Easy Breezy Portraits | Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Sometimes it’s good to break away from the controlled and calculated world of studio portraits. Sometimes what you actually need to bring your portrait ideas to life is a little dash of the unpredictable and adding a breeze does just that. From a full blow gale to a light gust of air, a breeze can add some dynamic movement to hair or fabric and there are lots of ways to make it and control it.
In this video, Gavin Hoey shares three different ways to create a breeze and three different looks that you can try in your own home. However, before he starts Gavin has some good advice… You’ll take a lot of average photos to get one or two good images.
As Gavin demonstrates, the easiest and possibly the most controllable way to add a breeze is with a wafting board. Using this method he transforms a basic head and shoulder portrait into a flowing hair portfolio photo.
Next Gavin moves on to a desk fan which he uses to blow some lightweight Organza, floaty fabric across his model's face and shoulders. Finally, Gavin has some words of advice about using a mini leaf blower. This is a strong source of wind that Gavin uses to create a fine art portrait. It’s finished off with a little help from Photoshop, which Gavin walks you through.
