Easy DIY how to turn a dark leather sofa into a white sofa using Dixie Belle Silk mineral paint
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is an easy 1 day DIY how to change the color of your sofa using Dixie Belle "All in One Silk" paint. Finally a product that won't break the bank and one that lets you turn a dark, dated sofa to a light colored sofa easy peasy. This took 3 coats for full coverage. I transformed our dark brown leather sofa into a light bright and updated piece of furniture for our family room. It was super easy and straight forward, products used were, 1- 32 oz. ( $39.00) of Dixie Belle Silk paint ( used almost all of it), Dixie Belle best dang clear wax($24.00), Dixie Belle spray wax ($20.00), Purdy stubby paint brush ($6.00), wooden stir stick, old sock, tarps for the floor, TSP cleaner($7.00) and water. The Silk paint was full strength for this project, do not thin with water. Took approx. 3 hours over 2 days. Cost approx. $60 as I only used a small portion of the TSP cleaner and wax products, and I had the rest on hand. Happy painting!

Oyster! What a great shout! Thanks so much
Hi. Thanks So Much! I have been researching Paint/Dye for quite awhile off and on. Then last night I stumbled across this one with you and Dixie Paint. Finally! I have 2 white leather Arizona Leather couches, but they have needed some paint for quite awhile, but I didn't want to make a big mistake and possibly get the wrong one and/or one that didn't work. So, Kudos! I am hoping that I can get away with one coat, but may need two coats; but probably not 3 since mine is white to start with . Yay! Thanks again for being real and sharing. God Bless You and Yours Always. Amen.
This was so helpful. I think I'm gonna do this with mine. ❤
Wow! That’s amazing!!!! I am getting a free hunter green couch and love seat and wanted it more like your couch! Now I know what to use!! Thank you!!! Looks like it is holding up well!!

The color has come off in the crease areas. Our couch is very cushy and has a lot of areas where there are creases. It's those areas that you can see the original dark brown leather coming thru. I feel that this type of couch will always have wear in those areas and the only way to make it look better is to constantly reapply more paint when needed. Probably about once every 6-12 months to make it look new again. It was really not that hard to do. I think this solution would fix the issue of the paint coming off in the crease areas. Otherwise I think for this price to turn dark leather into a lighter more modern look has really worked well. On a side note- I would not buy a new leather sofa and paint it but for old furniture I would definitely do this again.
Thank you for this really helps🙏🏽🏡🙌🏽💗
Will buy it now!!!
Looks really beautiful! Right now it’s late Nov2022. Would love a quick update on how it has “worn” or “held up”. I am looking to do a similar project with light paint over the dark. Thank you!!!🎉

Could you use this in microfiber without adding fabric softener to give yourself a faux leather but soft texture?

Not really sure on that one. Sorry
How did it hold up? I got a free leather sofa that I want to “dye” to a burgundy shade, and I’m looking for some options that will last.

Very nice video. I’m wanting to do my leather sofa. How is the hold up with lots of use? Cracking at all? Is there a product if cost weren’t an issue that you would prefer?

Chalk paint - applied and waxed correctly - holds up really well, actually. You can even use it outdoors with a switch to the liquid lacquer finish.

@@221b-Maker-Street can that lacquer finish be used interior as well?
