Thank you ❤ I have been using mod podge before the napkin goes on as well. I think that was wrong. Great video. Thank you.

Will this also work on wood coasters? Also, with regular varnish, can you put hot cups on them?

Hi, yes i use the same method on wood coasters, check the regular varnish first that it is heat resistant. Hope this helps.

Does the mod podge and varnish make the coaster water proof? protect the design? What if a cup of coffee is used, will the coaster be protected from the heat?

Hi, yes the modge podge and varnish makes it water proof and protects the design. The design will be protected from heat and just use a damp cloth to wipe any stains off the coaster. Hope this helps. 😁

Just read that Mod Podge dishwasher is protected from heat up to 110 degrees, may yellow if exposed to higher heat, and may stick if a cup is hotter. Actually not dishwasher safe if your water heats up hotter than that though.

Hi, I make these all of the time and to make them usable for a hot drink you need to use heat proof varnish......I use polyvine, the one with the shells on the bottle as they do many types

Hi do you wait for it to dry before you put the first layer of mod podge on or do you do it while it’s still wet from the water? Thanks

  • @easycrafting121

Hi, I apply a thin layer of glue when the coaster is still wet. I do use a very soft bristle brush for this and very light brush strokes. Hope this helps.😊

Thanks for sharing this video! I made some coasters with decoupage technique. I sealed the surface with Mod Podge for 4-5 times. After one week, I used Dupli-Color Varnish and let the tiles to cure for a week. Then when I put a very hot mug on the tile, it didn't stick but there was a deep circle. Could you please tell me what the problem was?

Hi, oh no, is the dupli colour varnish heat resistant? I do apply very thin layers of glue and varnish. I have started using the modge podge dishwasher safe to apply the napkins and I always use Liquitex gloss varnish. Hope this helps. Happy crafting. 😁

Asi, I would say too many coats of mod podge, 2 coats of dupli-color is better and let it cure longer, some say even 4 weeks, I don't know.

Liquitex varnish is not heat resistant. Your best best is either high heat automotive spray or epixy resin. Not every epoxy resin is heat resistant and will leave rings even after completely cured. You need to find that can withstand hight heat.
