Early Reader Bookshelf Tour and My Favorite Early Readers

As a homeschool parent, teaching my children to read is one of my most important goals. Beyond just learning to read, I hope to foster a love of reading. In this video, I share the early reader books on my bookshelves and give you a closer look at some favorites.

I appreciated your comment about how it can be helpful to have early readers that tie into specific interests of your children (even if those readers are not necessarily the BEST as far as phonics goes).

We love Now I'm Reading! They are pricey, but they are on kindle for. 99c/ten book set. We don't typically e-read, so it was a fun novelty activity on the tablet when we had to wait somewhere.

My son enjoys the phonic readers amd elephant and piggy. My son gets discouraged easily when reading so it can definitely be hard to find things that keep them engaged. So many level one books aren't really level one and that is discouraging for him as well. It is discouraging for me too because he is 7 and while he reads decent I feel he is behind. Looking into the leveled readers from usborne.

It can be so hard to work through this part of reading. My son will be 8 in March and is there as well. Sometimes I also worry that he is behind, but the beauty of homeschooling is we have more time to go at his pace. We are also currently trying a reading challenge where he gets a treat when he gets to 100 books read, and that is helping with his motivation. My daughter also went through a period when she hated reading because it was difficult, but now she is 10 and a voracious reader. I hope you find something that motivates both of you and helps him get more comfortable reading!
