Mr. East, you’re pre amps are by far the best that I have used. And I have been through a lot of different brands. You get what you pay for. Not to mention your customer service is top notch! All the best! 👍✌️

Hi, John! - Thank for this video, and, thank you for helping me to get this fine preamp to work which, other than misunderstanding where the battery goes, is installed and working "Perfectly!" We installed this preamp into my heavily modified Fender-Squier '77 Jazz Bass and my Girlfriend's Fender Jazz with Fender Super 55 Split-coil pickups and each has been greatly improved by your J-RETRO 01 preamps. I conducted a "Battery Test" by installing a Duracell 9 volt on Valentine's Day, 2019 and used the bass with the J-Style Preamp "EVERY SINGLE DAY" until Thanksgiving Day, 2019 when it spent out. If memory serves, that one battery lasted 272 days of continuous use!! I then replaced the Duracell battery that day with a much less expensive Panasonic 9 volt battery and will share the results as they become available. Thanks again for helping me to understand "Where the Battery Goes! - LOL!" The good news about my mistake is that the electronic harness cavity in my bass can now accommodate two 9 volt batteries which may be used to power your J-RETRO 01 preamp at 18-volts. Happy New Year to You & Yours, - Ernie Leblanc

Greetings from South Korea. I watched this video with a great impression cause I'm deeply interested modifying my Sire V5 bass. I wonder if it's possible to install John East J-Retro Deluxe in my V5. I don't have the original John East knobs/control plate....All I can get is the preamp circuit(We don't have a John East dealer in Korea, so I had to find a second-handed one from a shop). The shop owner said he has a 5-hole jazz bass control plate and can send it together with the preamp. I'm sorry that I only gave you the explanation in written words. Should I have to pay extra money to make a jack pot route? Or Is the circuit enough to cram everything in the hollow inside the control plate? Thank you for all of your useful videos and preamps.

Hi John I just bought a G+L JB and hoping everything fits. I have your kit in a Marcus Miller which truly transformed that instrument into my main bass. Hopeful I as happy with a lower budget bass so I can have a back up to Marcus. Should this pre amp and the one I have now sound similar all else being equal. PS I work with Terry Murphy from your Oxford days. Best Rob

One other question, I have a Schecter Rob DeLeo Model-T with PJ configuration. I would luv to put one of your modded control plates in it. I didn't see one that would fit on your website.

If I want to sound only passive, can I do it without connecting the battery?

You can definitely switch over to passive mode if the battery dies.

Hi Hassan , I emailed you, here is the reply I sent, but see the email which includes the manual. BLEND ====== + The J-Retro design focus was based on an active system with secondary passive mode. + The Blend is active and works only in Active. An active blend is totally smooth with any pickup type BTW. * See attached manual sent with the email. + In Passive you can switch to either the bridge pickup alone, or both. * Some basic passive settings but no blend. * Get-you-out-of-trouble mode if the battery is dead. PULL FOR BRIGHT (Treble Knob) ================ + This is subtle boost, sizzle ~ 7kHz. * Do you have a tweeter in your rig? * What speakers are you using?

We replied by email Hassan at the time you wrote this, but have only recently sent a reply about the bright pull on the treble knob.

So I'm kinda confused I thought you had to have active pickup to have a preamp so am I wrong cause I've got a 5 string fender jazz bass with bartolini pickups in it so will this preamp pare with this ?

Bartolinis should work just fine. They are passive pickups.
