    Excellent video! I’ve been struggling with the decision of hardwiring the nest cam outside, and your video made me realize I can utilize the covered outlets our home came with (or replace with locked ones), instead of drilling through the home, which my wife is not agreeing to as of yet. Thanks so much for the video I needed to hear that! Also, would like to see and know more of how you use the silicone caulk in lieu of drilling another hole

  • @Philitron128

    @Philitron128

    9 ай бұрын

    It's a bit late, but the silicone can be used for some light mounting. In the case of that wire, I would first tape the wire in place with something like duct tape. Once the cable is secured in the correct position, I would quickly clean the area where you will apply the silicone, alcohol is a good option. Then squeeze out a larger bead of silicone (let's say around a teaspoon and no more than a tablespoon) onto the surface where the cable will end up. Press the cable into that bead, and ensure that the cable doesn't try to make its way out, if it does some more tape may be needed or you can just apply some torque to the cable itself to retrain the conductors into a shape which doesn't want to spring away from the surface. Leave the entire set-up to cure for at least 24 hours, preferably 48. After that remove the tape and you should be good to go. Give the cable a light tug to ensure it doesn't just come right off.

    Great video. I’m finding it really hard to buy in to the cloud based cameras though, they have you over a barrel when it comes to the subscription costs and I find it hard to believe they don’t process any of your files, e.g. to count movement of people/vehicles in a particular location and linking it to times etc.

    How far can you rotate the outdoor cam on the base? I need one on the side of my house that looks almost 90⁰, is that angle achievable with the magnetic base?

    The camera service from google is stupid over priced and the software is really problematic. The thermostat is only simple if it likes your systems and you like the way it works. If it works for you on first try, then keep it, but if you have install problems and need parts or help, I strongly suggest getting a quick refund. Every problem you overcome leads to more and then they will update and start your issues all over again. Our electrician gave up after a couple hours of dealing with tech support, and then google had to send a service partner who ended up having three guys look at it. This was for a home that only has a simple furnace and no AC!
