Easiest weapon in Monster Hunter is too hard for this "PRO".

If Sword and Shield is so easy then why are you so bad at it?

That's why I've stopped watching weapons tier list. Like dude, they're all viable and very usable in single and even online play. You don't have to think about MMO classes. Don't let them degrade you for playing a "tank" or "support" weapon. Enjoy what you want. You can bonk anyone that you actually want, or dash after anyone. The beauty of MonHun's weapons imo.

I've slowly started to try to learn how to play SnS properly. I try to find some way to competently play any given weapon, and ironically, I feel more confident with Charge Blade than I do with Sword and Shield-- and the CB is typically a weapon people purport to be one of the hardest to learn and often saved for last. From what experience I do have, SnS is suited for players who are capable of, and or enjoy, split decision making and reactionary gameplay as opposed to a more methodical, planned, high-risk high reward style play as say, Greatsword or Hammer would dig into. I have a great deal of respect for people who can competently use SnS, because a lot like Hunting Horn, it often gets associated with being "support" when both of those can do darn good damage in the right hands. The ability to use items while your weapon is out does allow you to heal teammates whether via dusts or wide range, but a well placed trap, flash, or screamer pod (Depending on the matchup) can be very useful forms of control. They are especially deadly when combined with monster knowledge when paired with the fringe benefit of shield attacks doing blunt/KO. But alot like dual blades, what SnS seems to really want is to be dancing around the monster and getting any swings it can. It isn't the best shield in the game by any margin, but HAVING one is a security that can definitely matter, once you learn to reverse guard not to compromise positioning as much, which I've done with GS. All this is to say, I see the potential it has, but jumping into it, struggle to really know what to do with it between perfect rushes. Feeling less capable with it has deterred me from using it as often as I probably should, because I feel like with the amount of time I've put in to the game at large, and with how I carry myself with other weapons, I shouldn't be struggling as much with it. Especially with that "oh its a default weapon, it's a beginner weapon, it's easy to use" association that comes with it. I think at large the community's stereotypes of the weapons do as much harm as they do good, and Sword and Shield, as I'm learning, has nuance that you have to dig into to truly shine. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it just like with the nuance of Greatsword, but saying this as someone newer to the weapon, I can see why it's insulting to have a weapon mischaracterized. Greatsword turns a lot of people off for being slow and unyieldy, but especially since World, it's kit has given us a lot more options if we're keen to observe and apply them, that let you get a few more swings out to do damage while repositioning in particular, and so to me, it no longer feels that way. So when I hear someone say "Greatsword is too slow; you don't have options." it frustrates me. I can tell this video is made in a similar sentiment. Rant aside, I hope if nothing else it may help you feel better to know there are definitely still people willing to try the weapon that want to get to know it more, even thousands of hours into world later.

I've almost exclusively mained GS since 3U, and finally picked up the SnS in World and Rise... SnS consistently gets me better hunt times despite the LITERAL DECADE of experience I have over it with GS, especially now with non-elemental builds being the go-to for most weapons. As for the "easiest/comfiest" weapon to use in World specifically, there's obviously no objective answer here, but I'd personally say it's LS. It feels like the least complex and least punishing weapon right now--reputation aside, I'd actually recommend it to beginners over SnS or any other weapon so long as they're aware that they can trip teammates.

I just got wild hearts and tried watching some videos by ragegaming (which I normally wouldn't because I can't stand his yelling but there's so few videos on the game) on some of the weapons to see how they work, and the comments are full of people telling the creator they missed several moves. When these are the people that tell you whether a weapon is for you or not and they don't know how to play it, I feel it can ruin a beginners experience and make them miss out on a playstyle they would've loved. At least until they decide to actually try ot out at some point.

Yeah I used it for a bit for my main file when I started MHW when it launched. Now I made new character and was wondering what weapon I would use I liked to learn something new. SnS was my choice and I boy did I suffer first but after the base game Nergigante fight something clicked in me and I was hooked. Now I try to learn all those small little neat things to make me a better SnS player. I started my journey first with a bow then went to Insect to Gunlance to Lance and now I am SnS user. I would really like to learn greatsword next but I need to hone my SnS more I think :D

If I had to guess where this logic came from I believe this is sort of just carry over knowledge from Rise where the shield bash combo will legitimately beat everything in that game. You could probably really extremely easily beat the entirety of Rise and Sunbreak by just vaguely aiming at the monsters head and pressing the shield bash button. This of course doesn't carry over to other iterations of SnS where the techniques are more important when the most advanced technique in Rise is what the combo is for Reaping Slash finisher out of a Shield Bash combo. I haven't seen the original video, I don't know the guy who made that video I'm just guessing where this logic comes from.

RageGamingVideos content is fun, but that particular comment on the basic attack combo made me cringe back when I first heard it. But even without the input of these channels SnS feels lackluster when you start the game. I just happened to be a SnS main before MHW, so I knew the goodness of infinite attacks, quick dodges and that adorable, but effective little shield. Also nothing feels as good as stunning the monster with a basic shield bash.
