It's so easy in this day and age, with all the technology we have, to forget what a beautiful skill binding a book by hand is. I just spent half an hour watching a man work with his hands, without saying a word. I admit, in the first couple of minutes I was saying to myself, "okay, I get it, do I have to watch you fold every single page?" I don't know how I stumbled into this video in the wee hours of the night, but very quickly I found myself staring silently at the screen, completely in awe, taking in every single step. Most of us take for granted the amount of love that is put into the books we buy. We simply notice the work of the author and the illustrator. Well done, sir. Thank you.

Oh, sure! Bookbinder he is, film producer and editor he is NOT. I had to skip a lot of it because the footage was just repetitive. How many times does a person need to see them folding or cutting a piece of paper? A few times is great, seeing him fold or cut every fecken one is intolerable. Overall, there was about twenty minutes of video where you actually learn something. The rest was repetitive filler. The constant piercing of holes was horribly inefficient too. By lining up the block, marking lines where the holes are to be and then sawing slits with a 24 tooth hacksaw blade, the holes are made in seconds....literary. Then he's showing the stitching from the wrong side. You don't haver to know what the inside looks like, because that doesn't show the real meat....the kettle stitch. I find this to be a poorly done, and ill thought out, tutorial.

Angelus_Solus , lucky you. You seem to have some experience with book binding, and you seem to be a quick learner. I however am new to this, and being in my very senior years of life with the slowing of cognitive functions greatly appreciated the repetitive steps shown here. Your advice about the line up of pages and using the saw were good too.

Thank you for this, this is a very useful practical binding. I have several software and hardware user manuals, anywhere from 80 to over 200 pages, that I want to print out in booklet form and bind for convenience, in approximately A5 size. This method will work very well, with one variation: I will print out a cover for each book on heavy paper, which I will then wrap and glue around the outside of the end paper folio to make a sturdy cover consisting of four layers of heavy paper. The back will have the identical paper without the printed cover.
