I swear....I almost had a hint of 2 or 3 scents.... of the antique cars' fumes...The Cave...and others run through my head as I watched this - from the impressions that I first had around 1960!!

maybe 1962, Chaparral Antique Cars have been added, but the Southern Palace is still just an amphitheater- even the shade structure has not been added yet...

I was fortunate enough to get to ride these before they took them out. Saved a very long walk to get to the other side of the park.

The Six Flags in Georgia still has those. Can't figure out why the flagship park chose to do away with them. It gave the place some character.

@@augustusbetucius1572 A man was killed riding one at the State Fair of Texas and not too long after that, the ones at the SFOT were removed. I don't know if the Georgia park was owned by the Arlington park back then.

Wow - look at "Mom's" expression at 3:19! That gondola is coming into the station at full speed and it looks like it is nano-seconds from smashing into the gondola holding the cameraperson. It cuts quickly to a host in a uniform looking calm, and nonchalant. I used to work at the skybuckets at SFOG. Buckets often came close together when we were running all 28 at the same time, I get the feeling the crew was pushed aside so the camera crew could get their shot. I have a feeling those buckets crashed together. What do y'all think?

Ahhh Astrolift. My favorite ride. I worked both sides there in the late 70's. Funny, the video shows them coming into Texas station at around 3:12 and then it cuts to coming into modern. Texas side was always a rough ride into the station and you had to wrestle the cars to a stop on that short runway. Maybe "Mom" did get a bit tossed around and they took out that footage. haha. Great video. I can smell the park and hear the bullwheel and the zip of the cables.

It's amazing to me today to see how much of the native land was still present at Six Flags back then. There's almost nothing about the place left that conveys its natural location among North Texas scrub. It's all artificial now.

Even as late as the 80's it still had some of that intact. It's largely all gone now. It's getting depressing going there, it has lost almost all of its character. They're stripping out the last of any of the rides from the 60's and 70's as of 2019. There are just a few left, and those will likely be gone in the next few years.

I don't think any of those rides were ever intended to be permanent. Heck, the park was only first built to last about 3 years to build up funds for the surrounding industrial district.

@@augustusbetucius1572 the only ride from opening left is the train, but it's likely to remain for the long haul as a refurb is going underway

Does not even resemble a 'home movie'. More likely some sort of promo or entertainment for the company.
