Early Spring Weather Laying System // Skwala RS, Fusion, Thermo, Review

Спорт

Find your system. It doesn't have to be Skwala gear, but use this outline to build a system that offers warmth mixed with mobility and BREATHABILITY. If you are layered up and your skin can't breathe, you'll be damp and eventually become cold and grouchy.
I'll make some small adjustments, like wearing tight fitting (Under Armour type) base layers on top and bottom in place of my standard T-shirt and undies. Gloves come into play at about 35 degrees for me, but unless its breezy I usually just use my thumb-holes on my sleeves, and warm my hands once in a while. Gloves are a totally different conversation haha.
My Layering System (35 degrees - 50 degrees):
1. Simms OTC Thermal Socks (over the calf socks) redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
2. Skwala Thermo Merino Wool Pants redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
3. Skwala Thermo 350 Hoodie redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
4. Skwala Fusion 3/2 Puffy redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
5. Skwala RS Waders redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
6. Skwala RS Jacket redsflyfishing.com/products/s...
7. Korker's Devil's Canyon Boots Size 11 (same as during the summer, toe box has plenty of room for circulation)

Looks like Skwala is starting to take over Simms as the go to gear. Great review. 👍

Oh they are both great. Skwala produces far less SKU's in comparison to Simms so it's hardly an apples to apples. Skwala is exclusively waders and tech gear. No T-shirts and rod cases.

Great video from a great fly shop. Very knowledgeable staff with outstanding service. There are many fine fly shops but this shop is notch above. These guys are awesome if the rare unforeseen issue arises. I live in Chicago and I bought 4 top line Sage rods and reels here.

I would enjoy hearing what to in the summer and also in warm Florida weather.

That's a great idea, I've been wearing the Skwala Sol Wading Pants and the Skwala Tropical Hoody. It's a bit spendy, but unbelievably light and durable.

I would recommend jeans under neoprenes, a white skull cap, and a marlboro light in the mouth. This seems to be what most anglers wear during salmon season. It helps to have a folding chair and cheap cooler full of Keystone Light. The keystone and cigarettes can be fired right onto the bank at your feet.

hahahah. Those guys seem to stay warm enough. Couple of Monsters for breakfast, coffee is for yuppies.

I'm 175 5'9" and I wear the Medium. Kind of a "tweener" but am more comfortable in the M. I ordered a L originally and swapped it.

Note: though reviewed first, waders are donned next to last , before rain jacket. GLOVES Bruv ! HOW DO I KEEP MY HANDS WARM ???

Totally get your comment here. We get a lot of questions about "I get cold, I think I'm going to get a heavier set of waders". It may sound silly to a seasoned angler, but it's common. Thicker waterproof breathable, doesn't translate to insulation. It's just more likely not to suffer leaks. Gloves to me aren't as important, if I wear that wool hoody, puffy, rainjacket, and use the thumbholes on my wool hoody my hands stay surprisingly warm. I'll do a "pro's and con's" of the various types of gloves later this fall when temps drop another 10 degrees.

@@redsflyshopjust returned from Northern BC . Ice in the rod guides, Ice on the rocks . Cold mornings . Daytime Highs were about 38 degrees F . Everything was manageable with quality gear : Skwala mid layers , Grundens waders , Smartwool base layers, Arcteryx primaloft jacket, boiled wool beanie ,et al . All good: Except Gloves ; and I hate gloves when fishing and I’d avoid them if it was at all possible . Not in those conditions . An Angler from the UK got frostbite and one of the guides had chilblains on his feet . In those temps, No glove you can get wet really works after 10 minutes of stripping and coiling wet shooting line, or after the first dunking to release a fish . A glove you have to keep dry doesn’t make sense at all unless you’re just going to drive the boat . My best hand warmth combo was adhesive chemical foot warmers inside nitrile gloves with the Patagonia Homepool Mitt Gloves over the outside of the nitrile .

Joe, what do you wear next to skin under the Skwala Thermo Hoody? I have that hoody, but feel like I need a very light layer next to skin?
