@@toddrhodes614 I had quit practising guitar 16-17 years ago and back then I mostly learned notes and playing regular chords. A year ago I started over and the first thing I practised was Nothing Else Matters lead guitar by Metallica. Had a nylon acoustic guitar with not enough frets to play the whole song so I bought an electric guitar to continue my practise. Nailing the parts that for me I find myself very difficult to play gives me a smile on my face. (With the original notes! Most guides I found from youtube were just dump simplified versions of that song.) Playing something as simple and stupid like these songs is tedius. That is why I quit playing guitar all those years ago. I gave up trying to strech my finger to hold a full bar.

I can't tell you how many times you made me smile during this quick lesson. All these simple songs and you broke it down so nicely and then when you put them back together playing them with some rhythm just makes me smile! Thanks Marty! 😄😁😁

There is huge importance in learning some of these basic tunes. Most people become obsessed with the fretting hand when learning and this road blocks enjoyment and progress. The real battle is with the strumming hand. Once you get the rhythm of songs right they sound so much better even if they are simple. From there anything is possible as you will always be picking up the guitar to play ! :-) .

Thanks - good advice.

@@daniellarson3068 I have always struggled with rythm, but I did improved a lot...Now I can play rythms I wouldnt believe I was capeable of few years ago - I thought, rythm is my weakness and thats my limitation, I cant improve it. So its really best not to say what you can or cannot do upfront, and not give yourself a hard time if you struggle with something. And my advice and one of the most important thing overall is - play together with the songs you are learning. Usually the drums guides you a lot and eventually you will just feel it. And if there are part you struggle with - just play some easier rythms there until you improve, so you can enjoy the whole song. And as with any learning, listen and listen and try and try, but give yourslef some breakes - you dont have to get the rythm in one sitting and usually, your uncoscious minds work during the breaks by itself. Sometimes it takes me days to actually get the rythms well (and with some songs, it took me years to be able to play them). So the best thing is looking for a tab with just the notes to play, and get the rythm from listening and playing along. Sorry if my english doesnt make sense somewhere

So agree as a high beginner. Strumming patterns the key
I've just bought a guitar and was just super confused on everything everyone online was trying to teach me, just saw this video and started doing the '3 5, 35, 3, 0' and now I'm so much more excited to learn now that I can do at least a couple (very basic lol) tunes. Thank you!

@@kevina3780 I'm 52 and tinkered with an acoustic for a few years but never really could get past being a beginner thinking my fretting hand would never develop the dexterity like if I learned when I was younger. I finally got fed up and started taking lessons about a year and a half ago and now I can't put my guitar down. I'm still mostly slow and sloppy but my teacher and wife are much nicer and tell me I'm sounding good. I'm way past where I ever thought I could be.
I've always said, it doesn't need to be complicated to be a good/great song. This video proves my point. I hope you do more of these type of videos.
This video is a perfect example of how some of the greatest most recognizable riffs of all time are really pretty simple. You don't have to be the greatest guitarist alive to come up with something that resonates with people. Keep it simple.

Simple to play is not the same as simple to create
I’ve been exclusively an acoustic guitar player forever but recently, someone asked me to play “Wild Thing” which I put on the back burner thinking oh well, I’ll just do it on my amped Taylor. In a moment of impulsivity, I ran out and got a Les Paul thinking if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right. With no idea of where to begin, I just looked at the guitar for a few days and realized it wasn’t going to just jump into my hands and play itself😂. So I turned to you, my “go to” when I want something new and here you were with this! My son is a professional musician in NYC and I can’t wait to blow his mind when he comes home and I play all these 😂😂😂! Thank you so much…you really are the best out here!
Marty, this is exactly what I need to give my daughter with the telecaster and her 1st chords and little scales. The guitar is new player friendly and your videos can be there when I am not. So Thank you and continued success!

Hey Marty, I am in my 60’s, and have always wanted to play the guitar. I’ve been looking for a starter lesson, and yours is by far the best one I’ve found. I’m working with lesson 1 , and it is going well. Thanks, and keep up the great advice. 🤟
At 56, I decided to try to learn guitar (again) after giving it up for bass as a kid. I can manage fine on the bass, but I always wanted to play guitar. I talked my wife into a guitar for my birthday and I've been practicing (not nearly enough) for months. This ONE VIDEO for 20 minutes had me grabbing the guitar after the first song. "I CAN DO THAT!"... and I did. Thank you so much. After months of hacking away at chords for chords' sake, I have songs to play and play along with. It just became fun. You changed my life as a guitar player with one video. Can't thank you enough.
You're the best help on the inter-webs by far. You can seemingly play anything and you break it down very simply for knuckle heads like myself. Thank you and Keep rocking Marty! Nice gear also BTW.
I’ve had a guitar for years that I’ve never touched until now. No one around me knows how to play so I have an instructor but I gotta say you do a way better job at explaining everything to beginners! This was so easy to follow along and your explanations using the fret numbers was so much easier than letters that I don’t understand just yet. Probably my favourite tutorial thank you so much!
You should think about doing a quiz. "Wich song is this? - Down, up, down, chicky, chicky, down, down." Your verbal/onomatopoeic interpretations are marvellous! 😍
i love coming back to marty for these vids for beginners honestly because I first started playing guitar when he didn't have his own channel and yet he still taught me everything i know. been playing for about 4 or 5 years now and it's crazy to see where i started. thank you Marty!
I have learned more in the last 18 minutes that a year of lessons could teach me. Simply explained in a language anyone can understand Brilliant Thanks Mate

Thank you for so much music within reach. You were the first one I watched and could actually do and enjoy what I learned from you over a decade ago. My all-time favorite I still use in worship, sitting around the house or the campfire - The land of A7 (an old one about 11 years ago) - Many thanks and blessing to you my friend

Smells like teen spirit has never been the same song for me ever since hearing "Down up down, chicky chicky, down down" I sing it in my head with Marty's voice every time I hear it now. Improvement or annoyance? I really don't know, but it makes the song more fun.

I feel like everytime I need the perfect guitar video to progress my learning you release a video with in that 24 hours 😂 the last 6 months of my playing have been great because of you!! Thank you 🙏
I needed to here the "Oi" and "A O lets go" in the first two tunes :) Love it when you sing that stuff.
I started watching your vids the second I picked up a guitar, and now I feel very confident with how I play. Thanks!
Thanks Marty! Always appreciate the easier riffs for a beginner like myself. ROCK ON!!
You've been on and off teaching me guitar for 15 years Marty, im back learning again after a long break and needed to get my self back in the game, great stuff as always, thanks man
I love learning guitar on here with you. I have come a long way in just a few months of playing everyday to mostly your channel here. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’ve started playing electric guitar at the ripe age of 32 (just for myself) and while I know a few cords (Em, Am, CM, FM, Dm), my guide book doesn’t really explain playing actual songs… you made this so easy for me and I think I can actually play a little song for myself this weekend. Really appreciate this 🙏🏻
Hey Marty, I’ve watched this video in the past picking up pointers in my new journey learning guitar. I recently had an injury to my left wrist area that required extensive surgery. Now after 3 months post operation, I’m back learning some easy song riffs to help with my recovery. It’s going to be a long road, but I will get there. Thanks so much for all your videos. Just what the doctor ordered, literally. 🤘
this man got me started on bass, and now guitar two years later. what a legend.
Can we pls get like an up close camera view of where to actually put your fingers when you say and “you can turn that into a power cord” and then proceed to play when begginers like me have no idea what ur talking abt
