Great tutorial, Wandering Bull. About 12 years ago I made myself a pair of centre seam moccasins, but I used sinew and a needle to sew mine. I sewed them inside out, then turned them right side out. They looked great, too, after I beaded them. I think we all have different ways of making moccasins, but your way seems easier! I didn't like the look of that big knot on the outside of the toe of your moccasin. Other than that, they looked really nice! I'm part Mi'kmaq, so centre seam mocs are just right! ~Janet in Canada

Great video to learn how to make moccasins for any type of reasons for moccasins most of them could use for a lot of things keep your feet dry or keep your feet from walking on hard things like saw grass and other keep feet warm from cold ground

For my fellow Tsalagi people for the pucker toe you can use this same pattern but you do I believe a cross stitch. Go from the middle from the inside then cross stitch through both sides and pull until you're all the way up. Make sure it fits like a sock ✌️😁

Siyo! True, although the puckered toe might be more comfortable for people who wear orthotics. I did mine this way for that reason, so they stay in place better.

@@blackcitroenlove I also use a thicker hide from hobby lobby, and I don't turn the pucker toe inside out. I still like they way they look when don't turn em inside out. I make em for my wife to but Fringe the cuffs for her.. they still look NDN AF tho 😂

I have a few questions, when he draws the pattern it looks like it should be symmetrical, at least from my perspective. should the cut out be the same on both sides or is it meant to be different? another question I have is about the holes, I assume there should be a same number of holes on each side along with the extra hole in the middle, however when I go to lace up the moccasin, there always seems to be more holes on one side than the other. another problem I have is when I measure the distance from the front of the shoes with my fingers, they always seem to be too short when I finish the moccasins, I didn't know if there was an actual measurement to use or if them being tight is how it is just supposed to be? I think this is an awesome tutorial, there are just a few things that i'm not clear about. Thank you.

Always had trouble with Mocs, made a few pairs but they look terrible. Never occured to me to use my thumb and fingers to mark puckers lmao

How are they walking in crusty hard snow.? Do they tend to be slippery?

I wonder if there's ever been a dude from Massachusetts that had a Swedish father that named his son "Mark Classon".

This looks the easiest so far some people have rabbit ears on the heel I don't know why but this looks like the way iam gonna try iam horrible at needles and threads. I hunt and fish but needle and threads not good lol

Got kit in today the only thing this video does not cover is the last step leather piece above the heel for tightening around your feet. Happy customer thanks.

Would these be correct for Iroquois as well? I know they tended to wear a center seam but didn't know if it was different than these.

When making infant mocs, is the front and the back measured the same with a two finger measurement for the front and one for the back or is there a different way to measure?

Do you need to trace left and right foot? Or is the pattern universal?

Hello Thank you for watching. Yes you can use your finger measurement. You can pull the lace up the front tighter to pull in the spaces.

Eastern woodland natives wore center seam moccasins. This would include the Iroquois nation. Although, the method of creating center seam moccasins was different from tribe to tribe. This is more of a pucker toe center seam.

Hello David, Thanks for watching. Lot of folks will use "sno seal" it is a commercial product you can purchase in several stores. This will turn the leather darker in color.

@@thewanderingbull9843 Thanks for the reply - yep, I've used it on hiking boots before - awesome stuff - kept my feet dry crossing small streams in NH before, just didn't know how the bottom leather on the mocs would deal with the sno seal - lived for a time in Holderness, wish I was still there.

The front knot does not have to be large. Just large enough to hold the leather in.

I've seen these decorated with quillwork down the middle of the seam - would you just stitch the quills on over the pucker ?

Thanks for watching. So folks wear socks and some don't . Some also add in their sole inserts.

This style looks nice. Too bad I only have a bag of scrap leather. So If I want matching shoes I had to make a different style. Well, at least I do now because I already cut pieces out yesterday for a different style. I am just making slippers for indoor, but eventually I want this style of moccasin to work in the garden and wearing outside. Why couldn't youtube have recommended this video to me yesterday.. Oh well.

By measuring directly on the leather to be used. A sharp flake of flint cuts leather very easy and most likely would have been used.
