    Dany burning the Tarlys is referenced almost as much as her emotionless reaction to her brother’s death by people attempting to justify her S8 heal turn. There are several problems: - The Tarlys betrayed her and Olenna, costing them the Reach. - Dany’s actions, while ruthless, are still within the bounds of most GOT characters (a reminder that Jon killed Janos Slynt for not listening to him, and later killed those who conspired against him, including a child). -Dany didn’t want to kill the Tarlys- you see the hesitation when Tyrion proposes the watch. -The whole plot is contrived in the first place- the decisions Randyll Tarly made to betray the Tyrells and support a queen whose claim to the throne is tenuous at best is completely uncharacteristic.

    Burning people alive in the land where your daddy used to burn people alive ain't the best PR strategy. It's a show of things to come (insert GTA meme) for people of Westeros. And yes, it is stupid, forced and not planned way in advance. Meanwhile Slynt was beheaded, heck, even Joffrey just beheaded Ned although he could go ham.

    Nope she said she wants to break the wheel so how burning people because they don't support you is gonna acheive that to me she was a tyrant since the day she crucified those people without even a trial and allowed the torture of two young girls. The entire story of dany in the books is her conflict between being the opposite of her father a merceful queen or embracing her dragon side(of course none of this was showen in got)by the end of the last book she finaly makes her choice "fire and blood and dragons plant no trees" i had no doubt she will turn dark in the show and i have no doubt the same will happen in the books she might wake up by the end but the damage will be done.and yes we all agree that in the show it was poorly executed and rushed af but it wasn't surprising at all if you have been paying attention

    @@DWPL89 What was she supposed to do with the dragons, have them there for show? If it wasn't a good PR strategy for her to kill people, then boy do I have news about war for you. Aegon the Conqueror burned all the men who didn't bend the knee to him and he still was a good king afterwards because executing men is a part of war in Westeros, dragonfire or not. Stannis executed Mance, Jon executed Janos Slynt, hell even Robb executed Rickard Karstark for disobeying his orders. If Dany was going to just let go of the men who conspired against her and killed her ally (on Cersei's orders might I mention), then that would've been plain stupid. Targaryens executed people with their dragons in war, and so did tons of other people. I don't know what you expected there. Imprisoning them or killing them was pretty much her only option.

    Seriously....Daenerys burning the Tarlys is not the same as The Mad King burning Ned’s father & brother. The Tarlys betrayed the Tyrells and went to war against Daenerys and lost. Tywin massacred an entire family, including children for rising up against Lannister rule but he isn’t demonized. In season 1 Ned Stark chopped off a frightened teenager’s head because Ned didn’t believe in the white walkers and no one demonized Ned for that. "Burning a father and son for standing up for themselves and what they believe to be true sounds like a pretty Aeyrs-y thing to do." Didn't Brandon roll up to the Red Keep demanding Aerys send Rhaegar out so he could, y'know, kill him for kidnapping his sister? Not defending Aerys, but Brandon _did_ kind of loudly announce he intended to kill the crown prince, if memory serves. And isn't "standing up for themselves and what they believe to be true" pretty much why everyone gets executed? Robb executed Rickard Karstark for standing up for what he believed was true (that his sons deserved justice), but I guess that's okay? Show!Jon hung a child for standing up for himself, but that's perfectly fine because we as the audience aren't supposed to like that child, who is basically the sole survivor of a horrific genocide. Is it the execution method that makes it worse? Because slow-roasting someone over an open fire while hanging their son _really_ isn't the same thing as instantly immolating someone in flames hot enough to melt steel.

    "Betraying the only form of governance they've ever known" is a stretch. None of the people present had any legal reason to be following Cersei. She had no right to the throne. It's also standard operating procedure for people to be executed, sent the wall, or exiled if they refuse to kneel to the new ruler of the region after a battle. Comparing Dany to Aerys because she executed people for "standing up for themselves" is silly. What do you think feudal lords do to people who rebel? What do you think Jon would have done to the the Manderlys, Hornwoods, Karstarks, etc if they refused to bend the knee to him? Ranyll Tarly executes men who serve his wife's family just because he thinks they might get an order to switch sides after Renly is assassinated in the books. That scene between Tyrion and Varys only make sense if you're adopting the show's stance that some people shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Maybe only executing Randyll and make Dickon a minor lord under, for example a more powerful loyalist house. The power inbalance by killing of the Tarly's is also stupid because they were one of the most powerful March lords who kept the border between Dorne and the Reach in check. Honestly Arya was a great character. This girl facing all types of adversity with the one thing driving her forward being the hope to see her family. Then she finds herself in Braavos and goes to the faceless men, who really TEACH her stuff (in the books) and there she faces more abuse, so that she is forced to limit or even abandon her feelings. The show just made her annoying because she's super strong and indistructable. She goes through NO emotional struggles and instead of being glad to see her family she continues to be annoying af. I liked Arya then they made her into a weird ass killer who never faces any consequences for her actions...

    The expedition beyond the wall to capture a wright actually is the biggest insult to the viewers intelligence in the entire show. It is blatantly obvious, that it was shoe-horned in to give the night-king an excuse to knock down the wall with dragonfire. It is even worse than Arya killing Mr Blue and becoming Columbus, or Bran ... well or Bran...

  • @Aredel

    I don’t know. Undoing the entire core of the show and having a character burn hundreds of thousands of innocents to death for no reason seems like a worse insult. This *could* have made sense if they had a scene or two in which Jon discusses why they needed to preserve every able-bodied soldier they can muster for the Long Night, and if he needed to convince Dany of the threat as well as Cersei. Then you could’ve had them follow the core theme of the book in setting aside their hatred and petty grievances to fight the existential threat together. TLDR: it could have been shaky, but doable with more thought and care.

    @@Aredel If they had 2-3 more seasons to build up the "Targaryen insanity" in Dany, it could have been fine imo. The entire last season was obviously rushed. They wanted to finish it quickly, which destroyed any hope of a good conclusion.

  • @Aredel

    @Aredel

    @@noneofyourbusiness3288 The Targaryen insanity was just an excuse to have her become the villain and murder a bunch of people (civilians being slaughtered is something D&D themselves admitted they don't really give a shit about, thus their comfort with saying she killed them all). A skilled writer could portray her as spiraling into obsession and/or desperation after a series of horrible and traumatic events over a long period of time, and provide a morally ambiguous conclusion in which the audience asks themselves if it was truly just or correct for Jon to kill her. Having characters committing acts as though they are normal human beings, not plot devices that these jagweeds vomited onto our screens.

    @@noneofyourbusiness3288 And I'm saying there shouldn't be an "insane" dany to begin with. She should take a dark turn after a series of brutal setbacks and calamities, leading her to make questionable and evil decisions that cause those around her to consider turning against her. It could be an echo of the Mad King's descent, but as a result of the circumstances.

    You didn't mention how Dany always talks about oaths and how important they are to her. But not one single person (ever!) including her ever mentioned that Jon is an oathbreaker. Yes, the oath for the night's watch only matters until you die. But no one actually knows that Jon died because he doesn't want people to know. So...logically everyone should see him as an oathbreaker. But no one ever mentions it, no one cares anymore. It annoys me.

    Killing the Tarlys was justified they were at war & they just marched on her ally lady Olenna & killed her & took all the food & she still gave them a choice. They also betrayed their leige lord as u said the reach should’ve considered Cersei an enemy when she blew up the sept. Daenerys wasn’t wrong here & I also thought it was stupid she didn’t keep going & take the city when she was right there & Cersei had not army & no defenses on the city she could’ve used Drogon to open the gates & the city would’ve been hers but that would’ve made too much sense 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️
