I tried it with my seven grape vines this year. I not only have birds, I have rats, raccoons and squirrels that like to eat my grapes and it is halfway through the harvest and I have gotten every grape! I was expecting the animals to try to bite through the bags but even that hasn't happened! This is one amazing trick!

When do you put them on each bunch of grapes? I have squirrels that eat them all up.

Thank you so much for the awesome tip!
How does the organza mesh bag compare with paper bags in how the fruit quality turns out?
I wish you would add a link as to where I can purchase these bags. Thanks for the info!

How do you protect the baby grapes. I have Muscadine.
Is the organza bag the only thing you do to repel birds? When do you apply the bags? Is it 100% effective? And, how many years have you done this? Thanks.
Great idea. I'd like to know what size bags you use and whether the bags can be reuse the next year. Thanks alot!

He mentioned gallon-sided bags. The bags can probably be re-used if polyester.

kbld1 ..FYI a gallon bag is approx 11x 11 inch if you want to make your own.. I would make a drawstring 12 inch bag and use french seams.. keeps them clean and tidy
I also use liquid ant bait stakes and I stick them in the ground near the trunks of the vines.
Which organza bag-model is this one you're using?

Those are colored wine bottle sized organza bags
Thanks, I use them too.😁
Do we need to keep holes for ventilation as plastic bags are air proof

Organza bags are made of a breathable mesh... more of a fabric than a plastic.
Critters ate thru them. Doesn’t keep ants out.
GREAT IDEA - I would think you could actually 1. HARVEST the grapes WITH the bags still ON... and then 2. CRUSH your grapes THROUGH the bags, and get SELF-STRAINING grape juice for wine-making??? Q: WHEN is it TOO SOON to bag my grapes? Right now I've got oodles (hundreds) of bunches with pinhead-sized grapes across about 15 vines... but I SWEAR that THIS it the time I LOSE them all... Q: IF I bag them TOO SOON will it PREVENT any POLLINATING by the local bees? RSVP, -Mark in North Aurora IL
Is this still working for you every year? Are you also doing other things to protect from birds?
where can you find such large organza bag

I.ll pic these grapes like a bird now i know your strategy. Grapes with marshmellow
Seems to have worked for the birds. But unfortunately not for the nighttime critters, who seem to either see it as a nice giftwrap, or just make a mess trying to get at the grapes.
Let’s hope the bird who fed it’s baby with a grape doesn’t know how to Outsmart it
I just typed "Is it ok to feed birds grapes" and this pops up..
Not sure this will protect my grapes from 3 emus?
So, in short, it's organza bag.
I have 500 Frikken bundles, how the hell am I going to cover them all???

You probably would need to build a support enclosed with bird netting.
Don’t try this where you have humidity or summer rain. All you will get is a bag of fungus and mildew

Even though the bag is breathable?
