Early Spring Bushcraft - Primitive Camp Table - Stuffed Bannock Campfire Cooking
Ойын-сауық
It is a great day to get out, right after a storm of heavy rain. The ground is squishy and most of the firewood is damp, but the sky is blue and many of the birds have made their return. I love the woods in spring.
Food always smells and tastes better out here. I have been wanting to try stuffed bannock on the campfire, and it was tasty.
Thanks for watching friends. Feel welcome to share, comment and subscribe. I will be back with more. Until next time, this is over-and-out from west fork!

Blessings my friends. Be well.

Howdy Chuck. Yeah, the older I get, the more work it is. But it's still worth it. It's surprising how much the woods has to offer, if you look around. Especially when it comes to soothing a troubled heart. I just love the woods. I hope you are doing good, my friend. I'll have to pay you a visit!

Find a job you love doing and you'll never have too work a day in your life! Nothing I'd rather be doing
Love the leather glove finger repurposing! Great idea.
That sure is a nice little spot to make camp. The little table came out just right! Glad Tig way there to watch your back. Something sure had her full attention for a few minutes. Well I sure enjoyed this one today and I appreciate you sharing these videos with us. Have a great afternoon my friend and God bless.

Howdy Shane! Tig can smell a bear a mile away, which is nice. Lots of coyote in that area, too. Hope you are doing well, my friend. Blessings to you. 🪓

Spring is gradually waking up the woods. So much change since my last video, now with the robins back. Even the chickadees offered us a song. Glad you enjoyed the trip, Pinepuppy. We'll see you back on the trail soon!
Thanks for sharing your day at camp with us all, a perfect ending after spending a few hours in the forest myself today…..Looking forward to the next outing in the woods with you and your lovely pooch……Ron, from Indiana……😊

I enjoyed your video. You are very generous and kind to your dog, and that's commendable. Your dog definitely got the king's portion of your meal, compared to your sizes. LOL.

Hahaha! Yeah, I have a soft spot for Tig. Probably the sweetest and gentlest dog we've ever had. It was a big ol' chunk of bannock, so there was plenty to go around! Glad you liked the video. Come again any time & we'll be here!
Another Great Video Kevin. That's a really awesome idea with putting a Baker style tent next to a downed log. I've often thought of how to shelter by a big down tree or log and your setup that you did looks fantastic. Thank you for sharing this and looking forward to more!!

Thanks, Dave. Yes, the log was really nice. Plenty of room for two people to sit out of the weather. For sure, give it a try!

Thanks for another great camp. The Baker tent setup with the log in the front looked great. The fire pit was fantastic . Your video skills aren't too shabby, either. I think you forgot the kibble on purpose just to spoil that deserving pup.

Came over from huntwa forum a few weeks ago. Looks like your on the dry side of the mountains, so to say. Been enjoying your videos. I do the same with my dog except i use a small camp stove, so i can keep my spots private. I do however miss my campfires and cooking out their, but i can do that at the house. Though thats getting harder to do with the society wanting to get into the outdoor activities and do what we love to do. Sadly a lot of them just trash the woods and habitate while their out here. I always carry a trash bag to collect some of it. I dont know about you but ive lost a lot of my spots the last few years due to e biking and other hunters being pushed out of their spots and onto mine. Well take care and be safe.

Howdy Longtrailside. Yes, I know what you mean. Wild places are filling up, and some folks are lloving it to death. You are wise to keep your spots private, if you can. I'm glad to hear you carry a trash bag with you. You may not be able to pick up all the trash, but you are making a difference - and that's a praiseworthy endeavor. Happy trails, my friend. Thank you for your support!
Great video, friend. Thank you, I enjoyed the time spent in the woods. I don't know if you have any control over it or not, but how about adding cc's for us old guys. Thanks again.

Another great video! Table camp, Skull Camp, Long Log camp are all great looking campsites. That landscape is very appealing to me. I can't wait to get back to it. I picked up a Scotch Eye Auger this winter but have yet to use it. Your table turned out great and the three legged design shows experience in woodcraft. Was that an Old Hickory? Did you make the sheath? That looked like a Western scout/camp knife too. Does it have the flat awl? Your culinary skills are impressive too. You're inspiring me to up my game. This was terrific on so many levels. Already looking forward to Tig's next big adventure.

Well the roads will be clear soon, and I expect you'll have some trail cam vids to pick through soon. I look forward to seeing what you will create with that fancy drill bit. Lots of possibilities! My belt knife is a Goodell butcher knife. Thrift store score for just a few bucks. I later found a sheath that fits like a glove. Good carbon steel, great for camp cooking. The camp/utility knife is a Boker 9361 I found in an antique store. You guessed it, carbon steel. Just four blades, which includes a can opener and bottle opener/slotted screw driver. See you on the trail my friend. Thanks for stopping in!

That knife you are using to cut up your meal looks like one my mother use to have like 50 years ago. My Dad made it from a file.

You got to love good old carbon steel. My knife is an old Goodell butcher knife. I bought a custom Old Hickory sheath for it, which fits perfectly. They quit making Goodells in 1983, after Chicago Cutlery bought them out. It sure sharpens up nice. I got it cheap at a thrift store. Thanks for watching!

Close, Chuck. It's an old butcher knife I found a sheath for. Had a spot for a mini ferro rod, too. Big enough to skin a wild boar, or just cut an apple in camp. It's brand is Goodell - a thrift store find for $3.50. They want more than that now. Good old carbon steel is hard to beat. I have an Old Hickory I'll bring on the next vid. Darned good knives for those on a budget!
What size is your auger?

How do you deal with ticks?
@WestForkWoodsman
2 ай бұрын
We have a lot of deer ticks here, but for some reason they don't prefer me. In the bad years, we do "tick checks" after returning from the woods. My wife and dog get a few, but I've only had one or two on my clothing. Maybe they just don't like me. Thanks for watching. Come again any time!
