The black screen EAS always used to scare the crap outta me at night. Mainly cause instead of freezing, the TV screen would go off immediately, stay black for about 5 seconds, then display the message. Every time I knew an EAS was coming during the night, I'd rush to the TV, turn it off, turn on the light, then turn the TV back on, which made it less scary to me. One time however for some reason, there were 4 weekly tests on the same channel, when usually, there only should've been one. I got no sleep that night cause I was worried it was gonna come on a fifth time. Jeez.

I'm trying to figure this out - since I'm non-American - does the TV turn on for an EAS alert? Or do you fall asleep with the TV on and afraid of it coming up?

​@@venturer9400 it's the latter. fall asleep and wake up in the dead of the night to that. not sure if it's possible for the system to manually turn on the TV but my GOD if that were the case id be packing out of the country

@@neo3888 I figured out as much, since from what I now know, the EAS is decoded by the broadcaster, not the TV. If it were possible, I would avoid the vicinity of the TV at night like a plague lol. Anyhow, I know some people need it to be on in order to fall asleep, but I would've just turned off the TV for the night in OP's case.

This Child Abduction Emergency occurred on the day of the Nick Jr. airing of a Team Umizoomi episode called Special Delivery (S1:E10). I used to like watching Team Umizoomi when I was a little kid.

One time I was on the floor watching a video, and then my TV changed screens to an Emergency Broadcast System and it started going off and talking and lasted for 2 minutes. I started crying and ran upstairs because I was all alone.

This reminds me of a comment on another video where the user was watching that same movie; Story goes that it cut to a commercial break right after the scene where Coraline was offered the buttons, and a Lalaloopsy ad was the one that started said break. If you ever knew what Lalaloopsy was, then you'd know all too well the creep factor

I remember seeing this. Feb. 12 2010, me and my mom were watching tv and the amber alert was aired through the eas. i remember not thinking it was real, being a three year old at the time

i mute the tv and read the text but if it has no text i turn the tv off and try to google what it was saying all the time its mostly a test because i live in an area with almost no crime rate and almost never is impacted by natrual disasters i have only had a natrual diaster once which was an earthquacke

I'm still scared of EAS, I remember they would come on PBS Kids what felt like everyday during the schedule bumpers, but at the time I didn't understand it but as I got older when sleeping with the tv on, I always covered my ears and make noises to block out the sound, for a while I didn't have to worry about it anymore since we got rid of cable and I started sleeping with Pluto tv or youtube on, I actually remember one time an eas popped up on youtube issuing an emergency for California (I live in oregon) while I was looking at youtube on my tablet and it was something about a nuclear power plant thing, anyway bck what I was saying, occasionally an amber alert would probably pop up on my phone, but since I started listening to the radio again, I've had to deal with weekly tests again, I like sleeping with the radio on so don't tell me to just turn it off at night.

Yeah streaming services is better because there is no amber alerts and I would be scared of emergency alerts sometimes when I was younger

I used to see these all the time and I would scream nonstop until my mom came over and hugged me

I live in Pittsburg and we mostly get tornado warnings which ANNOYINGLY interrupts me watching olympics

I don’t have the EAS alert on TV because it’s off. And the warning is Tornado Warning. And i’m scared,that I heard it in my mom’s phone :(

If anyone wants more information on this, the victim was found at a Convenience store about 8 hours after being abducted. Peter Jyles Pelletier (the kidnapper) was held on a $30,000 Dollar bond and was sentenced in July 2010 to time served (5 months), which imo is fucked up.

If that happened in London England, I will still watch the Emergency Alert System of a Child Abduction

Essentially don’t try to be a hero and confront the suspect, that could risk getting either yourself or the child killed. Instead they want you to call law enforcement if you see the suspect or victim.

This almost happened to me a decade ago. I remember playing on my Xbox 360 and I had a Comcast box next to it and when I was about to turn off the Xbox because I was tired and I wanted to sleep since it was around 1 am, the box all sudden displayed EAS. I was scared, so I decided to turn off the tv first and then the system. I was so glad I dodged the bullet. Lmao

Each county's Comcast broadcaster has a set channel as a primary EAS channel that it sets its cable boxes to tune to if an EAS is activated. In this case, channel 77 (a public access channel for Baltimore) is the primary EAS tuning station, so it would automatically tune to it to broadcast the EAS message.
