    They said it was temporary,but yes should make sure same height like stairs.....also if this was permanent,I'm sure it would have been built centre to the doorway😂😂😂

    Great work, I would add though they are gonna pop loose. The open centers will allow a bounce in the tread. And the brick will freeze before the tread stone. Next time fill the cavities and get a perfect smooth layer then set the tread in fortified mastic. That will stay for 100 years.

    When I was an apprentice brick layer I was taught not to tap on the level but to tap brick. Once you tap on an aluminum level it’s no longer accurate.

    my dad wouldn't allow me to lay it like that, he'd make me fill up the entire inside with more bricks and especially across the back, there's nothing back there.

    Why bury that cable that was running along the wall? Wouldn’t it have been better to reroute it, in case access is needed to it in the future?

    I need to install a step like this at the back on my house on the extension so thought I would watch your video for guidance. I’ve got no problems doing this but my concern is the damp proofing. Doing this will surely bridge the damp proof or am I being over cautious?

    This is a great video, I am doing something similar with my front step that is a little bigger, with bluestone slab toppers. What would you fill the middle of the step up with if you wanted that to be more permanent?

    God wish I had a trade instead of getting a degree. Wish they'd ran trade courses at my Uni. I would have done Anthropology and bricklaying. I'd charge 5000 quid for laying a few bricks in the morning and then read about Inuit women at night.

    How do you know how deep the concrete base needs to be??? I've got to cut into tarmac (to create a neat edge) to put a concrete base in, to build my steps on top of.

    I dont know what it is but people spend all there time at their keyboards, but to me there is nothing more satisfying then physical work, digging in getting things done learning. step by step, and at the end saying I did that, that's my job... Now let's get someone in that actually knows what there doing, because that is embarrassing, and if someone sees that from the pub I'll never live it down...

    It's like looking in a mirror! I'd do exactly the same. Worth noting for beginners that you need to know the size of the slabs you're going to use to work out the lip when setting out the brickwork.
