Kind of reminds me of a short story I read once when, after humans had engaged in a battle with an interstellar alliance and only barely lost, they had been blockaded on Earth and not allowed to leave. Centuries later, an invading force from outside the Galaxy was going to wipe out the alliance, and in desperation they asked humanity for help. Having agreed to help, as the alliance fleet is leaving the solar system, their chief scanner officer announced that the planet Earth was following the fleet, and..."Sir, they're bringing their MOON with them..."

None. But in the heady glory days of the Centauri Republic, thousands of imperial legal teams, with tens of thousands of amicus briefs, would overwhelmingly submit their cease and desist notices to any infringers on their intellectual property, at the slightest WHIM of the Emperor!

I would never have thought to listen nearly 45 minutes to a Sci-Fi story on YT! But I got hooked early on. Some repetitions could be cut out, but other than that - good work! The imagery could've been a bit more specific to the story, but this might need a cooperation with someone who could concentrate on that part (no, I don't know who this could be, just some musings from "the off" ;-)).

Humans tend to think outside the box tactically. Forge unique alliances, or create something from a blend of various technologies. Technologies one would not normally have thought of on their own. And if Humans who are allied to said alien worlds, were sent in good faith as ambassadors to exchange ideas, those thoughts of ideas or ways of thinking would influence their allies. Possibly for the better. Thus advancing either or both cultures in a great many ways.

Who is to say they did not detect the unknown alien ship? I mean, the story literally states the humans had ships specifically designed for stealth. Whats not to say one of those ships was in fact shadowing the alien ship, just out of sensor range, watching? Monitoring? Doing exactly the same as the Alien ship was doing? I mean, its not like we do not do that to each other even today right? Think of it like a Submarine, say a Soviet Submarine trying to monitor NATO traffic, or a NATO submarine trying to monitor Soviet? You think they were not watching each other? Even though (as far as we know) it never actually led to a shooting war? The same games are going on even now in the post Soviet era. Hell, Allied nations literally practice against each other for exactly this kind of thing. If it does not end up in a shooting war then the best result is the other ship does not even realise you were there, if it ends up in a shooting war, the best result is the enemy ship does not realise you are there until your weapons release at a range envelope and time scale in which they are utterly incapable of reacting in time.... So as I said, who is to say the humans DID NOT, in fact detect said ship, but instead simply watched.... and waited..... EDIT: And also, whats not to say that some of those stealth capable ships were not doing exactly the same in Zentari space? I mean, if the humans are as capable as the reports stated, then given how we are, I would pretty much assume we would actually have ships in their space already in that deep recon role already doing exactly what the Alien ship in the story is doing... Because again, its literally stuff we do at this time to each other! Given the description of the technologies, and that the captain reckons they are about equal, are you honestly going to bet that the Humans do NOT in fact have deep recon ships doing exactly that and the entire reason that alien ship is NOT being engaged is because the humans WANT the aliens to know, we are ready, come on if you think you are hard enough? Deterrence is cheaper than war....

Good story. Kind of reminds me of what Admiral Yamato said post attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve." If anything the Centauri Confederation should keep that quote in mind. The IDC is in a position of defense and any tactician will tell you a fortified position can spell disaster for even a seasoned army. We see examples of that in the Korean War, Vietnam and even Afghanistan. Guerilla warfare tactics or as the Germans called Raatenkreig roughly meaning, "The war of the rats," can have devastating effects on even the most well equipped arsenal. Lyra's actions actual might have potentially saved the Centauri Confederation from a demoralizing and devastating defeat. NEVER under estimate an enemy that's backed into a corner.

The really sad part is, this beautiful story can and will never be true... As of 2024, we have enough evidence to know that intelligence will not evolve at a snail pace for ever😢 And everything our intelligence level can comprehend, is based on the premise that intelligence is more or less at the same level all over the universe. And not only the level is not the same but also the speed at which the level of intelligence increase, is not the same. Natural selection and evolution is not the last word in intelligence development. How sad 😢

We do have the oddity of the 900yr period where inventiveness and intellectual development effectively just didn’t happen. I’d also like to throw in we have a severe lack of emotional growth as a species, the same patterns that were taking place centuries ago are being played out, just with different people, weapons and types of warfare, methods of resistance, and of course methods of pacifity. Maybe we will get the chance to evolve, but I fear it may take more world breaking events before that happens.
