hi john i have a few Mosins, i got my m44 in an odd way, my brother-in-law was a marine in the early 1980s, he was in the invasion of Granada he captured a Cuben solder and took his m44 as a trophy of war, and had the paper work for it, he had it for about 15 years, my wife took him to a gun shop with out telling me, 2 weeks later with big smile she told me, i told her get in the car we are going to get it back, we got there at 8.50 pm i knew the owner and asked if he still had it, i told him it had a trophy of war certificate with it, he did find it, i bought it back for 100.00, this 1946 m44 was given to the Cubans in the 1950s by the Russians before the bay of pigs, this rifle has a history. John thank you for your videos.

That extra cut I believe is a “Balkan Cut”. The Big Sam channel has a really good video on it.

I thought about that, but the Balkan rifles usually have some other markings too that mine is missing. Spanish Civil War is a possibility

Really interesting and informative stuff. I’ve actually often wondered how an earlier example would compare side by side to a relatively late one... I’ve only ever owned Soviet-era Mosins, but there’s a 1916 dated Russian one that’s been sitting at a local shop for a while that’s kinda tempting. Also that’s a really clean M44.

I’m really happy with both of these rifles. I’m going to take them out soon along with a friend’s 91/30 to hopefully do another comparison.

Nice video! I’m blessed to actually have a 91/59. Shoots good up to roughly 150 yards.

@@8mmmauserman yeah pretty much. At one point it is believed to have been a 91/30 but new evidence suggests Bulgaria did the modification. Iraqveteran8888 has an excellent video on them.

Hello. If the rifle is new, it may need some time to break in. It is also possible that your magazine feed lips need to be adjusted. I have a video on that here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJdsuseglNnQmso.html

The extractor maybe a problem. Mine had too much tension, which caused the bolt to be very difficult to pull rearward to eject the round.
