Just as I’ve finished watching your video, 16 showed up on my Instagram feed. Looks like she’s about ready to roll under her own power. Very exciting!

Cab installed! Looks like they might be exercising the running gear checking “things,” so as, to nearly quote the Gen’l Manager’s words, “not break her the first time we run her.” Very exciting!

I grew up in Rock Hill/orby. Spent a lot of nights and days volunteering for the EBT. Miss those nights of firing up number 15 and 14 with my best friend growing up. Lots of great memories. I can still hear those whistles echoing through the mountains. Those sounds will be back soon tho!

Great video, thank you so much! Having lived in Bucks county I did visit the EBT in 1961, and many times in the years that followed. I now live in Washington State, would love to visit the resurrected treasure again. Great job FEBT et al, keep the faith!

Delighted the EBT is still running. We stumbled upon the EBT in 1969. Might have to make another trip out there.

At the end of your video, it was very interesting to learn about the bell on top of the water standpipe being a counterweight. I had always thought that was just a ornamental design feature. I have 2 questions also, #1 with the rebuilding of the coaling dock and laying new I-beams, is it planned in the long term to relay the railroad track back up to it and bring coal by hopper cars to Rockhill once the line is reopened to Robertsdale/Wood? I know there are still 2 operating strip-mining operations in the area and I assume that will be EBT's main source in some fashion. #2 The last thing I had heard about combine #14 was that the set of wooden frame trucks built for it cracked under weight and a new set will have to be built. I don't think FRA regulations would allow this type of car to be run in regular service for safety reasons, so will it just become a "static display piece"? or will it be mounted on steel freight trucks?

Unless things have changed, the plan for 14 is to return it to service. All other questions should be referred to FEBT or EBT Foundation. Oh, and you and I always had the same thoughts on that bell 😎

Was there a reason those flatcars have roofs installed??

EBT uses them for overflow passenger service. There are two boxcars with sides cut down to waist level, as well. One of those has an ADA chair lift installed. Historically, EBT had a number of flatcars with roofs & slatted sides & ends for hauling tanning bark in the late-19th & early-20th centuries, which were pressed into service with crude benches nailed to the floors for “economy seating” to handle massive passenger surges during the annual Civil War veterans picnics at Shade Gap.

We’re publishing videos every 2 weeks for the time being. Three more are scheduled from our visit to the EBT & Rockhill Trolley Museum, with more on various historical sites or camping in general after that. We hope to return to weekly videos in early Spring as our travel plans develop. If your focus is on EBT only, your best bet is, as I’ve said many times, to keep an eye on OFFICIAL EBT and Friends of the EBT inter webs sites.
