    I appreciate your efforts to put these tutorials out there for everyone else. Other than cost, are there any other reasons for using polyester based resin instead of epoxy resin for this type of application?

  • @BackyardBoatworks

    Epoxies and gelcoats don’t play well together. For something like this epoxy simply isn’t required.

    Love these hatch vids! Do you have any vids where you show how to do recessed hinges in the hatch and receiver?

  • @BackyardBoatworks

    @BackyardBoatworks

    2 жыл бұрын

    None of my molds have a recess for hinges because each customer is using different hinges in their boat. You could easily add hinge recess just by adding blocks of HDPE in the spaces you want the hinge to be located.

    I love this. Great video Russ. Thank you. What size spray tip are you using for the PVA?

  • @BackyardBoatworks

    @BackyardBoatworks

    Жыл бұрын

    Any tip size works but something smaller is better because PVA is like water. If you have a larger tip just turn the material flow way down and bump up the pressure on the gun. The key is to do very light mist coats letting the first coat tack up.

  • @BackyardBoatworks

    @BackyardBoatworks

    It depends on the customers boat. Most of the time I am only making the part and the customer is handling the final finishing. If the lid needed to match a non-skid texture I would have needed to add the texture into the mold before I sprayed the gelcoat.

  • @BackyardBoatworks

    Paint thickness is measured in mils. Also plastic sheeting and garbage bags are also measured in mils. Go to Home Depot and buy some plastic sheeting. They come in different mil thickness such as 4mil 6mil etc.
