I love walking bass and actually that is why I started playing bass. I was learning jazz drumming from a jazz drummer and hated it, but loved the way the bass sounded in jazz. Love the way you teach this. I normally look at the key signature and play the notes; you make this look like something I could do to make my own walking bass lines. Thanks!

That’s awesome to hear Joyce. There are indeed lots of ways to study playing walking bass and the notes of course, are super important, but this is a method that’s easy to understand and start using. Thanks for your support 👍

I really like your explanations - maybe adding tabs/notes below the video would help those of us that wear glasses and have to constantly squint and slow down the video lol..also bass volume could be more - I am wearing headphones but it's still a bit low once you add in the background music. Cheers - I am about to take the jump into your courses. thx

Really glad you like it. It’s always difficult getting the balance of TAB/notation on screen, but that’s what the PDF’s are for really. I try to balance the sound of the bass with my voice too. I don’t have any courses available just yet, but soon I hope! Thanks for your support 👍

Clear and concise as usual Keith! I didn't struggle with walking lines but have a student that does and will be sharing this with them. Thanks for all you do passing along useful information, you are an excellent instructor and pretty darn good Bassist also. Cheers!

Thanks for the great video. I really appreaciate your clear approach towards explaining the concepts. Do you have any recommendations for when to use scale notes vs chord tones?
@academyofbass
Жыл бұрын
Thanks James👍 There are no rules for where you use either chord, or scale notes. It’s all largely a matter of taste. It’s difficult not to use chord notes though, even if it’s just 1 note. That said, if you use only chord notes, or only scale runs, your lines could very easily lack variation. Try mixing them up and listen to how they sounds. I’d stick mostly to chord notes to be safe (that’s always going to work and sound good) and add scale runs (and chromatic notes) in sparingly to start with. Good luck👍
