Easy Crochet Ribbed Beanie Tutorial for Beginners | No Bunch Beanie | Knit-Like Crochet Beanie
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Written Pattern: VivCrochets.com/ribbed-beanie
Here's a quick and simple crochet ribbed beanie tutorial suitable for all crochet levels! With the usual ribbed beanie patterns, I've always felt that it would turn out too thick and bumpy at the top. This one is slightly more advanced than other ribbed beanie tutorials to keep the top of the beanie from bunching when gathering and sewing up the top. However, this pattern is still easy because it's repetitive and uses basic stitches.
Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color "Cafe Latte": amzn.to/3whE7Fj
- Weight: Medium (4)
- Fiber: 100% Acrylic
- Approximate total length: 160 yd / 146 m
- Approximate total weight: 3.07 oz / 87 g
5.0 mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook: amzn.to/3noE9mz
Yarn Needle
Scissors
Project Level:
This is a great first project because it uses very basic stitches that all beginners would know! The only catch is that it is worked mainly in the back loops only (BLO) to give it that ribbed effect. The stitching method I used is the slip stitching method, but hand sewing is also a great alternative!
Stitches:
Slip Knot (sk)
Chain (ch)
Half Double Crochet (hdc) in the Back Loop Only (BLO)
Slip Stitch (sl st) in the Back Loop Only (BLO)
Gauge:
18 hdc - 11 rows = 4 in / 10 cm
Dimensions:
52 cm/20.5" circumference x 26 cm/10.25" wide
Tips:
- Measure your head and decide the size of your hat before starting
- Account for the stretchiness of the ribbing (make it slightly smaller than your actual head size)
- The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch
- Pull your loose ends to the inside of the hat and weave them in (or leave them hanging!)
Send me a picture of your finished beanie on Instagram @viv.crochets! I’d love to see it!
Thanks for watching!

My wife, who is a beginner in crochet, just finished this beanie. It turned out great. She had problems with the tightness of the five slip stitches at the start. She said she just kept them as loose as possible and if they were too tight, she used a hairpin to lift it and insert the hook. The top is not bulky and looks good. We're both proud of her accomplishment. Thank you Viv!
I’m a beginner crocheter and I’ve wanted to make some cute stuff to make for gifts, and this is the best tutorial for beginners I’ve found so far! Such a cute beanie and simple to make.

I have now made four beanies using this tutorial and pattern and just have to say this is hands down my favorite thing lately. I’m still fairly new to crocheting but the fact that I can make this design in two days or less makes me feel so accomplished and satisfied in my work and progress! Thank you for making this, you’ve helped me and so many others! 🫶🏻
For anyone struggling with the slip stitches, don't make the loops too tight. Keep it a bit looser than your half double crochets so that the hook can slip under smoothly when you're doing the next row.
@grimeydanny4214
4 ай бұрын
to help with this, you can use a hook that's a .5 size bigger
Great tutorial, slow enough for beginners, showing the loops and where to put the hook 10/10 🤗
I love this pattern! I used this video to essentially teach myself to crochet and ive made four beanies that im super happy with. What i learned that id pass on for others is that if your slip stitches are super tight you need to make them COMICALLY looser. Like ridiculously loose it feels silly. THEY WILL TIGHTEN UP!! bc omg i was fighting for my life for a while there . Im currently working on your lemon peel cardigan pattern and having a blast !! So excited for the results

I've been crocheting for a while but for some reason I've always struggle to make a beanie. thanks to this tutorial, I was able to finally create one :)
Just came over from IG, thanks for this tutorial! I’ve made two beanies in the past with that weird bunching, looking forward to doing it this way from now on! Thank you!
This was my first ever crochet project and it worked!! I'm in shock. This tutorial was so clear, chill and helpful it took me from 100% noob to someone who now feels like they can 'do crochet'. Thank you so much!
cannot recommend this pattern enough!! I was so so so happy with the beanie and not having to count stitches too often is great for some mindless crochet! so so fun!!
I have to admit this. I've been through numerous tutorials, but yours hands down is just the best tutorial out there for beginners and even for crocheters... Your explanation is quite helpful and we can learn things so easily, thank you so much, I genuinely appreciate you a lot as my crochet teacher.
I made a beanie for my boyfriend using this pattern, and it turned out great! Thank you 😊

Finally someone made the perfect beanie with the proper end at the top! Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Love your slip stitch trick on the brim edge and the top of the hat. Pure genius! New subscriber today. Thanks!
The 5 slip stitches get so tight for me that it becomes hard to see and I can’t put my hook in without pulling it open with my fingers. I literally dread when it comes to the slip stitches cause the rest of it is so much easier. I tried to loosen my tension, but it’s still not enough. Any advice?

Maybe try a slightly larger hook? Or do single crochets instead

I've never done crochet and I made this for my bf in just a few days and it turned out amazing! Your tutorial is so clear and I felt confident in completing the project! Thank you so much!!!
This was my first time crocheting a beanie! I definitely messed up several things, and it STILL turned out very cute and warm!!
Awesome tutorial, easy to follow! Slip stitches are a royal pain but I love that there will not be bulk at the top of the hat. Thanks for sharing! ❤
I have only been crocheting for a few months but this tutorial was so great! Very detailed and it helped me make a beanie in multiple colors! Thank you! :)
I'm so in love with this beanie! thank you for the easy tutorial❤️
Im a beginner crocheter and i followed this video and finsihed my beanie within a day. Im so filled with joy and thank you so much for a detailed and simple video🥹
My tension is all over the place but i did it and I couldnt be happier with this hat! Your instructions are concise and clear and i speak english only. Thank you so much! ❤
My beanie turned out SO well, thank you for this tutorial!
This no-bunching pattern is AMAZING. Will be using it for any hat I make from now on! Thank you!!!
thanks for the tutorial, I’ve always had problem with the bunch at the top, yesterday I made the beanie and it looks so beautiful thank you ❤
Wow, I have been searching KZread for days to find a stretchy beanie without the bunches. This is the only one I found. It loks great and your video is very well done! Thank you!!
Such a great and detailed tutorial! However, I did the slip stitch rim, exactly like you did with 3 stitches per 2 rows, and it made the rim so small, I couldn't even fit it on my head. I freaked out a little bit but ended up cutting and undoing the slip stitches. Fit absolutely perfect afterward! I've made a beanie with a bunched top, and I much prefer this pattern. Thank you!!
This is such a beginner friendly video! I‘ve crocheted a few pieces already but this is the first time I actually got to see how to slip stitch! 😍 The beanie turned out really nice too, thank you so much!
SO clever to mix the sl st with DC! Love it!
Thank you so much for this. I tired to make the beanie from that tutorial with over 1 million views and it turned out horribly. I was supposed to give it to my co-worker, but it looks terrible, so I had to find a better tutorial. I’m so glad I found yours!!!
I just finished mine in two days and it’s soooo pretty I absolutely loved this pattern! So easy and so pretty!
Loved this pattern. I’m an advanced crocheted but I stay away from clothes because I never can get sizing but this hat fit me perfectly. Thank you so much. I will definitely be making more of these.😁
Great tutorial...a definite project. I love the way the top turns out
Thank you so so much for explaining everything so well. I am a total beginner and have only ever done single crochet stitches before this and was super scared to try anything else, but this tutorial was honestly so helpful and got me out of my comfort zone. And now I have awesome Christmas gifts! Thanks again!
This was my longest project yet in my crochet journey hehe THANK YOU!! So adorable :D
just made this as my first crochet project and love the final result! thank you so much!
I just started crocheting and this project has been so easy and so fun! thank you for the tutorial.
Beautiful toboggan. Beautifully done and instructed. Thank you!
Just finished this as two alternating colours in quadrants. It turned out ok. Clear instructions. I’m keeping for future beanies.
You made it so easy! Just finished my first beanie! Thank you!! ❤
I crocheted myself THE BEST BEANIE in the world and all because of you!!!!!! Thank you soooo much!!! I hope you have the best, best day❤❤❤
BRO I am literally a beginner who DON'T even know how to do half double crochet but I got so. ✨️perfectly ✨️
Thank you so much for yet another great tutorial! You do them at such a good pace and explain things clearly! :)
This was such a great tutorial!! My beanie turned out amazing. Thank you so much!
I've really enjoyed this video. I worked in the back rib when I made this hat. It was so much easier to evenly sew it together ❤
I love this so much. Thank you for the awesome pattern!
Saw your vid on Instagram and had to check out your tutorial bc i always hate the awkward bunch at the top of my beanies. Thank you so much!!
I knit a lot mainly arans and icelandic sweaters and cardigans. I would love to be able to crochet but i have a hard time with it. Now that I have seen this tutorial I am going to follow the instructions and hopefully I will have success. I am so happy to have found this channel.
I just finished this project and it was my true first crochet project! It definitely took a lot longer than I was expecting but it turned out so CUTE! I made it for my 14 yo son and he's going to love it so much (and hopefully not lose it!).
This was such a good tutorial I’m using this for all my beanies from now on thank you
Used this tutorial to make my very first crochet project! I only learnt to crochet a few days ago and this video was so easy to follow! My beanie looks amazing im so happy ty!

This pattern is amazing. And your tutorials are the best, my first iteration of this is a massive failure and it took me 4 days to complete but that's alright, it was a blast and I've learnt from my mistakes. I bought a mixed colored yarn to do it again. This time, I'll make sure that it's perfect. I absolutely adore your smile as well
one of the first things i’ve crocheted and i love it!! great tutorial.
Great pattern and tutorial, my wife loved it. She made a beanie for herself, and now I want one as well.

Thank you for this easy tutorial. I just finished my first crochet hat and it looks great!
this came out amazing! finished it in three days as a moderately skilled crocheter!
Thank you so much for this. It's the perfevt tutorial for beginners like I am. I crocheted two beanies with your help and gifted them to my grandparents. Needless to say, they loved them. Thanks a ton ❤
this was my first project ever and it turned out fantastic!! thank you very much for all your help!!! 🥰
Though it was one of the hardest crochet stuff i've ever made, the process was quite fun enough and enjoyable. Thanks for your tutorial❤❤❤
Hi! I just finished it and it turned out so pretty!!! I’m so happy thank you so much you explained everything so clearly ❤
I so appreciate this tutorial, thank you! I crocheted a bit back when I was in school but that was like 20 years ago so this was super easy to follow and once I got a hang of it I could also just have other stuff on in the background until moving on to the next step (for the main body I watched a lot of TV while doing for example) which is perfect for me. I just finished my first hat and I'm not entirely happy with it but that is of no fault of yours and I'm happy to make another now that I know more what I'm doing. Super appreciated, again, and I'll recommend this to some of my friends who have expressed wanting to try crocheting too. Also appreciate that you wrote the pattern down, as back when I learned this in school it was in Swedish and any patterns I've found online are all in English and I cannot based on what little I remember follow them to save my life. Now I can compare the video to the pattern and learn better from there. You're awesome!
this was my first crochet project and it was a great tutorial! tip for other people: make sure when you do a slip stitch on the brim that you dont make it too tight because mine ended up being the correct length but too tight since the yarn isnt stretchy in that direction
This tutorial was a breeze to follow so thanks!! I started the beanie and I have 18 rows at the moment so there's a lot more to go but it has been really fun making it. This will be my first actual crochet project and I am so excited to finish :D
I have crocheted for years. I'm not great but it's relaxing and I enjoy it. I just watched your video and l learned new things. Thank you so much for taking the time to do it!
This tutorial was quick and easy, mine turned out great thankyou so much for the tutorial!!
@VivCrochets thank you so much for this tutorial. I made a beanie for my daughter and she absolutely loves it.
This tutorial is PERFECT.
thank you so much for this!!! the beanie i made with this pattern came out perfect, the no bunching is so awesome 🎉🎉
I love this tutorial! Finished my 3rd beanie using this. I did two beanies using 2 colours and the 3rd one using four colours. If anyone else wants to try the color switch has to be on the slip stitch end fyi for it to look seamless.
Thank you for making your tutorials easy to follow! i fall in love with learning how to crochet everyday cause of your videos
I just made this for my mom and she loves it!! Thank you for the easy to understand tutorial ❤️ turned out great :)

nice tutorial! i just made a black one for my brother and now i'm doing a beige one with a little flower for my mom, they'll be christmas gifts :)
Best tutorial ever ❤ Everything is so clear!!
great tutorial for beginners 🫶 beanie came out really thick and cozy - ideal for autumn, i recommend making it a lil tighter tho bc it's very stretchy!
I look forward to starting this hat tonight. Beautiful project. Thanx
I messed up my first attempt, but I did not make it wide enough, I did not make it long enough, and I used a black yarn for my first attempt. I definitely learned from my first failed attempt so I am going to make sure to follow the directions exactly this time around! This tutorial is super simple and helpful thank you, attempt 2 will be successful!!!
