate the time you took to educate about our supplies 😊

You can add a little baking soda to any solution to increase the pH ( lower pH = more acid). If concerned, you can purchase inexpensive pH strips to get a rough idea of pH. Once a coffee solution is dry, it would be unlikely to mold. Any paper can mold under the right conditions. The amount of moisture that it takes to grow mold depends on the fungus. Musty smelling paper materials can be placed in a plastic bag with baking soda to help dry them out and remove the odor. Once they develop an actual mold, they will be stained and difficult to recover. Hope this helps.
