Maybe you had to be there, I don't know, but no discussion of 90's hardcore is complete without this EP. Firestorm didn't just open doors for this band, but was the bridge necessary to bring plenty of OG hardcore and youth crew kids into the wider world of metal. A profound recording, both in lyric and in sound. Firestorm is, simply put, a triumph of 90's HC.

They mean metal with breakdowns and chugs The other band that I think is very responsible for metal core is Pantera even tho they don’t get a lot of credit for it. But songs like fucking hostile and walk and just Phil In general helped fuse metal and hardcore in a new unique way. Imagine domination without Phil’s vocals. And instead James hetfield. Lol.

No End In Sight fanzine: "Musically, Destroy the Machines has had a major impact on the hardcore and metal scenes. Did you realize the influence that record would have on countless bands?" Scott Crouse: "We get credited often for creating "metalcore," but I’m not sure that’s fair. We were not very influenced by hardcore at all. We were drawing influence from bands like Corrosion of Conformity’s Blind album, [as well as] Believer, Carcass and Slayer. The most hardcore influence around us at that time was the band Conviction, and they were very outside the realm of hardcore themselves. It was really just us injecting those more metal elements into a scene that wasn't very familiar with them, so I think it seemed like we created something. I guess other bands liked what they heard and tried their version. There were a few bands doing that already though; Overcast from Boston was extremely metal influenced hardcore. Zero Tolerance from Buffalo was also a huge influence on us at the time." Source

A firestorm to purify the bane that society drowns in. No mercy, no exceptions, a declaration of total war. The innocents' defense is the reason it's waged for. Born addicted, beaten and neglected. Families torn apart, destroyed and abandoned. Children sell their bodies, from their high they fall to drown. Demons crazed by greed cut bystanders down. A chemically tainted welfare generation. Absolute complete moral degeneration. Born addicted, beaten and neglected. Families torn apart, destroyed and abandoned. Children sell their bodies, from their high they fall to drown. Demons crazed by greed cut bystanders down. Corrupt politicians, corrupt enforcement, drug lords and dealers; all must fall. The helpless are crying out. We have risen to their call. When I was 17 I got into a i fight. Jhit I was fighting got one hit in. Broke my nose. (Still broken to this day. Makes an excellent story when people ask about it) but yeah he got that one hit in and that was It for him. Over. I beat his ass so hard my friend who was filming was walking towards us because he actually felt the need to pull me off of the poor suka. A week later just to taunt him I made an edit of the fight Video with firestorm playing over it. That track will always and forever remind me of that fight. For better or for worse. LAMOOO idiot punk rock teenage memories amiright???

Trying to explore more of the NYHC style, meh, some is good but the whole ethics thing come across as a mix of delusional, moral narcissism and covert fascism to me. The original vegan-sxe concept wasn't that bad, but reading this stuff makes me think of someone with more serious problems than those addressed in the lyrics. Music-wise i hear nothing special here, they mixed hardcore and metal 10 years before this, and then it got too metallic imho. I loved Gorilla Biscuits' first LP though and i remember listening to Freya's debut quite a lot, found that project more laid back, got to try some other bands.
