He’s fantastic in… well… everything. But I love this role. He’s hilarious and over-dramatic.

This is one of those movies that sneaks up on you. You think it will be ok, but it turns out to be a great movie you can watch multiple times over the years.

This movie really put Emma Stone on everyone's radar. She absolutely carried. The supporting cast is also insanely good. Also I love it when this dynamic duo get to react together.

“I’m adopted” “What! Who told you!?” That part gets me every time 😆

While I didn't think it would 'suck' - I had no idea it would be this good. 13 years later it still holds up as one of the best teen comedies... right up there is the 80s and 90s stuff like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller etc etc...

The "where are you from originally" was something Tucci was actually asking the other actor. The camera happened to be rolling, and they put it in.

OMG that's hilarious XD

The funniest part about this to me is the crazy situations she finds herself in but her parents are so non toxic they either trust her completely or doesn't give a shit(we know which one it is) and in the end she figures it out.

I loved this movie. Emma Stone really nailed it. Also Stanley Tucci has perfect comedic timing 😂

The singing card scene lives in my head rent free.

Olive is still portrayed as a high schooler. She's insecure.

Emma Stone’s audition for this is still available here on KZread, a lot of her filming was her looking directly into a small camera. She did most of the personal shots in November 2008. That allowed them to build the story around those major points. Consistently coming back to her and her camera. She also does a TON of narrative for this film. More than any other se come has ever needed. I truly believe that she is the only one who could’ve done this role. Anyone else would’ve folded.

I believe that Penn Badgley's character works because he was the "Sixteen Candles" Jake Ryan character. He is around the movie as the "decent" guy but we don't get any background information on him really. He was also not fully developed really. Would his parents send him to military school after that party at his home for destroying the Rolls Royce? Or, would it simply be "Oh, that crazy kid, he will grow out of it eventually." I say that Penn works because it is another homage to the eighty's films' male love interest character. He was John Cusack from "Say Anything". He was Amanda Mancini who was Ronald Miller's (Patrick Dempsey) female love interest from "Can't Buy Me Love." It fits the beautiful love interest who secretly has depth but you do not it because they usually are in different social spheres than our main characters. I loved that no matter what the rumor that was going around about Olive, Todd (Penn) already knew that none of it was true because of what she had done for him years earlier. So he never doubted her character - he knew who she was. He also was so much better than the other boys because he never told. Her reputation was never damaged by their earlier interaction. Which makes him great in my book.

I would say Penn Badgely's character in this is the male equivalent of the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" trope🤣

“Crazy stupid love” is also a really good one from her, shes learning more adult things but the son and babysitter have their own coming of age stories integrated into the plot. Still one of the funniest and craziest twists in a rom-com

as always, with everything he does, Stanley Tucci steals the damn show here. this is one of my favourite "Sunday movies" of all time, perfect for when you're a little hungover, a little tired, you're done the groceries and laundry and you're a little sad you have to go back to work tomorrow. also I still quote this movie regularly. "I'm a straight guy! ROAR!" 😂

Also The Good Son, it's more of a thriller/horror but it's got young Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood. Their acting in it is amazing.

I just watched this movie over my Thanksgiving break again and I absolutely loved this movie. Emma Stone is just so natural and likeable and everything I've seen her is, she's incredible. I think everyone in this movie did such a good job. Just a great viewing experience

This movie should be re-titled as "The Charm of Emma Stone" 'cause it basically showcases her in all of her glory.

Another fun teen movie is The Duff with Mae Whitman. It doesn't have all the charm that this one does, but it's still pretty smart and fun. And it has Allison Janney which is always a win.

this is one of the more "modern" teen coming of age rom coms that obsessed me for a while, it was soooo freaking funny and cool, i loved how greg got all emotional with the conversation with the mom, i liked that line so much, dealing with sad live events with comedy

This movie was the movie that made me fall in love with Emma Stone. That and Zombieland just sold me on her charisma and acting ability.

This movie shows how incredibly charismatic, charming and versatile emma stone is. I have always wondered by she took a long hiatus from acting. She could've been and deserves to be a A list movie star by now.

Emma didn't take a hiatus from acting. She won an Oscar years later for La La Land. Got another nomination for The Favourite and starred in Cruella. She just recently won a very deserved 2nd Oscar for Best Actress in Poor Things. So she is undoubtedly A List.

This is not only probably my favorite Emma Stone movie but one of my favorite movies ever. So happy to see you guys watch it I knew you were gonna love it! Stanley tuchie is a g.o.a.t.

I know it doesn't go with what you were saying, but Cam and Stacy Tucci were both in Burlesque together.

I feel like this slipped through the cracks so easily. I loved this movie, saw it at the movie theatre with my mum. A lot of people missed out on this hidden gem! It's on my yearly watch list.

Stanley tucci was the best part in this film.

Penn Badgley is in fact only two years older than Emma Stone. The movie was filmed in the summer of 2009, when Stone was 20 and Badgley was 22.

Dad, I'm adopted? WHO TOLD YOU?!! God the family in this film is so damn funny. Also, this is why I have a lifelong crush on Emma Stone. She's really damn good in roles like this. You're going to answer to a higher power? Who? Tom Cruise?

This was filmed at my high school! Nordhoff high school in ojai. Summer i was going into senior year. A lot of my friends were extras in this movie ans you can see a lot of them in a lot of scenes throughout. Still crazy they filmed there

I don't think there's another actress who could have pulled off this role (especially the narration). It's like it was made for Emma.

I think the truly frustrating thing about the movie is that the whole thing started not because she lied, she told the truth. Her "best friend" just said, "Nu uh. That's not right say something different." over and over and over UNTIL she lied. She tried to tell the truth and her "best friend" bullied her until she lied and then was like. "Oh now that I have the answer I want now I will believe you."

Emma is so great. She was and still is a breath of fresh air in a world where only a certain look can be a leading woman. Pretty cool to watch this and superbad again. Fell in love again 😅

the guy wrote the script in about a week so Olive's family are all named after food and the boys who pay her are all named after fellow comedy directors including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Jay Chandrasekhar. although Olive being an anagram of I love goes with the fact her surname Penderghast is an anagram of pretend shag.

My favorite Emma Stone movie ever! Ive seen it over 100 times. Such an instant classic. Love you guys ❤

Great underrated movie and a good modernization of The Scarlet Letter. Two movie recommendations I have for you are both from 2011- The Adjustment Bureau and Limitless.

This has grown into one of my favourite movies. Everything is so spot on. Great cast, snappy editing, amazing script and Emma really nails it. Love her supportive parents. Sadly I feel in this kind of movies having actually reasonable parents is a rarity.

Pocket full of sushine, one of the funniest scenes for me. More importantly, Stanley Tucci at his sexiest in this film. He hot. He so foine! His comedic timing makes him even more attractive.

My high school mascot was also Blue Devils. We didn't have a hot half naked guy dressed as one though 😅

I love watching random movies with y’all, this was a beautiful way to end my evening

Love this movie! Went into it, thinking it would be a basic teen comedy, then I was pleasantly surprised at how smart and witty it is. Easily my favorite Emma Stone movie. I give her performance an A.

This is totally our family. We get so judged for not being more “parental”.h However, what makes me more higher up or whatever than my kids. I respect them and they us. As long as they keep their rooms clean and get good grades that’s good for us. I speak to them as I would any other adult.

@seattlecrytid Yeah, I agree I never understood why Olive was friends with her in the first place there didn't seem to be any benefits with that relationship she couldn't even be bothered to help pick up her papers at the beginning and the only times she ever acted nice towards Olive was when she thought Olive was being promiscuous and turned on her when she became jealous of the attention Olive was getting however all that being said it's fun seeing Aly Michalka play against type because up until this movie I had only ever seen her play wholesome roles on the Disney Channel.

i just never get tired of this movie. I've seen it almost 30 times, i can quote it end to end, and it still makes me smile every time i turn it on.

One thing I love about this movie are the teen movie homages in this film. Especially to 80s movies.

Such a nostalgic movie for me. I helped trick my AP Lit teacher into letting us this by telling her it was a modern Scarlet Letter.

It's true that Woodchuck Todd's character is under developed and we wish we knew more about him and his rapport with Olive in past and present. But I guess it is very common in many movies to have the protagonist's love interest be under written, if the plot does not revolve around their relationship. In most movies, it's a female character/love interest that this happens to.

I always think of an old friend from work's husband whenever I see this movie because whenever someone mentioned it back when we worked together she would always say it was her husband's favorite movie.

I always forget Malcolm Mcdowell is in this, I love him but it's one of the most random casting choice's I've seen in a movie.
