This is perfect! I've been looking for just the right tutorial and this is it. Most are very holey and the holes in this bag seem to be smaller, so thank you for that. I cannot wait to make a few of these for when I go to the store or our local outside market.

Making this for mother's day. My mom loves the environment(aka hates one use plastic bags which rip easy) and gardening and I knew she'd enjoy this adorable bag. Useful for carrying freshly picked veggies or just everyday items. Super easy and quick to make. 10/10 recommend. Wish me luck that she loves it!!

I hope your mom loved the market bag. If you’re looking for another functional gift to crochet for her, the grocery bag holders are excellent for storing the plastic bags we do acquire, to be reused later.

I'm wanting to make a bag for my mother and this looks like it'll be easy enough for me. As I was watching you, I took detailed notes.

This was my first crochet project over a year ago and I’ve advanced to pretty complicated patterns, but I find this bag so useful, I’ve come back here to make two more. Thank you for helping introduce me to a wonderful craft and for providing such clear instructions on a very functional item.

I just made this bag within three days and it turned out great! Super cute and easy to make. Only problem is that the bag doesn’t hold that much weight, and I’m afraid it will stretch out if I use it too regularly with too much weight.

I used cotton, stretched out a ton when I put books in it. Surely if I add veggies or anything with weight, it will stretch. Not sure how to use it now.

@@1234ABCD5 you could always line the inside and the straps with fabric so it's stronger and doesn't stretch

You can you se a macrame yarn which can hold a lot of weight without stretching😊

This is a great tutorial! I made mine a littleeee smaller (ended up only needing 50 chains for the handles) and it took ~10 hours! This is my first bigger project besides some little shirts and coasters. So happy with it!!

I JUST FINISHED AND IT LOOKS SO GOOD! VERY EASY!! THE ONLY EXPERIENCE I HAVE IS BASIC KNITTING (like a square) AND CROCHET A CIRCLE BEFORE AS PRACTICE!! I did make some mistakes but don't worry the imperfection makes the bag even more special :)

@@user-kd6nm7yn4s I used 4 of the lilys sugar and cream yarns! I think they’re about 70 grams each so around 280g

You want about 7oz/200g 437yd/400m of medium yarn thats what i used to get to about the size of the tote in the youtube vibeo.

Hi! At the start, did you unravel the entire ball of yarn to have 2 ends or did you cut off a bit. I'm a complete beginner and it didn't show what she did.

Hi. @@libbyb4067 No i didn’t unravel the yarn. I use “magic loop” to connect the yarns. This can be done when you’ve almost finish the first ball of yarn.

@@HiJuliaSpeaking It is I "heart" Yarn 8/4 cotton from Hobbii. She is using at least 2 skeins since it is doubled. She does not say how she used because you can make it the size you want. Never having used this Yarn from Hobbii I can not say for sure but 4 to 6 skeins, only because it us doubled.

Hi Mei, thank you for a very comprehensive. I’ve tried making it and enjoyed it. Just one thing- my bag seems to widen as I crochet upwards so the end result is a little like an upside down bucket hat. May I ask what could I possibly be doing wrong? I see that your sample is straight. Thank you

I think you must’ve accidentally added a stitch each time you went around. It’s a really easy mistake to make!

what do you mean continue the pattern? like skip one chain to make holes or go into each chain and half double crochet?

I seem to have done something very wrong 😭😅 mine does not look like that 😭

mine just keeps building a square, the edges dont come up like a bag as in the video,,, any tips? ive been half-double crocheting all the way around for a lot of rows now.

Probably made a mistake in row 7 when you begin to go all the way around. Watch her video again. Pay attention to the turns. She skips the first row at each corner. Good luck!

I used a flimsier yarn so it can hold a few light things, but I’d be nervous carrying much weight. If you use a sturdier yarn it should be plenty good to hold two books!!

I feel like I messed up somewhere >< the row after joining the round the first time doesn’t have those convenient loops to crochet into even though I feel like I did everything correctly 😭

I don’t have the yarn to be able to do this yet, but I definitely want to try it! I tore my ACL and taught myself how to crochet so I have something to do/make. I only know the single crochet so I gotta practice the half double crochet but I definitely hope to try this soon in the future!! Very good tutorial and explanation! Thank you!😁

I’d just start a chain and make it a 3-4 inches shorter than you want the bag to end up! That’s what I did anyway

Hi, the yarn I am using is 4ply and i am not doubling it, how many chains should I make for the foundation/base?

I’m really confused by the handles. I understand how to do the first one, but how do you complete the second one once you’re done with the first

So I just made this bag (we’ll attempt to make lol) and instead of being a perfect square, my bad gets smaller and smaller towards the top and almost closing in at the very top where the straps go (almost like a real purse). I am not sure where I went wrong and I think it’s hideous lmaooo but it was only my second project so I guess I wont be that hard on myself. Any reason as to why the shape didn’t stay square? (It’s shaped very similar to almost a triangle now. Thank you!

i have this same issue & i saw another comment saying hers gets wider at the top, and someone said she was probably adding a new stitch. since ours is getting smaller at the top, i’m assuming somewhere we both dropped/ignored a stitch?? but i’m not sure how to fix that lol. it’s my first ever crochet project, learning as i go!!

It is size 1 yarn. Very thin, that is why she is using 2 strands.

Is there a comparable yarn from Walmart?

There are 2 ends in an yarn:) so you just take the 2 ends and place them together OR, use 2 skeins...
