Thanks for that, super interesting. My unit just arrived in the post :) Two little things to mention. You can also get a set of four shutter blades for the kit which allow you to close down the shape but not in a circle as with the iris (which is also available) The shutters are great for things like bottle labels or if you want to only highlight a very small, specific area and secondly they are great on bowens mount studio strobes for still photography. You can get some super interesting light and shadow for your still shots too. Thank you for the video

If your planning to get the projection unit consider getting a higher wattage light like the Godox SL 150 II -I just got 2 used from Amazon for 200.00 each, like brand new- because the projection unit sucks up a huge amount of light output.

Great! finally, an objective way to find out if the unit will fit my lights - measure them! I've been looking at the unit fora while but I've been unsure if the claim "any Bowens mount" is accurate - I'm off to check now - tape measure in hand. One question though, I notice you are measuring from the base of the metal and not from the top of the interior lip, surely the lip will hit the front of the light 1st so the actual measurement will be 4cm less the height of the interior lip
Very insightful! Thank you very much :)

Very cool light and I was glad to see your comments on it to get a good feel for working with it since I'm considering getting one. You do, however, realize this isn't some new invention from Godox. The ellipsoidal spot has been used in theater for decades and uses the same gobos. So you aren't stuck with Godox gobos. You can even get custom ones cut very easily. The concert lighting industry moved on from metal gobos to glass ones years ago as well.
@FellowFilmmaker

Yes, I do realize that :D It's just something new for Godox and other similar lighting brands of today to start offering for bowens mount lights :D That's all I meant by the remarks

@@FellowFilmmaker As an aside, don't let the lack of gobos get you down. Rick Hutton at InLight Gobos has been making custom gobos for years now and is the best in the business. Omg, I absolutely loved this video! You have been my go to for all of my lighting needs. So far I have purchased two sl60w’s and one VL150 and last night I just purchased this attachment & the 85mm lens with a bunch of gobo’s to find out that the gobo holders are sold out everywhere! I’m sad about the gobo holder, I definitely recommend but gobo’s with the holder included, because out of the three gobo sets I bought, none of them come with the holder! 😞 You’re an awesome creative and I really appreciate your content, thank you!

@@FellowFilmmaker Did you know that there is an iris insert too, plus a four shutter stick inserts too. Also you can make any type of of gobo’s yourself just using tinfoil, apparently there is a lot of D.I.Y stuff you can do with this set too! I’m stoked to get mine in soon! That Godox Sz 150R light is on my next purchase but I’m not sure 🤔, still on the fence on how it compares at 5600k to the Godox VL150 & LUX readings on the different variants of modes too! Can’t wait to watch your video on the new RGB light, I would like to see how the zoom feature on the new light works in conjunction with this light modifier?
@FellowFilmmaker
3 жыл бұрын
yes, so much customizable-ness :D And I hope to have the review out soon! The zoom feature doesn't really work with the projection unit since it can't extend all the way out.
@JonPaulKersey
3 жыл бұрын
@@FellowFilmmaker ah that does make sense about the zoom feature, thanks for the responses!
Just recently purchased this projection kit and yes it does not fit every Bowens mount light out there. You were correct in stating that there is only 4cm (40mm) clearance, but if you remove the Spill ring by removing the 4 black screws easily accessible at the Bowens end, you will gain an additional 8mm of clearance. Had to remove the Spill ring because neither the Godox SZ150R rgb or SL150ii Bi would fit with the Spill ring installed. I had to purchase a 2nd Bowens mount Adapter SA-17, to further modify it to provide a 53mm clearance for the new Amaran 150c rgb light. This modification required disassembling the entire unit, pushing the flange plate back 5mm using brass stand offs and cutting 8mm off the internal snoot at the glass end. So by only removing the spill ring, I can now use it on many more lights and of course by modifying a 2nd one further, it can now be used on a larger list of lights. Due to light to focus distance of the projection unit SA-P, running any light above 75ws doesn't provide more intensity, as this unit was designed for a 30ws light originally. Running 150ws lights at higher then 60% ( 75ws) only makes the light run hotter and it's fan work harder.
@FellowFilmmaker
Жыл бұрын
thanks for taking the time to share!
@colinmclean1300
Жыл бұрын
@@FellowFilmmaker You welcome. Modifying the 2nd unit was very challenging and not for everyone, as these units are riveted together and those needed to be drilled out. I did however replace those with nuts and screws. Cutting the 8mm off the internal snoot end was done using a Dremel. I was anxious tho doing that, but it all worked out! It is nice to now be able to use any light I have with the projector kit and all my lights are different brands and all RGBWW.
Thanks for making this multi piece system easy to understand. I got con fused when looking to purchase it on Amazon.

You can also remove the spill ring inside the adapter and that will help it to fit more lights. I think there are three screws and it comes right out. How are the edges when using the projector mount on the 150 RGB? Is there any convexing when using the cutters or softness on the edges?

So glad I could be a big help to you :D Welcome to the channel! I believe the manufacturer does not recommend going over 300w with these units, because the heat can cause issues. I've used this with 300w lights and it does get hot.
I see you used the SL60, but does it fit the SL100?
Thanks for the video. I'm looking into Godox S30 or the upcoming S60 lights to be able to focus in light on specific areas (with the full kit). Do you feel it can also be used in a similar way to say an Arri 300w fresnel light when not using the focuser?

Thanks so much for this review. Quick question: What size are the gobos? Are they interchangeable with the Roscoe 66mm gobos, for example?
