    I have always put my zipper upside down on the material, so worth seeing what you have done on yours. Mind you I put the outside fabric on the bottom the the zip then lining face down and sew. Will try your suggestion. Thanks for sharing, Would you at any time also add a backing to the main piece for padding?

    I always use a lightweight fusible fleece (Pellon 987) on each main fabric piece for a little more body. Or even a lighter weight fusible fleece sometimes…both work well.

    Hello, when you sewed round the whole bag was the zipper folded over or laid out flat when you sewed over it? That’s what I needed a closer look at…when both sides are put together the zipper naturally folds in do you sew it like that or try to get it flat…?

  • @TheCraftyAuthor

    @TheCraftyAuthor

    I let my zipper fall to the side that it is naturally towards. The only time I flatten is if I am working with Faux leather or vinyl. 🙂

    Thank you so much for this video, it is so helpful!!! I do have one question. When you get to the point where you sew the whole bag around. Do you fold tbe zipper in half, I was a little stuck there. Its so bulky for tbe needle to go over so I wasn't quite sure what to do there.

    4:50 Hi did you use interfacing? Why do people use it or dont use it? Im a newbie and have only opened my machine

  • @heleneikerenkotter2950

    @heleneikerenkotter2950

    She did not use interfacing . Without interfacing the two cotton fabrics make a very soft flimsy bag , no structure. I personally will quilt my outer fabric and not interface the lining. I like my outer fabric interfaced or quilted for stability and body. I do feel that if you do not interface the outer piece totally to iron a one 1.5 inch wide strip of interfacing across the top to stabilize the portion where you are going to sew the zipper. If unlined pieces are too limp the zipper fabric might be too heavy and cause some gentle buckling. Experiment . There are so many ways to make these bags and several different zipper applications. The type of bag that you sew depends on what you are going to use it for or give as a gift . You can make one without a lining .

    It would have saved a lot if stress if you had showed the way you sew the outside some when you stitch over the ends of the zipper. You really didn't show or talk about how that is done correctly.
